Creative boys’ room decor with hanging beds Posted: 18 Jun 2012 10:20 AM PDT When you're the parent of three boys and want to put them all three in the same room you have to get creative. It's exactly what these parents did. They wanted the boys to share the same room but the space was small and they couldn't find bunk beds or triple beds that would fit in there. As a result, they stopped thinking of the same classical clichés and decided to think out of the box. With such a small space to use, the only solution was to build hanging beds. The plans for the beds were slightly modified to suit this space. The beds are hanging from the walls and they also have metal hooks with rope hanging from them and bolts in the wall. They have been secured but you can never be too careful about these things so the boys also got strict instructions regarding what they can and cannot do in and around the beds.
Even though the room is small, the hanging beds clear up lots of floor space. The space underneath the beds can be sued for storage and the rest of the room can be used as a play area. The ropes were a very ingenious idea. Not only that they helped solve a big space problem but they are also interesting details themselves. The rest of the room is decorated with artwork created by the boys, a wall clock, a blue stool, a yellow lamp that matches the pillows and they're all colorful details that create a nice contrast with the gray walls and floor.{found on site}. “Colonie” – creativity & thoughtfulness Posted: 18 Jun 2012 08:30 AM PDT Following the concept of sustainability, the architect Alex Meyers of MA Design meant to build a restaurant using recycled materials; he put everything together with new products in order to acquire that rustic “barn house”. His creativity and vision resulted into something new and beautiful, an example of thoughtfulness that can be seen in the historical Brooklyn Heights neighborhood of New York City. Thus, Colonie stands for an always-fresh destination.Reclaimed wood was used for floors, ceilings and tabletops, the two banquettes in the front windows, just like the one along the left side of the dining room and the bar mirror, meaning antiqued glass encased in a frame, everything contributes to the general effect, that of a very cozy place where anyone can feel at ease. The steel beams that serves as a chandelier above the dining area gives a pleasant note to the entire atmosphere, just like the Edison bulbs bring warmth to the heavy steel, being at the same time industrial and charming.
But the bet part of Colonie is the open kitchen, with its white subway tiles, shelves stocked with dishware and piles of pots and pans above the stove; all these turn the bar seating into a desirable space. The communal dining table anchored by the steel beam that can be adjusted for parties provides the most important aspect, that of a cozy ambiance. The main intention is given by the design itself, as it evokes that unique experience of a large shared family meal and an urban barn-house.{found on yatzer}. Tiny but beautifully-renovated apartment in Gothenburg Posted: 18 Jun 2012 07:10 AM PDT This apartment is located in a 1928 building from Bagaregården, Gothenburg. It only has one room and measures 39.1 square meters. It's situated on the third floor in the three-story building and it used to have a rather old look. However, in 2011 the apartment was renovated and now features a modern, simple and very stylish décor. This lovely apartment is currently for sale at the price of 1.075 million SEK. It's a very bright apartment, filled with natural light and with a stylish interior. Despite the dimensions, the apartment seems very airy. It has wooden floors painted white as well as white walls and ceiling. It's one of the important reasons why it seems so spacious when it's actually not. The apartment only has a living room and a kitchen. The living area is spacious, very bright and very inviting. The décor is simple but elegant and modern. There's enough room in there for a bed/sofa, a couple of armchairs and plenty of storage.
The kitchen is also spacious. It has enough space for dining and can accommodate plenty of guests. It has windows facing the courtyard. The interior décor is also simple, bright and very clean and well organized. The work surfaces are made of concrete. There's also a brick wall that adds texture and color. The kitchen also has plenty of storage hidden inside built-in cabinets, open shelves and a large pantry. It has stainless steel appliances that were bought in 2011. This apartment might be tiny but it's very charming and would make a lovely home.{found on stadshem}. The ingenious Rinser Toothbrush Posted: 18 Jun 2012 05:28 AM PDT If there's one thing we all do in the morning it's brushing our teeth. It's such a common activity that we don't even question its validity or the way it needs to be performed. However, when asked, we could all sense that something could be done to make this activity easier and more pleasant. Still, it's very difficult to think of anything precise. That wasn't a problem for the designer of this ingenious toothbrush. In the morning we wake up, go to the bathroom, take the toothbrush, put toothpaste on it, brush our teeth, rinse and then leave. For the rinsing part we all have different methods. Some of us use a glass or their hand. Neither of those methods is very hygienic or pleasant. However, it's just the way thing are. At least they were until the Rinser Toothbrush appeared. This clever toothbrush features a tunnel carved in its handle. The water enters the tunnel and exists on the other side like a fountain. This allows you to easily rinse without even touching the water or needing a glass.
