Corliss Chair – the chair that meets old and new

Posted: 10 Aug 2012 04:06 PM PDT

Sometimes when you look at two things and take them separately they do not show anything out of the ordinary and do not make your heart beat faster. But once you put them together and combine them, you will get an excellent item that is great and the totally unexpected result that can turn heads. This is the beautiful and elegant Corliss Chair. It is very original as design, as it is made of two distinct parts: the seating and legs are made of maple hardwood while the back rest is made of handcrafted aluminum that is afterwards painted in vivid colours. The result is amazing, as you can see in the photos.

The chair is actually made of recycled materials and named after the the founder of the first independently-powered steam engine, George Corliss. It is innovative and elegant, smart and well designed. The traditional feature of manufacturing maple hardwood, typically American, is combined in a very successful way with the innovative and modern manufacture of aluminum, resulting in an unusual chair with great design. This chair is the image of innovation and is available in Black, White, Red, and Blue. If you are interested you will have to request a quote from Studio Dunn.

George Nelson Ceramic Clocks

Posted: 10 Aug 2012 01:02 PM PDT

We all get used to the way things around us look like. Shoes have a certain design and so do chairs, tables and other home accessories like clocks and vases, etc. But some creative people like George Nelson thought it would be a good idea to give all these usual things a new look, a fresh design and construction that will surprise everyone. This happened back in the 1950s and the whole world recognized Nelson’s genius. It was back in 1953 that Nelson designed the Ceramic Clocks, the clocks that had a ceramic body and a totally unusual but interesting design that you can admire in these pictures. The clocks were never manufactured until recently when Vitra decided to bring them back to light and make them according to the original plans of the designer.

George Nelson Ceramic Clocks have a playful design and an unusual shape. However, they look very nice, close to being considered works of art, just like the sculptures of Brancusi and Isamu Noguchi that were actually inspirational for Nelson. These clocks are made of glazed ceramics and most of them are immaculate, having only a few touches of red and black that emphasize their elegance and design. Each clock in this collection can be purchased for $305.
