The beautifully balanced Casa Lola from Brasil

Posted: 02 Jul 2012 10:40 AM PDT

In Brasil, in a small fishing villa called Trancoso, lies a very beautiful and charming house. It's a modest place but it's very beautiful and it impresses in a very lovely way. Casa Lola, as it is called, is a beautiful example of perfect balance. Not only that is has a simple design but everything about it is just perfect.

Casa Lola is an exquisite mix of materials. It has been built with a keen eye for balance and it features a combination of glass, wood and cement that is not uncommon in its essence but surprising in the way it has been used and in the way each material preserves its characteristics and nature and merges with the whole and the context to create a very harmonious design. This property has a unique way of taking something simple and turning it into something spectacular while also preserving its simplicity and authenticity.

Overall, Casa Lola seems like a perfect reflection of the town that's its home. It's a modest home but it has many beautiful details that make it unique and turn it into a spectacular example of fine architectural and design. I particularly like the choice of materials. The indoor-outdoor connection is very strong and everything seems to be in perfect sink with everything else and with the landscape.

Inside, the house features exposed wooden beams, wooden furniture that doesn't aim at being perfect but rather at being natural and a series of unique details. Even though the materials used are not defined by finesse and warmth in particular, here they make this house feel very inviting and cozy as well as charming and stylish in its own way. It's not what you use but how you use it that's important. Casa Lola is the perfect example for that.

Morimoto Restaurant- a sophisticated interior design by Schoos Group

Posted: 02 Jul 2012 09:15 AM PDT

Sometimes a special location for an exquisite event makes all the difference. A wedding proposal made at the shore of the sea, sitting at a romantic dinner table will definitely mark the whole event or the announcement of the arrival of a baby made in a joyful atmosphere created by a family dinner table set in the garden are just some examples of places which are carefully picked up for such special events and can influence the ambiance that we want to create.

The firm Schoos Group, the winners of Hospitality Design Award succeeded to create Morimoto, a modern restaurant with a sophisticated design, inspired by the Camino Real Hotel in Mexico. Even the location proved to be a real challenge for them as they had to divide a large room, using a 75 foot high glass ceiling and create a really nice functional area. Thomas Schoos, the leader of the team of designers based his project on lighting and its efficient use.

The areas are spacious, the wood diner tables with their slim wood chairs look very formal and make you think of some office desks. The marble floors, the huge black ceiling lamps with their golden light, the tall wood candle sticks that appear all over the place, the golden furnishings, the huge yellow sofas or the rope art installation make the whole place look original and warm.

There are some wood stairs which take you upstairs where a long diner table with some joyfully colored chairs wait for you.Downstairs there are many wood diner tables, a private area with a long diner table arranged in an elegant manner and where you can enjoy a pleasant meal with your family and friends.

Geo freestanding bathtub by Ludovica+Roberto Palomba

Posted: 02 Jul 2012 06:45 AM PDT

GEO 170X70 is a stylish freestanding bathtub designed by Ludovica+Roberto Palomba in 2012. It's a part of the Geo Collection and it has a minimalist and contemporary design. It features a compact outer shell and a delicate design with soft curves that form an overall geometrical but elegant and chic form. The lines are clean but rigorous.

GEO 170X70 is an acrylic bathtub that measures 1700x700xh600 mm. It can either be used as a freestanding tub or placed against the wall. It has versatile design and dimensions that allow it to be easily integrated in a variety of decors. It's suitable for both small and spacious bathrooms. The design is simple and sophisticated at the same time and it's mostly due to the geometrical appeal of the form. But this apparently pure and very simple bathtub actually offers more than it lets you see.

The GEO170X70 is also a hot tub that allows you to relax and let all the stress go. And to make things even more interesting, the tub also has a system that allows it to color the water inside it in different shades such as aqua blue, green, orange or yellow. In a dark environment, the light is reflected on the wall and around the tub. It's just a detail that allows you to spice up the atmosphere.

