Mirador House in Lima by 2.8 x Architects Posted: 03 Jul 2012 10:00 AM PDT Mirador House inLima,Peruis a project designed by 2.8 x Architects. Located in a residential neighborhood in the east ofLima, the house's main objective was to contain an air of renewal and modernity in order to ensure the functional comfort for daily functioning we all want. The intention of the building was accomplished and thus we have the picture of a volumetric architectural modern, transparent, bright minimalist building, but also concepts of the modern movement architecture of the 30′ s gathered in the same space. The two existing volumes contrast each other: a fully transparent one, made of glass and metal including the social housing area that allows a clear view over the city and a second volume, containing the most private area of the house. The materials that help to create the counterpart and demonstrate how the building sits on the hill are stone and concrete and the idea is that of allowing the volume to feel like a free-floating element.
Also among the most interesting aspects, there is the idea of exploiting the full view and fix the theme of the fifth facade in the homes spread over the hill neighborhood. From outside, everything seems unexpected, but once you get closer things provide a more normal perspective, with common elements that belong to all houses, but also with a garden terrace that impresses more than anything, just perfect to admire the view and feel at ease in the company of friends and family.{found on contemporist}. The limited edition Superleggera armchair Posted: 03 Jul 2012 09:16 AM PDT You might find this armchair odd because of its unusual shape. However, this design was not chosen simply because of its strangeness and ability to attract attention but mostly because it's a very comfortable design. The armchair is called Superleggera and it was designed by Joe Colombo. Another surprising detail about it is the fact that it was originally designed in 1965. This visionary piece of furniture is still perceived as modern and stylish even after all these years. It's an advantage that timeless creations have. The armchair was designed for B-Line and it's currently being produced in a limited edition. This makes it even more special. This unusual chair was designed for reading. It's an ideal piece of furniture that allows the user to sit comfortably while reading a favorite book. It features an oil-varnished, curved multilayer walnut frame, the base for a very comfortable shape.
The Superleggera armchair features an anatomical cushion designed to follow to human body's contour and perfectly fit with the user's silhouette. The armrests are also designed for comfort. The cushion and the armrests have polyurethane foam padding and either leather or fabric upholstery. The chair comes in several different colors and it's a part of the permanent collection of the Vitra Design Museum in Berlin. Its design and perfect combination of shapes, lines, materials and details makes it a unique piece that would easily become a star in any interior. Posted: 03 Jul 2012 08:26 AM PDT Aged or distressed wood is a beautiful feature, especially on a coffee table. And since it's also an easy to build piece of furniture, it would be simple to make one yourself. It would be a lovely DIY project and it's also a simple project that doesn't require specialized skills or difficult to find materials. So here's how you can make a cart-style coffee table. To make a table similar to that from the pictures you would first have to find some old pieces of wood. These ones are pieces of an old wood fence that got replaced. The rest of the materials that you need include one sheet of 1/4″ MDF measuring 24″ x 48″, two pieces of 1″ x 8″ lumber, each 8 feet in length, one piece of 2″ x 4″ lumber, 12 feet in length, wood glue, four 5'' wheels, screws, eight feet of 1'' jute rope and water-based clear coat. The whole project will cost approximately $100.
Start by cutting the lumber to the desired dimensions and glue them together using wood glue. You'll need to clamp the pieces together until they're dry. For the feet you can just attach them all four and let them dry at the same time. Then use some more lumber, glue and a nail gun to make a frame for the table. It should look like a box. Place a leg on each corner of the box and secure them together with glue. Turn the table over the stain the top and the sides. Now the fun part begins. You can finally attach the fence boards. Attach them using glue and the nail gun. When you're done, flip the table upside down and attach the wheels and then the jute rope handles. Not your coffee table is complete and ready to be a part of your living room décor.{found on addicted2decorating}. Alpha Wall Sconce by Aureliano Toso Posted: 03 Jul 2012 05:55 AM PDT I am drawn by unusual things, by everything that is unique and looks like no other thing because it shows creativity and innovation and sometimes genius. I hate average things and homes that look just like they are copied from the same source. So if you want to have a nice home and to make your friends remember it on the spot, you should purchase some unique items that will give it personality and make it a stylish cool home. This is the Alpha Wall Sconce by Aureliano Tosoand it is anything but ordinary. When you first look at it, you can’t possibly guess what it is used for unless it is lit.
It looks more like a work of art or a modern sculpture and not like a sconce lamp. Its design is a strange combination between a huge bow in degrade and a sparkling UFO with an undefined shape. You may say it looks like a butterfly, but it is nothing more than a beautiful wall sconce. It shows the visual effect of fluidity which is furthermore enhanced by the colours of the lamp shade (glossy Off White when turned off, sandy layers when illuminated). The lamp is designed by Franzin Paolo and can be purchased for a price between $355.50 – $621.00 since it has two available sizes. Restoration of an 18th Century Colonial House Posted: 03 Jul 2012 05:05 AM PDT Usually old historical buildings pass many periods of changes. They are the witnesses of a lot of important events, perhaps periods of war that make them vulnerable and affect their structure and design. In time they suffer a lot of modifications and people try to restore them in order to make them resist in time or update them. Thus, there is an 18th century colonial house, located in Port Louis, Mauritius which was restored and its back stable buildings were transformed in some modern offices. There were used wood items for the restoration of the existing wooden structure, external walls and the roof cladding so that the historical building could keep its original design.
