DIY wall bike hanger made from old bike parts

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 10:50 AM PDT

A bike can occupy useful floor space and it's why we usually store our bikes on the walls. Wall bike hangers are very popular because they offer a functional and practical storage solution. Also, they offer lots of options. If you want something original and unique, you could try to make a bike hanger from old bike parts.

It's easy if you have an old bike. You could also buy the parts secondhand. Let's see what you need for this project. You need to find one set of drop styled handle bars, one quill stem that fits the handle bars, an old tire, a threaded piece of galvanized steel pipe for the stem, a wall flange that fits the pipe, a tape measure, a drill, two wood screws and a level. The first thing you need to do is to put the handle bars into the stem.

Then attach the pipe to the wall flange and insert the quill into the pipe. Hang everything on the wall using wood screws. First determine how high you want your bike to be stored and use a tape measure for that. Then simply attach the hanger to the wall and you're done. It's very simple and it's a project that can be done in a few minutes. Also, the materials you need are not expensive and you might even have them in your home.{found on kylethewilson}.

The minimalist WITJES wall storage system

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 10:00 AM PDT

This is WITJES. It's a wall storage system and to me it seems it has been designed for those that enjoy being very organized and that like to have a place for everything. The WITJES wall storage occupies almost an entire wall. If the room is small it might even go from one end to the other.

The great thing about WITJES is that it can be incorporated in both small and large rooms. It's a unit that is suitable for bedroom but that can also be included in other spaces. It has a simple and minimalist design and it's divided into several compartments. The compartments have different shapes and sizes and they form a sort of puzzle. Some are doors and some are drawers. Each compartment is a storage space.

The unit is impressive as it is but there's even more. The storage system consists of modular cupboards. To those compartments that you see can be arranged in any way you want. You can create different configurations that suit your needs and you can create different wall patterns. You can also form several distinct wall units. And since you can order any amount of cupboards in any size, you have total freedom when it comes to arranging and organizing the modular units. You can cover an entire wall with them or you can form all sorts of patterns and shapes.

Functional Valet Hanger by Diogo Frias

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 09:31 AM PDT

Today’s inspired piece is a wall-mounted valet hanger and shelf, an object that is very functional and helps you save up a lot of space. Designed by Diogo Frias this interesting piece has an extremely strange shape that creates mystery about its purpose and functionality.

Nowadays you can choose from more than one valet hangers for your home. Some of them take up a lot of space, but not Andy. The economy of space was a major factor during its development, which is achieved due to unfold in order to fulfill its primary function, the hanger. Folded, a frame of oak is visible only with a simple shape of a hanger cut on it, giving this lovely piece a more sculptural aspect. When not needed, Andy neatly tucks away. Moreover, as as added bonus, the top ledge can be used as either storage or display case.

Andy can be installed in your laundry room, making it easier for you to steam your clothes and then simply put them away. Furthermore it has a simple design that can be added to any decor. If you want Andy, then you can get your hands on one through Wewood. If you have the space to accommodate a beautiful valet hanger, why would you not install one?

How to decorate a small space

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 08:42 AM PDT

When you have a small home, it's often difficult to find a way to include everything you need and still have enough free space to feel comfortable and to have an airy room. You need to find new and clever storage solutions and to divide and decorate your home functionally but without sacrificing style. We can offer you a few tips for that.

A great trick for creating the impression of a larger space and of adding depth to your home is to use mirrors. They are both functional and stylish and they make wonderful decorations. But rather than using many small mirrors it would be better to use one large mirror. Find a beautiful frame that you like and use it. The mirror can either be integrate in the furniture, used as a tabletop, over a mantle, leaned on the floor or hanged on the wall. Also, a very clever tip is to place your mirror across from the window so that it would reflect the image seen from there and create the impression of having more windows than your room actually has.

Then there's the problem with furniture. Just because you have a small home doesn't mean you should use small furniture. When you put large furniture in a small space it actually makes that space look larger. This way your home will also look more airy. To maintain than open look in your small home you can also opt for armless chairs.

The windows should remain clear. You could use shades, shutters or blinds. Fabric curtains are very beautiful but they take a lot of space so they are not what a small home should have.

The color palette you use in the house is also important. Light colors will make the rooms feel larger and more airy while dark colors have the opposite effect. However, this doesn't mean you can't create color contrasts.{picture sources:1,2,3, and 4}.

