Hive White Storage Unit

Posted: 04 Jul 2012 09:12 AM PDT

When I was younger I was very interested in bees and bee hives and one of the questions that haunted me for a while was why bees use a hexagon as their shape of choice for storing the honey. After I did some research in the school library I found out that this geometrical shape is the one that is able to store the most quantity of honey while covering the same area. I do not know the reason why bees chose this shape or whether they are simply brilliant or just lucky. But I do know that hexagones look great and they should be used more frequently in design. No wonder Craig Varterian used them as source of inspiration and instrument for his creation called Hive White Storage Unit.

These beautiful shelves are shaped like bee hives and they look amazing. They are supposed to be used for storing books, magazines and other items you might want to display. The storage unit is made of composite wood and is painted in white, which gives them a nice look against any kind of wall colour. The unit is not that big, nor too small, but it is made of three inter-connected hexagons and thanks to their unique design they can also be stacked in case you want more. Each set of three shelves is available for $99.95 on CB2.

A Healthier Life Using a Touch Free Faucet

Posted: 04 Jul 2012 08:16 AM PDT

Recently I have heard something about an infectious disease which spreads rapidly in the north of the country. More and more people are affected, especially kids. Perhaps, the problem could have been prevented if some serious measures would have been taken. All infected people are supposed to suffer from meningitis. It is an infectious disease that appears in case of dirty hands, consume of infected water or the bite of an infected mosquito.

In cases like this, a touch free faucet would have been of great help and a wonderful solution for prevention. The advantage is that almost any faucet can become a touch free faucet. The use of such an adaptor to the existing sink faucet and of its sensor will make able to control the flow of the water without the help of your hands.4 AAA batteries are required for this adaptor and almost 70% per usage of the water will be saved.

Those that are interested in a healthier life, a lower cost for their bills and a modern use of water will definitely want to have a Touch Free Faucet. All the benefits brought by the adaptor for this touch free faucet and its easy way of installation without any plumber modifications will determine a higher appreciation from many people and a larger use. Everybody will notice the quick use of the device, the preventions that can be done or the modern way of using water which fits any contemporary house. The more people will use it, the quicker our life will improve!{found on site}.

Interior design ideas for a glamorous living room

Posted: 04 Jul 2012 07:27 AM PDT

Some people like simplicity when it comes to their home while others like glamour. Of course, with a little inspiration, you could have both. In a home, people usually perceive the living room as being the most important room of the house. So what better place to add some glamor than this one? Let's take a look at a living room décor that is particularly beautiful and well balanced.

We can see that in this case there's a very nice balance between colors and textures and the result is a very stylish living room with a luxurious feel. If we analyze each piece of furniture in particular we see that they don't match exactly and are part of a set. They are all individual pieces of furniture that combined result in a chic and balanced composition. The sofa is a Corbusier and it's a very elegant piece. The form, the color, the texture, they all match wonderfully. A couple of leather cushions and a faux fur comforter are accessories that enhance the glamor of the décor.

The side table and the coffee table are part of the same collection. They are not particularly eye-catching but rather neutral pieces. The leather stool is compact, with soft edges and button detailing. It's also available in fabric and it comes in a variety of colors. In this case, the black leather version was an elegant choice. The table lamp has a design reminiscent of the art deco style and features a black silk shade. As you can see, there are many different textures and finishes but they all work wonderfully together. All available on site.

A Rest House With Terrace and Pool by Marti & Sarda Architects

Posted: 04 Jul 2012 06:14 AM PDT

Once you see this house, you imagine yourself enjoying on the terrace providing the most spectacular views and time seems to stop. This kind of house gives the impression of time stopping. The interior offers well decorated ambient with everything you might want: a functional distribution, which seems perfect for the joy of the entire family and beyond that, a welcoming, bright atmosphere, full of great ideas.

The wide windows with perfect white curtain provide direct access to the terrace; the whiteness of the facade is in contrast with the right clear lines, the warm mixture of texture carpentry, the stonewall and flooring. This new construction, which is the work of Marti & Sarda Architects, provides privacy, calm, serenity and freshness. Inside the space is organized around a great salon living with kitchen included; the living has a familiar ambiance with an own style.

The carpet in blue shades with its vintage effect brings together a sofa with chaise longue, two armchairs and three puffs. The sofa offers clarity and light, the wall behind matches some pieces of furniture in the kitchen, but also with some other walls. The bedroom is an example of an inviting space in natural tones; the bed is the key element, which gives vitality to the place. Both outside and inside everything is under the sign of calm, peace, coziness and all you have to do is to feel at ease and spend your time enjoying everything around.{found on micasarevista}.

Stool and table collection from Matej Chabera

Posted: 04 Jul 2012 05:20 AM PDT

What a better word to describe this furniture set than "dynamic". At a first look nothing looks unusual or strange but looking closer you will see the true size of this table and chairs set.  The original design has a deep meaning and a lot of thinking was involved before coming up with this concept. The main idea was to mobility and in the same time designer Matej Chabera wanted to eliminate the hierarchy. For most of the people talking from the same eye level is more comfortable and neither one feels superior.