Glass walls are also used for the colonial house, especially for the bathroom. The house keeps the wooden dark staircases and the massive wood pieces of furniture, Chandeliers are present too like some of the paintings that appear on the walls. The multitude of interior doors is also kept and the long and elegant window curtains too. White seem to dominate all the interiors which it is contrasted by the dark nuance of the wooden pieces of furniture or the wood parquet.{found on behance}. Colorful corporate office interior design by Space Architecture Posted: 03 Jul 2012 04:03 AM PDT Located on Insurgentes Avenue in Mexico City, Mexico, the San Pablo Group Corporate Offices are a colorful and playful space. The interior was designed by Space Architecture and it was completed in March 2011. As you enter you reach an open reception area flanked by two stained-glass windows with colorful and abstract graphics. As you advance you reach the focal point of this area, a green wall featuring the company's logo. The reception area leads to a long hallway that connects and separates two large rooms. These spaces feature playful and colorful interior decors with fun graphics on the walls. The atmosphere inside is casual and relaxed and they have an airy, bright and open design. Each room features a different décor and seems to have its own personality. It's a feature that separates them from all the other spaces and helps you distinguish them.
The intensity of the lighting is yet another element that helps generate different atmospheres and that gives unique identities to each work area and each room. Each area has views towards the exterior and thus beneficiates from natural light. The offices also include, besides the actual work areas, a series of recreational spaces where workers can relax, clear their heads and then go back to work with a fresh mind. This is definitely modern approach that focuses on efficiency and on making the work environment as pleasant as possible. Historic cottage in Nantucket renovated by Luke Thornewill Posted: 03 Jul 2012 02:21 AM PDT This beautiful cottage is located in Nantucket, a lovely island 30 miles south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It's a historic building and it has been recently renovated by architect Luke Thornewill and interior designer Janet Kielley. It was a two-year long project but it was finally completed. When you see how beautiful the interior looks like you understand why it took them so long to finish it.The cottage didn't get a total makeover. The architect and the interior designer tried to preserve as much as possible the original charm of the building and to update it while also maintaining the same style. As you can see, everything has its place inside the cottage. The attention to details is amazing. It looks like a brand new old cottage with rustic features and a charming décor. The kitchen is quite small but very cute. It features white walls and cabinets with subtle antique-like decorations and details.
The walls have been painted white throughout for a fresh and airy look. The furniture introduces turquoise accents in the form of a cabinet, a bench or the dining room chandelier. The color palette contains pastel tones with bold touches of blue and turquoise. The décor is very rustic and the atmosphere is quiet, relaxing and soothing. The decorations and accessories played a very important role in this project and really bring everything together in a balanced and charming décor.{found on countryliving}. Posted: 03 Jul 2012 12:43 AM PDT Big spaces always have marvelous interior solutions, and I'm not just saying that because I like them but because they are indeed wonderful, not to mention that designers can let their mind explore all the possible ways of design. Big places have big living rooms; areas of richness and joy where the human eyes and other senses can be spoiled with various things starting from a high quality sound system and finishing with trendy carpets and sofas. A fine example of such a treat for our senses is this couch. Especially designed for a large area with a youthful touch this sofa represents the main "attraction" in any living room. It can be used as it is here, in the first picture but also in various combinations spread around the entire space thanks to its modular design. The fabric is very strong and resistant but also delicate and pleasant to touch. The colors combination is very bold but also kind of elegant.
I like the strong colors that contrast with each other and I don't know who came with the pillow-idea but they really stand out beautifully having green and gray as a background. So this piece can integrate perfectly in the environment I recommend to first place the sofa and then reorganize the entire room accordingly; because as I was saying I would love to see this Cummulus sofa as the main piece. But why don't you find out by yourself? Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to Cummulus Modular Sofa |
Colorful vacation home in Hawaii Posted: 03 Jul 2012 12:00 AM PDT This vibrant home is a vacation getaway for a busy California couple. They wanted to have a place where they can escape, where they can relax and release all the stress and they also wanted this space to be far away from home. It's why they decided to build this lovely vacation home in Hawaii. The house is located in Maui and covers a surface of 1,600 square feet. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and features a colorful and very refreshing design. The color palette is vibrant and cheerful choosed by Natalie Younger . It includes tones of red, yellow, green and blue. Since the landscape was so beautiful the owners to create a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. This way they can feel like a part of the island and can enjoy its tropical beauty. When designing this getaway house, the owners wanted it to feel familiar and to remind them of home but to also feel like a vacation retreat and to be bold and cheerful. Since they only spend their vacations here, the house needed to be low-maintenance. The owners opted for furniture that was treated with a nontoxic coating to prevent the stains, spills and wear and tear and outdoor cushions made with Sunbrella fabric for durability against the elements.
The atmosphere here is very relaxing but also very cheerful. The house includes an L-shaped kitchen with a simple and economical décor since the owners don't use that much anyway, an adjacent dining room with a beautiful shell chandelier and rattan chairs and a spacious living room with a custom-made sofa. They also decorated the house with unique accent pieces and custom-made accessories. It's like they have their own piece of tropical paradise.
