Beautiful Spherical Pendant Made of Veneer

Posted: 08 Sep 2012 09:59 AM PDT

I only once witnessed the fireflies flying in the forest one summer night and I simply loved the show. They seem to be small light bulbs dancing in the bushes and you can now see them and then they are gone again. This is the exact feeling you have when you see the light of this Beautiful Spherical Pendant made of Veneer. Actually its name is Austen pendant and it is indeed made of veneer. The pendant looks like a big ball made of veneer strips that come together in a delicate and amazing design. The light comes from inside this ball and looks like magic.

It is pretty big, having 19″ diameter and has a natural finish. The veneer strips are not long enough to circle the entire lamp shade like a yarn, but all the small veneer pieces are held together with some small and slick metallic pins that are almost invisible, so they do their job pretty well. Since the light coming from the light bulb inside the veneer shade has to cross all the veneer, it seems to be filtered with a magical filter, so it is spread around in a playful dance of lights. The visual effect is great and the atmosphere is intimate and magical. You can buy the item for $99 from PBTeen.

Bocca Sofa

Posted: 08 Sep 2012 05:55 AM PDT

Women have always fascinated men and they even say Freud died with the regret that he did not understand women completely. Any way, these gentle creatures, women, have been sources of inspiration, muses, for all artists who created wonderful works of art only by thinking of them. This gorgeous Bocca Sofa is one of these works. It is breathtaking and loud, conspicuous and modern, all in one. It is incredible as design, as it looks just like the lips of a hot woman, as the name suggests, since “bocca” is Italian for mouth. This sofa was created by Salvador Dali who took Mae West’s mouth as model. The blonde actress fascinated the artist and the result was this and a dozen other works of art with different stylized body parts.

Well, apaprently the version of the sofa that we can admire here in the pictures is not the original designed in 1930, but another version made in 1972 by Studio 65 for Gufram Italy as an homage paid to Dali, taking the lips of Marylin Monroe as model. But it does not matter whose lips are these, as long as this sofa in an incredibly charming home accessory. Actually it is a lot more appropriate in hotel lounges or maybe modern museums or other similar places. Here is one of the latest models, Heller Studio 65 Bocca Sofa that you can buy for $1,100.

Vintage Danish Teak Coffee Table

Posted: 08 Sep 2012 05:15 AM PDT

Today most coffee tables are round and made of glass or maybe some metal on the table top and metal legs. But there hasn’t always been like that and i certainly do not like having the same thing as everybody else. So I like spending some time in the vintage shops where I can find really beautiful pieces of furniture with a special design and look that make your living room unique and fine looking. This Vintage Danish Teak Coffee Table belongs to the old school of furniture manufacturing, but it still keeps its charm and beauty.

It is rectangular and a bit bigger than today’s coffee tables, but this turns out to be really useful for a big family or for somebody with lots of friends to have coffee with. It is made of teak and the natural colour of this wood is perfectly preserved and you can admire it in the photos. The four thin legs are sturdy enough to support the table and everything on it and they are elegant, too. The table has some particular features that make it so special and I would like to mention the raised lip edges of the table top and also the interesting suspended cane shelf underneath the table top. The table is specific to the middle of the last century and is worth $960.

Stylish upgrade of a Sydney commercial building by Smart Design Studio

Posted: 08 Sep 2012 01:33 AM PDT

Located in Sydney, Australia, the Metcalfe Bond Store building has been occupied by Saatchi & Saatchi for 25 years. In 2011, the company decided it was time for an upgrade of the building and went to Smart Design Studio for help. The project included the refurbishment of the commercial space and the goal was to re-establish their leading position in the domain of advertising in Australia and also to create a refreshing and pleasant environment for both employees and clients.

The designers started by identifying a series of key areas that would have a bigger impact on the agency and its efficiency. For those spaces, they chose bold, dynamic and striking interior decors with a strong contemporary feel. Among the changes that occurred during the upgrading process, the most important would be the reorganization of the working spaces and the re-planning of these areas. For example, the previous cellular office design was replaced with open plan office structures with access to outdoor areas and with beautiful views.

Most of these changes were meant to create a sense of cooperation and to invite to socialization and interaction. While changing the interior design, some technological improvements have been made as well. They include improved air circulation, state-of-the-art lighting, service areas and upgraded utilities. The new design was not meant to break all ties with the past but rather to revalorize the original structure and to improve its functionality. The existing brickwork was left unpainted for a more natural feel, all the timber and metal structures were painted white and all the new materials that were introduced in the design were black.{found on archdaily}.

Selectional Recliner sofa by Giorgio Soressi

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 11:50 PM PDT

Everybody seeks comfort in every little aspect of his life because this is our natural instinct to make things easier for us and to live a happy life.Probably the most important part from this philosophy is represented by the things that can really make a difference and that difference can be very easily felt. Beds, chairs, sofas, all are things that make our life better and more comfortable while resting and recharging our batteries for another day.

This post is all about comfortable sofas that look wonderful in any interior and we will refer to a certain sofa and a certain degree of comfort, looks and of course value, not price.Designed by Giorgio Soressi this Sectional Recliner Sofa puts a smile of your face every time you look at it, feel it and lay down on it. Before rushing into conclusions let’s get a little bit into the technical details because excepting the looks, this is the best part.

So, how would you like to sit in a piece of furniture that has a strong metal structure with a springing system based on elastic belts padded with non-deformable polyurethane foam. Seats made of natural goose feathers with inserts of the same non-deformable foam, material that was also used to build the back embedded in a reclinable mechanism. The arm is made of a material called piumafill, containing 70 % natural goose feather and 30% polyester fiber; all that sitting on a pare of satin matt chromed steel legs? Perfect, I imagine!

A half home half office structure in Spain by Marià Castelló Martínez

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 11:09 PM PDT

This contemporary structure is located in Formentera, Spain. It occupies a surface of 201 square meters and it's a combination between a home and an office. It was a project by Marià Castelló Martínez in collaboration with building engineers Agustí Yern Ribas + Albert Yern Ribas along with Marga Ferrer, Laura Tur, Carmen Martínez, Josep Castelló, Catalina Verdera, Jaume Luís, Segundo García, Pep Yern & Belén Molina.

The duration of the project was of 7 years. It started in 2004 and was completed in 2011. The team was asked to design a space that would house both an office and a residence. It was an unusual request but also a very interesting one. As for the style, the goal was to create a contemporary space and to rely on simple and pure materials and details. The site played a very important role in the design. It dictated the orientation of the building and allowed it to gain character. The building has a geometrical, clean shape and a rather austere look.

The two functions of the building, office and residence, have been divided symmetrically. On the north side there's a small architecture studio while on the south side there is a space of identical dimensions that serves as a private home. It's easy to see this distinction from the exterior as well. The interior decors of both volumes are bright, simple and modern. They each have been decorated according to their functionality.