Beauty and Simplicity in Traci’s Retro Style Kitchen

Posted: 02 Jul 2012 05:30 AM PDT

Although may seem rustic and out of fashion there are people who still appreciate the beauty and simplicity of crafting. Wood, ceramic, leather, straw, fabrics are some of the materials used by craftsmen who are able to create amazing and beautiful things with them. Rustic wood pieces of furniture, wood spoons, leather bags or belts, shirts made of a light and soft fabric, ceramic vases or bowls and many other decorative items can be often seen at different crafting exhibitions.

In South Pasadena, Traci has a home which is a mixture of new and vintage items of all kinds which create a comfortable and lovely place to live in. Kitchen, for example is a retro style decorated space where vintage items make the whole delight of such a place. Vintage colored tea pots, decorative bird shaped ceramic items or other vintage bowls can be noticed here.

This kitchen is a nice combination of white and grey nuances so that all these vintage and colored details make the space more vivid and attractive. It seems that the dining corner is the most exemplifying area. It has a vintage buttoned vinyl bench and a special dining table made from Carrera marble and honed to a Knoll style tulip banquette base. Above the vintage bench there are many portraits on the wall which also add a retro touch and bring more color to this area.

Modern appliances do not miss and they are contrasted by the vintage design of the white cabinets. It is a pleasant place where a peaceful chat or a delicious meal can always take place in such a comfortable place.{found on thekitchn}.

The playful Cappellini Cloud shelf

Posted: 02 Jul 2012 04:49 AM PDT

Simple but bold, the Cappellini Cloud shelf is something that you can easily integrate in the living room, bedroom, home office or study. It might seem that the shape of the shelf is simply resembling a cloud. In reality it's a well-defined shape designed to allow these units to be combined and to fit perfectly on the wall.

The cloud Shelf was designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, two brothers that have been working together for about ten years and always inspire each other. They came up with this idea of a cloud-shaped shelf in 2004 and managed to transform it into a versatile and stylish piece of furniture that still looks modern. It's one of those timeless designs that will look as good as it does now ten years later. The Cloud shelf is a modular piece of furniture manufactured with the rotational technology.

Each unit is provided with two clips that can be used to combine them together in order to form a bigger structure. The shelf features a series of seven compartments with round shapes that can be sued to store books, decorations and all sorts of items. The overall dimensions of this unit are 41″ H x 74″ W x 16″ D and it costs $1,062.00. However, this is an item that can be custom made according to your exact specifications.

6 Ways To Make A Monochromatic Bathroom Pop!

Posted: 02 Jul 2012 04:03 AM PDT

Monochromatic bathrooms are my favorite. They always seem a bit cleaner, sleeker, newer and more upscale. And did I mention cleaner? Who doesn’t like a nice crisp and clean bathroom? The problem is the styling and decorating. How do we make a one-color bathroom a little less boring a bit more fashion friendly? It’s easy! Just use a one of these 6 ways to make a monochromatic bathroom pop and you’ll be on your way to a more stylish powder room!

1. Pops of color.

Have an all-white bathroom or maybe even an all-blue? Try adding very minimal pops of color with your accessories like your towels, rugs or wall art. It adds playfulness, fun and surprise without taking away from the monochromatic vision.{found on lowes}.

2. Add edge with some metallic!

Adding some silver or gold metallic can really add some edge and flavor to one of the lesser decorated spots in the home. Metallic can be very chic and stylish … and very fun to create with! Use metallic faucets or frames to add a bit of class to various places without straying away from your main monochromatic theme.

3. Play with one bright color!

Monochromatic doesn’t mean white, black or gray. Think creatively! Pink or yellow may be just what you need to jazz it up!

4. Various shades work too.

Pink one color and work with all the different shades! You can even do this with the neutral colors. Do bright white, white and ivory. Do navy blue, royal blue and baby blue! It’s still monochromatic but adds a bit more personality!

5. Don’t stray from your favorite shade.

Then again, maybe you love that one particular shade! Then it’s your prerogative to have the exact match! Definitely crisp and clean … and a bit more of a challenge, it’ll impress your guests and yourself when you’ve found the perfect ensemble.{found on countryliving}.

6. Stick with organic neutrals.

For a zen feel and relaxing vibe stick with the neutrals. It doesn’t have to be boring if you add the right kinds of touches or patterns but it’ll still make you feel like home. With the right accessories it will be stylish and up-to-date while still be nice, crisp and clean.{found on casadecor}.