This idea made possible this high table and bar-like stools. Implemented in a real life office situation this allows a big flow of people coming by and working standing up along people that are already there and they are seating in those big chairs. This kind of minimalistic look has a quite good looking detail in the lower part where the table and chair legs are. That particular arrangement denotes mobility and offers a dynamic look.

The materials used to build it are very well known around the world and used by all the modern furniture manufacturers.  The laser cut steel frame was bent into the right shape and powder coated to protect It from corrosion. The table top has a tremendous good looking semi-glossy ash veneer finish and the seats upholstery is made from a strong black fabric but optional they could come in black leather as well.

Vancouver apartment interior design we love

Posted: 04 Jul 2012 03:48 AM PDT

Located in Vancouver, Canada, this residence is a perfect mix between a contemporary apartment and a cozy family home. It was renovated by Canadian interior designer Robert Bailey and it's called the Silversea Residence. The apartment covers an area of 1,800 square feet/ 154 square meters. The way it looks now has nothing to do with its original design.

The renovation started with the demolition of the existing structure, leaving behind nothing but steel studs and concrete. The idea was to completely restructure the apartment in a way that would make it more functional. It needed to have a flexible design. The client wanted it to feel like a cozy home for their toddler but to also serve as an entertainment environment when needed. During the renovation, the spaces got more airy and the rooms were opened up. The master bedroom was completely redesigned and several partitions were removed in order to create an open flow and to let the spaces expand.

The apartment has three decks. They are all clad in wood with a color similar to that used for the interior. The interior design is simple and modern and the atmosphere is inviting, cozy and calm. The walls throughout the apartment were painted marble white and the floors are natural walnut. They complement each other beautifully. The apartment feels very fresh, chic and feminine and reflects the client's personality.{found on contemporist}.

Rustic Inspired Place Settings: Inspiration & Ideas

Posted: 04 Jul 2012 01:00 AM PDT

If you’re inspired by organic elements and nature’s most beautiful gifts, then setting up your dinner table with a rustic surprise could be a great way to express your favorites. Now when we think rustic we don’t just think of the trendy “shabby chic” styles but we also think of simplistic designs and ideas. We think of bringing bits of the outdoors inside and enjoying all the beauty of the trees and living off the land.

But rustic styles should never be confused with vintage styles. Although the two can easily be mismatched and fused together, today we’re all about the simplistic of the rustic ways without any super feminine or grandiose displays.

Try adding a bit of burlap or raffia to a clean setting, it’ll add a bit of that down-home feel without being too over the top. Creams, ivories and different shades of brown hues and greens are perfect for this style. It keeps it organic and fresh. Adding too bright colors downplay the idea of the rural vibes.

Adding potted flowers to the mix will enhance the naturalness as well. Beautiful, rich creamy florals can be used as a centerpiece to balance out a burlap table runner or napkin. Again, keeping the colors as neutral as possible will only help create the rustic ethos. Try making a monochromatic scheme based on the color of your table and chairs.

Adding bits of fruit or leaves is an option as well. Anything organic is a great way to bring in your own creativity, personality and fun while sticking with your theme and vision.

Textures work too! Add velvety ribbons or fun nick-nacks to add and enhance. Napkins, place mats, tablecloths and table runners with texture evoke hat organic edge and again, it give you an opportunity to add your own flair.

Remember, just because you’ve chosen a rustic theme for your dining room or dinner party, doesn’t mean it can’t be chic. Keep everything crisp and clean, with just a few of those loose, rough edges and you’ve got something stylish that brings about what you love in nature without being too messy.

If you want to use a bit of color, just don’t go so overboard that you wash away your rustic theme. Add lighter shades and mix them in with all your natural elements. Think outside-the-box and add bits of leathers and wood, have fun and keep inspired!

Abandoned farmhouse turned into a Dollhouse

Posted: 04 Jul 2012 12:22 AM PDT

This life-sized dollhouse is located in Sinclair, Manitoba, Canada. It used to be just an abandoned farmhouse that would have eventually turned into ruins and disappeared. Fortunately, artist Heather Benning happened to find it and decided to use it as her next project.Heather enjoys finding old and abandoned houses and turning them into giant installations. It's a different kind of art that we're used with, the type that you can't fit in your home but in which you can enter, literary.

The artist named this project Dollhouse. She found this two-storey farmhouse in 2005 and started working on it in 2007. She began transforming the house and, little by little, it began to take shape. The house had a narrow footprint and a very simple layout which made it perfect for this project.

The farmhouse needed to be renovated. The artist had to create new walls and to remove all the furniture in order to replace it with new pieces. She also had to restructure the interior so she removed one of the side walls and used the shingles to restore the roof. The interior was repainted and redecorated. Heather used vintage furniture to capture the house's charm and original beauty. At the end she installed a plexiglass wall to protect the interior. This was a very interesting project and visitors can still admire it. However, they are not allowed inside.{found on inhabitat}.
