Minimalist concrete shelf

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Floating shelves are an element typical to contemporary designs and interior. They have that detail that allows them to impress but they also manage to maintain a very simple and minimalist look. This particular shelf is even more surprising. It's a concrete shelf. Concrete is not a material very popular in this particular area of design. Floating shelves are usually made of wood, metal or glass. But it's always interesting to see new variations of the same concept.

The shelf has a subtle industrial feel. The concrete makes it seem a little cold and this detail can be exploited in the interior décor. For example, you can place the shelf above a fireplace where its coldness will be balanced by the warmth emanated by the fireplace itself. Also, the shelf can be placed anywhere else in the living room. It would make an interesting addition in an office where it would complement nicely the sobriety of the décor.

The color of the shelf is a soothing natural shade of grey and this makes it versatile and easy to match with other colors and textures. The shelf has a design that was hand-formed, finished and polished and this makes each piece unique. It's minimalist and chic. Its overall dimensions are 48″long x 6.5″ deep x 3″ high. It's easy to install and it includes a 4-point integrated key-hole hanging system that makes everything even easier.Available for $370.

A modern residential apartment in a former church

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 03:27 AM PDT

It might seem odd for some people that certain persons enjoy living in a church. It has nothing to do with their beliefs and has no religious significance. It is a choice based on the architectural beauty of the building and the uniqueness of the internal structure and organization of the spaces. This old Westbourne Grove Church is located in London. At one point it was no longer used for its intended purpose. It was then that its current owners realized what great potential the church had.

They decided to transform it into their new residential space. The old church was turned into a lovely home and it is now a truly unique place. It was a project developed by DOSarchtiects. Given the circumstances, the architects preserved the exterior of the church intact. It would have been all in vain if nothing from the original design was incorporated into the new look.

The architectural beauty of the church and the location were the main reasons why the clients decided to transform it into their home. The top two floors of the church had the perfect layout for becoming the living space. The residence occupied a total area of 400 square meters. The rest of the rooms are spread throughout the structure. The interior décor is very modern, simple and chic. There aren't any elements that would suggests that this is a church, except maybe for some of the windows, especially those from the bathroom.

8 Unique Tips For Cleaning Your Bathroom

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 02:45 AM PDT

Just like the kitchen, the bathrooms are one of the most important places in the home to keep clean. Like we’ve said before, cleaning house is something we all have to endure so why not bring in a little fun and pizazz to the most daunting tasks? Instead of the same ole Lysol wipes and powdered Comet, we’ve rounded up some fun, unique and inexpensive ways to keep the powder room in tip-top shape. Check them out, try them and let us know how they worked for you!

1. Need a whiter than white toilet?

For the bleach, instead try a cup of vinegar and a spoonful of baking soda. Dump both into the toilet and let it “simmer” for about 30 minutes. Then scrub! You don’t need toilet bowl cleaners or bleach … all you need to do is stop in the kitchen for a quick, commode pick me up!

2. Need to clean the corners of the shower and tub?

All you need to do is add vinegar! Spray the built of mildew with vinegar and let it dry, then wipe it off. It’s that simple!

3. Need to clear up the ceiling?

Lots of times we don’t even realize the ceiling needs to be cleaned and that’s especially true in the bathroom where mildew and mold may dwell. Grab a mop bucket, fill it with half water and half vinegar, then go to down killing those dirty spots.

4. Need to clean up your counter tops?

Use this simple mixture to combat mildew and soap scum around the sink and counter top. Mix two cups of baking soda, 1/2 cup all-natural dish soap, 1 cup water, and 1/2 cup vinegar, then wipe away!

5. Need to clear up a stained toilet rim?

All you need is a little borax and lemon! Make a paste with a bit of lemon juice and borax, then scrub to remove the stains! You also get the lemony fresh scent for free!

6. Need to freshen up the bathroom mat?

You don’t need to wash your floor mat everyday after you’ve hopped out the shower. Instead, hang it up to dry after its dampened. Then sprinkle on some baking soda, clean the rest of the bathroom, then vacuum up the powder. Nothing is worse than stepping out onto a stinky, damp towel after your warm, cleaning shower or bath!

7. Need to rid yourself of rust?

Take an old toothpaste, squeeze on some toothpaste and brush those rust stains away. Yes, it works!

8. Need to clean the mirror?

No more Windex! All you need to do is grab some shaving cream and wipe off the mirror! It’ll be fresh and sparkly-clear in no time!

Elegant and Colourful Lounge Chair

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 02:09 AM PDT

The lotus flower comes from Asia and is famous for its beauty and also fragility, for the petal that gather to form and beautiful shape. No wonder this flower has always been a source of inspiration for many artists, furniture designers included. This Elegant and Colourful Lounge Chair is obviously inspired by this flower since its name is Lotus Lounge Chair. It is manufactured by Bensen and look amazing. The chair is modern and cool and also has a small size, which makes it perfect for lounges in both your home and your office. And since we all spend a lot of time sitting in chairs during long office meetings, it wouldn’t hurt to have a very comfortable chair like this one.

The Lotus chair reminds you of the flower with the same name when you see the arm rests that seem to be the flower petals. despite the small size, the chair offers plenty of room and comfort and the strong frame is sturdy enough to support your body weight. The molded frame body comes on top of a strong steel frame and the elastic webbing allows the chair to return to its initial shape and posture once you change your body position or leave the chair. There is also vertical spring suspension that is just further improvement of the chair quality. The chair can be purchased directly from the manufacturer.

