Unusual Artistic Fire Pit Looking Like Earth Globe

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 11:10 AM PDT

Fire is the important element that can protect life but also destroy it and it has always helped and fascinated people. Fire helps us get through the cold winters and lights our long nights. Fire has been brought to humans by Prometheus and he was punished for this. Or at least Greek legends claim that. But the point is we still use fire for both making our homes warm and also for preparing our food. Some of us even use fires as a reminder of the old camp fires, so they make fires when having garden parties and so on, especially at night. It can be the centerpiece of a nocturnal garden or beach party. And a pretty cool accessory for this kind of party might be this Unusual Artistic Fire Pit Looking Like Earth Globe.

It is a fire pit, the place where you can light the fire without the danger of setting fire on the property. The pit is made of metal, is spherical in shape and has an unusual yet very interesting design: it looks like a globe, with all the continents and oceans . Actually the continents’ contours are carved in the metal so that the flames can get out through them. The designer’s name is Rick Wittrig and he made it from thick carbon steel. The item can be bought for $1,679.

Small apartment defined by small details

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 09:16 AM PDT

In the case of a small apartment, you usually try to hide all the clutter and to make it seem airy and spacious. It might come as a surprise, but large furniture is the best choice for tiny rooms. It has a compact look and allows the room to feel less cluttered. However, there are cases when the opposite is surprisingly beautiful. This apartment is small and, to change that impression, it has been painted white. It has white walls and ceilings and light-colored wooden floors with the exception of the kitchen and dining area where the floor is black.

But, as for the furniture and the decorations, it's the opposite of what you would expect in this case. The apartment features a strange strategy. Each room features lots of shelves and lots of small details and decorations. This creates a very dynamic décor. The shelves are occupied by books, ornaments and all sorts of knick-knacks and each room has multiple walls covered with photographs and artwork.

It might seem a little chaotic but the reason why the apartment still manages to seem airy and spacious is because everything is well –organized and balanced. Even though there are many little details in all the rooms, they are all kept on the periphery of the rooms and they don't disturb the whole décor.{found on Alvhem}.

Contemporary apartment in Crimea with stylish gothic influences

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 07:21 AM PDT

Located in Crimea, on the northern coast of the Black Sea, this apartment has a very stylish interior. It's contemporary and it has a subtle dramatic touch. The apartment was a project by Vasily Butenko and it impresses with the beautiful contrasts featured in the interior designThe apartment has light floors and ceilings which create symmetry in all the rooms. The middle portions feature contrasting black walls that connect the lighter tones. The rest of the décor features earthy tones.

They were used for the furniture to offset the black surfaces. They are a sort of intermediate between the light and the dark surfaces. But the colors aren't the only element that presents interesting in the case of this apartment. The designer also played with textures.

What's very interesting is the way all those different textures combine and the way they interact. The patterns are also a great point of interest. The smooth surfaces contrast with the textured black walls but also with the wooden plaited walls. The bedroom is the most relevant for this matter. It's a room that doesn't follow the same lines as the rest of the apartment. It has a lighter color palette with a more delicate décor and a relaxing and casual atmosphere. It's also very interesting that the bed is actually integrated in an elevated platform that also contains a relaxing zone.{found on behance}.

Alcove chair

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 02:00 AM PDT

The main details a chair should feature are related to comfort and looks. The style is also important because it needs to match the rest of the décor. In the case of a contemporary home, the line between furniture and architecture is sometimes very thin. It's understandable since most contemporary designs sue clean lines, geometrical shapes and minimalist forms.

The Alcove Chair is very suggestive in this case. It's a contemporary piece of furniture and it was designed by Mike Haley. Its design is somewhat sculptural. The shape of the chair has clear angles and straight lines. A geometrical shape is formed and it changes its appearance depending on the angle you look at the chair. This design was chosen not only because of its aesthetical details.

The shape and form of the Alcove chair also offer the user visual and acoustical privacy, which is not something common to all similar pieces of furniture. This is a sort of personal space. This makes the chair suitable for spaces such as a reading corner but also for the living room since it's comfortable and great for watching TV in, as well as for a home office. The chair is particularly useful for those that wish to read, to talk on the phone without being disturbed by the noise around them or that wish to take a nap.

The compact DOK sideboard

Posted: 05 Sep 2012 01:36 AM PDT

There are many different styles, designs and forms when it comes to sideboards. But their primary function remains storage. Still, this doesn't mean they shouldn't also be perceives as potential accent pieces for the house. DOK is a very interesting sideboard. Apparently it's very simple but it's actually very beautiful once you see all the beautiful details.

The DOK sideboard can be placed somewhere between modern and vintage. The shape, the simplicity and the lack of decorations and accessories make it a wonderful contemporary piece. Still, it features rusty steel details and traces of corrosion that bring it closer to vintage and antique pieces. The process of corrosion comes as a natural effect and once nature has done its job the sideboard it finished with a varnish to prevent further damage. This way each piece is unique.

Even though it seems like a compact and uniform piece, the DOK sideboard is actually made up of several different units. These units can be ordered separately. The front and back of the units are made from the same type of plywood panels and this makes each piece a great freestanding unit. The front pieces have a piano hinge and two pivot arms that hold the door open. The overall dimensions of each individual unit are 80 x 55 x 45 cm and they come in white and dark brown.Available on site.
