Nostalgic Neon Harvey Davidson Clock Posted: 20 Jun 2012 12:11 PM PDT When you are young and rebel you like dangerous things like the motorbikes, so most young people have a crush on Harley Davidson motorcycles, since they are the best or at least the most famous ones. Well, as you grow older your passion fades away and you have kids, so you can no longer endanger them and yourself, so you will not be a “biker” any more unless in your soul. But you will always be nostalgic about it and you will always love the things that remind you of the glorious days. That is why designers make such things like this Nostalgic Neon Harvey Davidson Clock that you can use in a bar but also in your living room.
First of all the clock is shaped like a motorbike tire and is perfectly round. It is illuminated with the glow of orange neon. The round housing of the clock mechanism is made of rugged metal and it is blackwrinkle powdered coated . That gives it resistance in time and durability. The design of the clock face is accented with glass border graphics. There are the regular arabic numbers spread around the dial and also the Harley Davidson emblem in the middle. You can choose whether to use the neon light inside the dial or not, depending on the clock location. The clock has three arms (one for seconds, too) and can be bought for $327.49. Colorful and refreshing nightstand makeover Posted: 20 Jun 2012 10:09 AM PDT Here we are with another interesting and inspiring makeover project. This time we turned our attention to what used to be a nightstand. In this case, what's particularly interesting is that these two nightstands were in perfectly good condition and they were actually quite expensive. I guess its owner really wanted to exercise her DIY skills and this wasn't just one of those projects where you have something that you no longer use but decide to transform it rather than throwing it away. The two nightstands were each transformed into something else. One of them was turned into another kind of nightstand while the other became a lovely side table. They were both repainted and got a fresh new look. They now feature a lovely tone of pale green, very beautiful and soothing, especially for the bedroom. The piece that became a nightstand preserved its shape and structure. It just got a fresh coat of pastel paint and some webbing on the door. The result is surprising and very stylish.
The other nightstand became a side table. I didn't get to preserve its structure or shape. The nightstand got a complete makeover and it's unrecognizable. The owner kept the door and created a cubic structure that she then placed on four stylish, vintage-style legs. She actually used only the interior square-shaped part of the door and added the same webbing as the one used for the other nightstand. She now has two original and unique pieces of furniture that she proudly say she made by herself.{found on curbly}. Posted: 20 Jun 2012 08:58 AM PDT Graux & Baeyens Architects are “responsible” for the 19 th century corner house, located at the Muide waterfront area, in Gent,Belgium. It provides a unique view on the old city harbor clocks of Ghent, but the essence was conserved by means of the facade, the stairwell and the roof truss, each being a rough coat for the new spaces. Both the rooms and the living spaces were conceived as a stack of volumes, a white sculpture in the existing casing. The interior is the interplay of original and new elements, the contrast being enhanced by colors and textures. The so- called G-S House looks like a conventional terraced house, with bedrooms on the ground floor, lounge on the first floor, while the kitchen and the dining room can be found on the top floor.
The initial intention was accomplished, the symbiosis between contemporary residential living and the charm of the 19 th century Belgian corner house being a total success. It is the kind of house with everything you might think of, including an enclosed patio. If at first when you look at the building, the house does not seem to reveal too much, once you step in, you enter a new universe, made of both original and new elements, no matter where you look. The view over the old city harbor clocks of Ghentis one of a kind; every room is modern and the black and white contrast seems the perfect solution for this space with wide windows that provide a unique perspective over the outside world.{found on archdaily}. The all-in-one kitchen table by Aslıhan Tokat Posted: 20 Jun 2012 07:20 AM PDT Little by little, we are starting to compress the elements we use in our home. The living room sofa doubles as a bed, the dining table doubles as a desk and so on and so forth. But the kitchen is the room where we need the most free space. It's why Aslıhan Tokat has come up with a very ingenious table design. This is a multi-functional table that basically includes everything one needs in the kitchen when preparing food and not only. The table is called Future Cook and it's an interactive unit. It serves as a prep area, a washing area and it includes an induction cook top and an integrated food processor. It's basically everything you need in one simple table. This allows you not only to save a lot of space in your kitchen but to basically replace the whole kitchen with this unit.
The Future Cook also allows you to learn nutritional information about the food you're cooking and electronic recipes right there at your kitchen workstation. The main idea was to create a smart counter, the kitchen table of the future that would allow you to save space and time. The Future Cook offers you all that in a very attractive package. The table has a minimalist and futuristic design and a very compact shape. It's elegant, easy to use and extremely functional.{found on yankodesign}. Posted: 20 Jun 2012 07:11 AM PDT Usually I like going and visiting different places and I am really excited about the new sceneries I am about to enjoy and I am like a child getting the favourite toy when it comes to trips. However, after a few days I miss home and I can’t wait to come back. All people are like that because they have the feeling of belonging that draws them back home, but sometimes you can find such a wonderful place that makes you feel like home when you are abroad and far from where you live. This is the dominant feeling when you see this beautiful restored farmhouse called Il Villino, which in Italian means “little villa”. This villa is very comfortable and luxurious, but it is nothing like the modern and high tech places you would expect. On the contrary, it is an old restored building that looks amazingly well and shows the strong and nice brick walls. When you enter the villa you feel like an ancient Italian landlord who came to check on his lands and fields. The building is situated somewhere near Lake Trasimeno and Chiusi on the Tuscan-Umbrian border, in Italy.