Stylish and inviting apartment in Moscow by Kirill Isomin

Posted: 06 Sep 2012 10:50 PM PDT

This apartment is located in Moscow. The décor is quite suggestive. There are numerous elements that allow us to place in that particular region of the globe. But there are also plenty of details that make it unique. The apartment was a project by Kirill Isomin. The main goal was to create a pleasant, cheerful and inviting home for a family with two children.

The apartment was organized in a way that allows it to take advantage of the sun and the orientation of the windows. The rooms are filled with light and, when this wasn't possible, the designer used the lack of abundant light in his favor. Beautiful contrasts were created. Some rooms are light and serene while others have a more dramatic look. There's a very interesting balance between these two directions. The color palette is very interesting.

The apartment features a multitude of colors. Most of them are fresh and dynamic. It's very interesting how these colors were combined and the way they complement each other. Strong tones are combined with neutrals such as white or beige. There are many accent pieces in each room and they don't always follow the same theme. It's also very interesting the way several very strong colors get to work together and to form a balanced mix. I particularly enjoy the green and purple combination but there are many others that are eye-catching.

The Classic Venice Paisley Erin Chair

Posted: 06 Sep 2012 10:06 PM PDT

The Venice Paisley Erin Chair is a very charming and distinguished piece of furniture, a World Market exclusive. It has a design defined by mixed features. The chair is a classic and it has details that also integrate it in the mid-century style as well as elements that make it a beautiful antique. It has a vintage charm that allows it to stand out.The chair features a tufted back and a cushy seat.

The front portion is rounded and this is a detail that allows the chair to distinguish itself from other similar pieces. The frame for the chair is crafted from mixed hardwoods. The frame is entirely hidden underneath the seat and back upholstery. The only visible wooden parts are the legs. The legs are very interesting because they have two different designs. The front legs are very different from the ones in the back.

The front legs are made of solid wood and have brass casters. Also, their shape is more intricate than that of the back legs. Both the front and back legs are made from the same material but only to have casters. The other two have a simple design. The rest of the chair is upholstered in microfiber printed velvet. The color palette includes earthy tones and the pattern is visually dynamic. The overall dimensions of the Venice Paisley Erin Chair are 27″W x 31″D x 36″H.Available for 239$.

Highly modern and stylish interior in dark grey-brown colour

Posted: 06 Sep 2012 08:00 PM PDT

This residence has a very interesting interior. It's full of contrasts. On one hand it's simple and austere but, at the same time, it's also sophisticated and very chic. It's minimalist and yet complex, dramatic and yet inviting. It's an interior that was recently completed by Russian architects Belugina Partners. The style chosen for this space is highly modern. Everything is sleek and stylish and there's a very nice balance of textures of colors. The color palette is not very wide. It's composed of dark grey-brown shades combined with black and white details.

Everywhere you look you see clean, strict lines that also have a very delicate look and chic appeal. The furniture throughout is modern, simple but also very lavish and stylish. The attention to details in this space is truly amazing. It's very interesting the way different textures are combined and brought together by the color palette.

The lighting fixtures are also an element that is repeated throughout. Surprisingly, the bathroom is the most eye-catching area. The incorporated lighting system allows it to shine in several bold colors and to glow into the darkness. It's one more detail that makes this design dramatic and impressive. It's also interesting how this area is the only one that has the potential of boosting bright, dynamic colors. It can also become monochromatic, like the rest of the residence.

Artistic Nautilus II Table by Marc Fish

Posted: 06 Sep 2012 06:22 PM PDT

Nautilus II came as a response to the success of the Nautilus Table. It's a second edition of the table designed by Marc Fish and it's a very artistic piece of furniture. Originally, the table's design was an experiment. The piece was created using modern computer-aided technology combined with innovative construction techniques. The result was a simple and yet very stylish piece of furniture.

When seen from above, the table perfectly resembles a shell. When seen from underneath, the table reveals an interesting contrast of colors resulting from the combination of different types of wood. But what you can't see or guess from any angle is that the table was crafted with over 4000 individual pieces of walnut and sycamore veneer that were layered until the desired shape was created. The result was the logarithmic spiral found within the Nautilus shell.

The shape of the table has never been closer to perfection. That's because the proportions of the Nautilus shell never change regardless of tis dimensions and of how big it grows. It's a very interesting fact that has been a great source of inspiration for the designer. It was this perfection so commonly found in nature that he wished to recreate artificially. The shell has been closely reproduces in every little detail. The texture of the table replicates the exterior of the shell and it was achieved by hand-carving the fluted growth patterns. Finally, the transparent glass top features the same delicate lines as the shell itself.

The Wild Bodged Hand Made Chairs

Posted: 06 Sep 2012 05:34 PM PDT

There are many different pieces of furniture with designs that were inspired by shapes and forms found in nature. However, few of them maintain the natural beauty of the materials they're made from as well as their raw appearance. The Wild Bodged Chairs are an exception. The chairs form a collection of hand-crafted seating objects that were designed by London-based Valentina Gonzales Wohlers.

The goal was to focus on the appreciation of classic furniture and to create a unique, contemporary design that would impress but that would also give us an image of the unfolding design process. The concept is unusual, original and very interesting and so are the pieces of furniture resulted from it.The designer used raw Mexican materials and traditional craftsmanship to create the chairs. They have a dynamic look and, because of the strangeness of their design and shape, it's difficult to integrate them into a category.

They are definitely contemporary creations and interesting accent pieces for all sorts of environments. The chairs are crafted using wood and branches of all kinds, lengths and thicknesses. They have an organic design and form and, given the types of materials sued as well as the techniques, each piece is unique and presents details that are different from one chair to another. They have a sculptural look and were designed to serve mostly as decorative elements.
