Lobster Boat Residence, low costs and environmental friendly materials Posted: 19 May 2013 09:43 PM PDT Portage Bay, Seattle, is famous for its dense urban shoreline site and their population issues. That is what Chadbourne + Doss Architects had to deal with when they refurbishing this waterfront property into a 2380 square foot condominium. At a place where the community bond means everything, a condominium with 4 detached residences and 2 houseboats that share a waterfront access, parking utilities and a vegetable garden sounds a lot more rational. To preserve the Lobster Boat Residence's economical value, the designer had to choose low costs and environmental friendly materials to be combined with the existing original boat structure leaving no unnecessary wasted space.

Small Cube Guesthouse by Aleks Istanbullu Posted: 19 May 2013 09:43 AM PDT This House is designed by Aleks Istanbullu Architects. This small cube guesthouse is nature-inspired retreat nestled in a canyon of trees overlooking Coldwater Canyon. It's the place apart from the main house where owners could listen to music or to read a book. Even though it was planned as one room house it soon get a back structure with bedroom, bath and small kitchen. Exterior is clad in colored fiber cement green panels and make the biggest statement, with both a playful street presence and a respect for nature. Four granite stepping stones in a pond lead to the a solid wengé-stained door in the center of a clear glass wall. Wenge closet doors and bright resin panels continue the exterior's color theme into the interior. Besides the bedroom and the kitchen with a pantry, the house feature double-height library with 16-foot-tall bookshelves.