The Rinser Toothbrush has won the prestigious Red Dot Award and managed to reinvent the way we brush our teeth in the morning. When you think about it, the solution the designer of this item found is extremely simple. Nevertheless, it's a very ingenious idea and it's amazing that nobody else has thought about it before. The Rinser toothbrush it expected to be available in November but if you're too anxious to wait until then you can also preorder it now for $22. Rustic and Warm Berman’s Bakery by Studio Yaron Tal Posted: 18 Jun 2012 05:08 AM PDT When I think about bakery products, I already picture them in front of my eyes. Berman’s Bakery is among the bakeries that make you think and dream about its products. It is actually a store in Jerusalem; the work of Studio Yaron Tal that t was opened in 2011. Nothing compares to the industrial look, both rustic and warm at the same time. The flour bags were probably created especially and placed in order to provide that real and authentic look. All the displays were designed with a first intention that of giving credit to the main products: bread and pastries, but the emphasis is on maximum functionality to the user. The front of the store with its shop window presents the products in such a way that gives that perfect look, which increases sales and, at the same time, creates interest.
Not only the light, but also the way of disposing the products reveals authenticity, everything around having an own way of increasing your interest in buying the most appealing products. Everything looks so good, that you feel the need to take home at least one piece of the most attractive, if not of all products. Once you look at the window, it seems like you already feel that unique smell of tasty things that will make you remember a certain flavor. The entire space is an example of perfection and this makes everything even more inviting. The property dates back to the 1800s so it has a rich history and many interesting architectural elements. It benefits from a private location that allowed it to be preserved until now. This exclusive property includes a house with a surface of 294 square meters and a lovely yard surrounded by trees and it's currently on the market at the price of 12.5 million SEK. As you enter you can see the large living room to the right. It has exposed beams in the ceiling and windows facing two directions. This area opens onto a large kitchen. The whole ground floor has under floor heating.
Hand-forged staircase then leads to the basement, currently used as a wine cellar. The upper level of the house also contains a living room with windows facing the garden. There are also two bedrooms with large windows and a tiled bathroom with a bright décor. The property also offers beautiful outdoor areas such as the garden with a pond and a paved patio. Inspiring décor ideas for the entrance Posted: 18 Jun 2012 12:44 AM PDT The entrance to your home is the first thing anyone sees and the space that creates the first impression. It's important for this area to be as inviting and welcoming as possible. The entrance needs to be friendly and to offer a concentrated impression of the décor for the rest of the house and a glimpse into the actual interior. Depending on the type of home you have, there are different techniques and ideas that can be applied when it comes to decorating the entrance. 1. Decorating a porch and the entrance to the house. A very common technique is to use flowers. Plants and flowers can be used to create a very beautiful and refreshing first impression. You can either use planters or containers or simply hang pot from an arch and create a very colorful décor. If there are steps leading to your front entrance, then you can place plant pots to create a graduate and attractive décor.
