Two stylish small bathroom interior designs

Posted: 26 Aug 2012 08:41 AM PDT

Everyone would prefer to have a large and spacious bathroom and to be able to decorate it the way they want. However, that's not the case for all of us. But just because you got stuck with a small bathroom doesn't mean that you can't make the best out of the situation. You can come up with some really beautiful décor ideas for the bathroom and there are also a few tricks that can help you redirect the attention from the size of the bathroom to its charming décor.

We have two beautiful examples to show you. The first one is a simple, contemporary bathroom interior. As you can see, the designer that worked with this room didn't have much space to use. However, the result is very stylish and beautiful. To avoid using too much space with decorations and fixtures, spotlights were used. The bathtub inevitably occupies one side of the room.

But the remaining space has been wonderfully exploited. In the space adjacent to the bathtub there is a simple and sleek storage space on top of which the washbasin was placed. The counter space can be used to store all those things such as soap, lotions, etc. while the space directly underneath is perfect for storing towels. Also, underneath that portion there is a free area, perfect for storing boxes and storage containers.

The second bathroom that we chose to show features a darker color palette. If the first one was featuring a refreshing green against the white walls, this one features several different tones of beige and brown. What's particularly beautiful about is the way the white bathtub and washbasin stand out and the way the clear blue water becomes the focal point.{pictures from site}.

Classic Graduate Lamp

Posted: 26 Aug 2012 07:12 AM PDT

Things are fashionable for a while and after that they are considered vintage, so you may like them or not, but they are not as cool as they used to be any more because their time simply passed. Well, great designers get the vintage look and add a new touch, a new vision and maybe a different material and they succeed getting a totally fresh object that you will certainly love.

For example the guys from School House Electric had some old iron molds that were used for manufacturing glass lamps back to the old times of the depression in America, but they now use them to make metal lamps like this beautiful Graduate Lamp that has a new and cool look and also an industrial feature that is so much appreciated these days, together with its vintage design.

This modern lamp is manufactured after the original model, so it keeps a bit of the Art Deco style, but it will look just fine in a modern office or in a traditional library or living room. The Classic Graduate Lamp has a maximum wattage of 100 watts and its cord (8 feet) is covered with cloth in order to protect it. The product is made in USA and is available in black, white and clear coated steel. You can purchase it now for $189.

House surrounded by a dense mesh of trees

Posted: 26 Aug 2012 05:02 AM PDT

This contemporary residence looks like an artificial oasis in the middle of nature. It's called the U House and it's located in Ericeira, Portugal. The house occupies a surface of 300.0 square meters on a site that measures 5,000 square meters. It was designed by Jorge Graca Costa in collaboration with Rui Rodrigues and Rafaella Gradvohl.Ericeira is a World Surfing Reserve and it's the place where three times national Surf champion José Gregório wanted to build his new home. He lives here with his wife and two daughters.

The house sits on top of a hill and provides panoramic views of the Saint Lorenzo Bay. The client and the architects agreed that the best approach would be to design a sustainable home. However, they also decided to adopt a modern look. In order to achieve that goal, the plan was to rather use raw materials instead of having a superfluous of green technologies.

The residence was organized into three volumes. In the middle there's a patio that sits on a plateau and has two long arms on its sides that are interconnected by a third body. The orientation and design of each structure was dictated by the views. The architects used eco-friendly interior finishes and decorated the house with artwork made from recycled material, in an effort to emphasize the sustainability of the whole structure. They also includes in the design floor and water heating by solar panels supported by biomass heating, microclimate environment created by the patio and the pool and rainwater harvesting.{found on archdaily}.

Reedy bookcase

Posted: 25 Aug 2012 10:19 PM PDT

Books used to be kept in massive bookcases made of wood. These pieces of furniture used to cover the walls of a special room in the house where people kept their books and the furniture was not so much important because the books were. However, nowadays, with all the information turning into electronic data and everything being read and accessed on the Internet rather than from real books, bookcases have turned into bookshelves and they are used for displaying different home accessories like small statues, objects of art among nice collections of books, too. This Reedy bookcase serves its purpose of keeping books together, but it is also a modern and cool home accessory that is part of a cool home design.

This bookcase is somewhat minimalist in style and design and is just the skeleton of the bookcases there used to be. It is a modular bookcase, so you can adjust it to your needs and make it as big or as small as you need it to be. It is designed by Autoban and it is manufactured by de La Espada. A very stylish Urgell apartment that you can rent during your vacation

Posted: 25 Aug 2012 02:42 PM PDT

In the recent years, more and more people are starting to consider other alternatives for the hotels when it comes to choosing a destination for their vacation. Apartments and houses are a very nice option in this sense. They feel a lot more personal than a cold hotel room, they offer more privacy and you get to have more space at your disposal. This Urgell apartment is just one of the many accomodations out there.

The apartment was designed by Stil Interiors and is located in Barcelona. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and it's perfect for a small family seeking for a quiet place to spend their vacation. It features a contemporary interior and it's indeed a dream destination. The apartment also offers, besides the bedrooms and living room, a very beautiful terrace with amazing views. It also has a rooftop deck with 360º views of the city.

The interior is almost entirely white. This gives a clean, airy, contemporary look. But despite that fact, the décor fails to be monotonous. That's because of all the black lighting featured throughout the apartment. It creates interesting patterns on the walls that offset the simplicity of the décor. Moreover, the black and white contrast is very strong. The lighting is simple but the effects it creates are artistic without being overwhelming. Add the breathtaking views to that and you get a perfect destination for your next vacation.

Lattice Nightstand Table

Posted: 25 Aug 2012 12:22 PM PDT

I was wondering one day how many tables you could need in a normal home. There is the dining table and the coffee table, but you might also need a side table because there are so many small things you might need to place on some sort of table in your house, because you can’t keep them stored somewhere, like a vase of flowers, your landline phone, the alarm clock and so on. This Lattice Nightstand Table is a side table I love. First i like it because of its design. It is so delicate and airy and it gives you the feeling you are traveling in time back to when the furniture in the park and some of the furniture in your home was made of wrought iron.

Secondly, this beautiful piece of furniture can be placed in any room without appearing to be out of place. It can serve as your nightstand, but also as a small table in the hallway and the table in the living room. Any way, it is elegant, but sturdy, being made of tubular steel, with a durable powder-coated finish. The table top looks more like a tray where you deposit things and it is surrounded by chainlink lattice which is great and skillful work. The four legs are crosses in two x-es and there is one adjustable leg that allows you to level the table. The product can be found at the Company Store for $349.

Four Mixtec Years Rug

Posted: 25 Aug 2012 11:23 AM PDT

Some wise guy once said that you can’t know who you are unless you know where you came from, your history. That is why tradition is very important all over the world and each people preserves it as much as they can. By preserving our traditions and customs we make sure we are still connected with our ancestors and continue to pass on the inheritance they passed on to us. This Four Mixtec Years Rug is a beautiful piece of tradition , a rug design that has been preserved for 700 years. This special design shows the link between two ancient civilizations on the American continent before they were even discovered by the Europeans: the Olmecs and the Mixtecs.

The patterns on this woolen rug were transmitted from generation to generation of handcraftsmen until they got to the present Zapotec Indians who manufactured this item now in Mexico. The material used for making the rug is Churro wool and it is hand woven by using ancient techniques that are still used by those people. It is not recommended to clean it with water, but dry clean it. The item is available in three sizes and can be purchased from Pendleton USA for a price between $1,200 – $2,800.