The minimalist Tripod side table by Noon Studio

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 05:17 AM PDT

Side tables are generally appreciated for their versatility, compact designs and simplicity. They often also serve as decorative pieces. People search for designs that impress, that have a wow factor. With a side table it's relatively easy to offer them that. For example, the Tripod side table manages to impress without actually introducing anything opulent, glamorous or overly stunning.

The Tripod side table was designed by the team from Noon Studio. It's a contemporary piece of furniture with a minimalist design. But, as most contemporary pieces of furniture do, it offers strangeness in a simple and unexpected way. The Tripod table is unusual on most levels. First of all, as its name suggests, its base is a tripod. This makes it unusual compared to the vast number of for-legged tables. Then there's also another detail that makes this piece special.

This simple and minimalist side table can be easily disassembled. It breaks down into four flat-packed pieces. This means you can easily find the space to store it if needed and that you can easily disassemble it if case you need to move. It's a very practical detail and it can really make a difference is a number of cases. The Tripod table is made of ceramic and birch or oak plywood. One of its legs is bigger in size and extends past the table top. It even has a handle that allows you to easily move the table whenever you want. It's a very practical and interesting piece.

Small apartment with a cleverly-organized interior

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 04:25 AM PDT

This is an apartment that covers a total surface of 48 square meters. It's a small space but is ideal for a single person or for a couple. That's because it has an interior space that has been very cleverly organized. The internal distribution is something to be inspired by for similar apartments. Let's have a closer look. The room division is basically the classical distribution.

There's a large open space that includes the kitchen, the dining room and the living room and a separate volume for the bedroom. It's not an original design but it works perfectly for a small space like this one. Instead of having three tiny spaces separated by walls, there's only one. By eliminating the walls the area becomes visibly larger. Also, you get more freedom when decorating and if, for example, the kitchen is extremely small, you can expand it a little in the dining or living room.

The bedroom is an enclosed area. It has an adjacent bathroom that is tiny but featuring a minimalist décor that helps with that problem. The bedroom is the most serene space in the apartment. It lacks strong, vibrant colors. The open plan, on the other hand, is a very dynamic space. It has lots of storage spaces incorporated everywhere and a series of colorful accent features that create a casual and dynamic atmosphere.{found on Bolaget}.

A modern reinterpretation of Mount Rushmore in L.A.

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 03:10 AM PDT

A Mount Rushmore mural is not exactly what you would expect to see in L.A. or anywhere else for that matter. But there are many surprises out there. This is one of them and it's a very beautiful one too. This mural can be seen in L.A. and it has been created as an homage for this year's Independence Day. The idea itself is very original and unique but the surprises don't stop here.

The design of the mural is quite unusual too. It's not a faithful image of Mount Rushmore but a modern and much more colorful reinterpretation of that image. It was all thanks to Sao Paulo-based street muralist Eduardo Kobra. He traveled all the way to L.A. just to create this new mural. It's his own interpretation of South Dakota's famous Mount Rushmore. The imaged present on it are very beautiful and very well-detailed. Also, they are very colorful.

What's also very interesting about the mural is the fact that seen from up close, it's nothing but a series of juxtaposed geometrical shapes with different colors, shapes and sizes. They cover the portraits and complement them in an unusual and unique way. The talented painted managed to create a very modern version of the famous landmark. He was commissioned to produce the piece for an unveiling on this year's Independence Day.

Bright DIY neon light

Posted: 04 Sep 2012 02:00 AM PDT

Here's an interesting idea. When you can't make up your mind about the pendant lamp or lighting fixture you should choose for a particular room, maybe it would be better and simpler to just have a minimal fixtures hanging from the wire. You can make it look interesting and original and it allows you to save money and time.

This fixture consists of just a basic black cord with a porcelain socket and a light bulb. It's nothing fancy but it gets better. Leaving it as such would only make it stand out in a negative way. A simple solution would be to simply add some color. You don't have to look far away for the supplies. Chances are you have them all right there in your home. In this particular case it all changed once the cord was covered in neon pink duct tape and nylon cord.

The flashy neon color is often overwhelming but it can also be a great accent feature when used in small quantities such as in this case. So take the duct tape and wrap the whole black cord with it. Do the same with the nylon cord. Make a knot up at the top and begin wrapping until you reach the bottom. When you reach the end, make another knot. It's easy and it completely changes the look of this rather boring light fixture. Of course, you can choose any other color you like but it should be something that pops out.{found on brettbara}.