What is amazing about this villa is the fact that it resisted the time passing by and looks amazing, with the look of those villas you could see in the black and white movies. It is surrounded by nature and it suits the beautiful scenery around it perfectly. There have been some essential improvements made to it, inside and outside and I can start with the big and beautiful swimming pool in front of the house that is shaped like a fan and where you can enjoy the clear blue water in these hot summer days. Then there’s the nice interior who was decorated so as to keep the traditional look and patina that give the house a special charm, so you can see wooden floors and ceiling beams combined with the beauty of the bricks and the apparently old candelabra. Everything is decorated with impeccable taste and nothing is too much or too little. That is precisely why you feel “at home” there, no matter what your nationality or tastes. Posted: 20 Jun 2012 06:10 AM PDT When you first get up in the morning, the last thing you want to do is make your bed. If you have a housekeeper than it's all taken care of. However, what if the bed would actually make itself? It sound like a dream or something you would expect to see in sci-fi movie. Nevertheless, it's true. Someone has actually created a bed that makes itself in the morning or whenever you get up. This revolutionary self-tidying bed has a system that allows it to take care of itself. All you have to do is get up in the morning and before you even get to make your coffee the bed is nice and tidy. You don't have to do anything. Immediately after you leave the bed, a small mechanical arm comes out from a hidden space. It sits on the side of the bed and it has two rollers that pull the cover or duvet up to the head of the bed. The cover is straightened out and arranged perfectly, even better than you would have done it.
The pillows are also taken care of. They have cords attached to the pillowcases and they are straightened and elevated. After they are straight, they fall back where they belong, on top of the tidy cover. The bed is now perfectly done and you didn't have to lift a finger. Well…you actually do need to press a button. It's a very ingenious and revolutionary piece of furniture and it also has a beautiful and simple design. Sigurd Larsen’s perfectly organized shrine Posted: 20 Jun 2012 04:15 AM PDT We all have all sorts of little objects, treasures and things we like to keep. We store them in boxes and we hide them in cabinets where they sit all crowded and forgotten. Still, wouldn't it be better to have a nicely organized container where we can keep all of our treasures? We're talking about something similar to this lovely shrine created by architect and designer Sigurd Larsen. The Shrine, as he calls it, is a wooden box with lots of compartments and drawers. It's like a miniature house with many rooms. You can use the compartments to store all your little treasures and can all be nicely arranged. They will all have their own little room and you can arrange them according to size, personal value or any other categories you want. They Shrine is a compact structure that is particularly useful in small, open apartments where there's not a lot of storage space for small items.
The drawers and doors can only be opened with keys. They were designed to hold personal and private items that need to be locked away like in a safe. The compartments have different sizes and they have been scaled according to typical accessories and gadgets that people usually use, such as jewelry, records, players, documents and even whisky bottles. The Shrine is a very functional and practical structure that anyone would find useful. Two-storey contemporary home with a beautiful view Posted: 20 Jun 2012 03:36 AM PDT The Carillo Residence is a two-story contemporary home located in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, USA. It was designed for a young couple and their two children and the objective was to create a space that could be both formal and informal, casual and elegant. The residence was a project by California-based design studio Ehrlich Architects and it has been recently completed. The Carillo Residence sits on a long narrow site and it offers beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. The shape and orientation of the house were dictated by the site. The architects designed a house with the ground floor covered in stone and with a white box floating above this level. The box contains the bedrooms and was strategically placed on top so that it could offer panoramic views of the Santa Monica Canyon. On one end of the residence is the living room. It's a spacious volume with glass walls that also divided the outdoor space into two courts. One is the informal front court where the children can safely play and that's adjacent to the family area while the other is the formal rear court that includes an outdoor dining area, a barbeque are and an infinity-edge pool.
The residence is contrasting from this point of view. There's always this delimitation between formal and informal spaces. Another interesting element is the permanent connection between the indoor and outdoor areas. The living room and the dining room could be easily made a part of the rear court. Moreover, the living room's glass walls allow expansive views of the canyon. Inside, there's also a clear delimitation between the formal adult areas and the informal family spaces. They are separated by the play area that can be closed off.{images by Barry Schwartz.}. Posted: 20 Jun 2012 02:43 AM PDT Today we live in a very interesting society where geographical limitations no longer exist and also the language barrier has been overcome. So all the people travel all over the world and you can see a mix of cultures and influences everywhere. That is why you will see combinations that otherwise wouldn’t be possible, like this beautiful Klismos Bar Stool, which is obviously Greek considering the name, but also has some Scandinavian influences in style and design. But I think that is exactly what makes it so special and interesting in the first place.
This stool is pretty simple in design and also comfortable, with a round seating and four legs. It is quite interesting to see that the legs come linked together two by two and made of solid wood. These legs are arched and elegant, having a nice design and this way giving the chair a modern yet traditional look. The chair legs are also connected near the bottom with a round foot rest that has the same shape and look as the seating, which gives it and interesting feature and also suggests unity and perfection. This chair is available in Red lacquer, Barley-Stained Veneer and Chocolate Veneer and sells in pairs for $99.