2. Decorating a country house entrance. If you have a country house then you need to focus on creating a rustic and inviting décor. For the entrance, you can do that with natural plants and small trees. You can create a colorful mini garden that leads to the entrance of the house while also installing a very friendly atmosphere. And since you also have the space, you could also place a wooden table with matching chairs there and welcome your guests, invite them to spend some time outdoors and maybe have a drink before going inside. 3. Decorating the terrace. Another way of creating a welcoming atmosphere from the entrance is to transform that area into a terrace. You can have a covered terrace with a couple of cozy chairs, maybe a rocking chair and even an outdoor sofa. Add a matching coffee table and some fresh plants and the atmosphere will be divine. The terrace an also be uncovered, in which case you can simply take furniture inside when not used. Regardless of the space available or type of your entrance, there are a few important steps to take into consideration before starting the project. First take a good look at the entrance and try to see what people first see when entering this space. That should be your focal point of attention and should be the star of the décor. Also, try not to overcomplicate the design. Stick with simple but strong elements. When choosing the furniture, make sure the materials are suitable for outdoor use and that it's suited for the climate. Moreover, the entrance needs to have good lighting. The rest is up to you to create. 7 Clever Ways To Organize Ribbon Posted: 17 Jun 2012 11:42 PM PDT If you’re lucky enough to have an entire craft room for yourself or even just a little nook where you keep all your crafty items, then you know that the key to inspiring creativity is that you keep your tools organized! And of course this includes you collection of pretty and frilly ribbons! Crafters have tons of ribbon. Along with a hot glue gun and glitter, it’s a crafter’s staple piece. And if you’re a crafter with tons of ribbon then you know how messy it can get when you don’t have it all neat and tidy. They get tangled and lost …. and many yards of ribbon go untouched and missing. But with all these fun, nifty and stylish ideas … you’ll have all your ribbon organized and ready to use in a snap!
1. Use a dowel. Take each of your spools of ribbon and place them onto a dowel held in place by brackets. They’ll be easier to find and it’ll be easier to grab a piece of ribbon and snip it off to use for your next project. 2. Grab a basket. If you can find a basket similar to this make sure it includes all those tiny holes. That way you can sit two rolls of spools of ribbon and punch each thread through the holes so it’s easy to snag a bit. 3. Keep it in a drawer. If you’ve got a drawer … use it! It’ll keep your ribbon stashed neatly away and out of sight, but never so out of sight that it’s lost in the hustle and bustle of a messy craft room. 4. Hang them up! Another great way to keep clutter from out of sight but still at ease, hang the spools up! Grab a hanger with multiple bars (depending on the size of your needs) and slide them on! 5. Canisters work too. Take your ribbon off the spool and buy some wooden slotted clothes pins. Wrap the ribbon around each pin and store them in a cute canister for safe keeping.{picture from site}. 6. Store them with the straws. Find another use for that vintage straw canister! Double it as a place for your ribbons. It’s super easy and super cute. 7. Pack up the mess. Another way to use the canister, but still keep a pinch of creative chaos is to pack up the mess. Just throw all those extra yards of ribbon into a pot and voila! Nina Bergsten’s stylish Malmö apartment Posted: 17 Jun 2012 10:48 PM PDT This beautiful apartment belongs to passionate interior design enthusiast Nina Bergsten. The apartment is located in Malmö, Sweden and features a Nordic interior design with very beautiful and unique details. Its owner is very passionate about interior designs and takes everything very seriously. She would do almost anything to get the décor that she wants. In fact, she did make some unusual gestures when decorating this apartment. For example, Nina hired a crane and took out a window in order to get inside a marble table top. She really wanted that table top and nothing stopped her from getting it inside, not even its weight or the small doors. She also bought a beautiful mirror in Paris. It has exquisite details and an overall stylish appearance. However, there was one problem. The mirror weighted 60 kg and getting to Sweden intact was a challenge. However, Nina managed to solve that problem as well.
The attention to details inside this apartment is amazing. Everything has its place and seems to belong there. The décor is very bright and the atmosphere is airy and casual. As for the style, it's an eclectic creation that combines the functionality of modern items with the beauty of classics, the elegance of antiques and the warmth of vintage details. The result is a very personalized style and a very chic interior décor.{found on residencemagazine}. Contemporary Floresaca Lake Hotel in Bucharest Posted: 17 Jun 2012 10:00 PM PDT In Romania, the white, grey blocks of flats remind of the communist period when such buildings were constructed. They can be seen in almost every town of the country although lately the things have changed and many of them suffered some modifications. They were rehabilitated and colors became more vibrant. In Bucharest, on the bank of Floreasca artificial lake there is a white building which fits the surroundings perfectly but which has nothing in common with those blocks of flats mentioned earlier, although they can be seen around this building too. It is Floreasca Hotel, designed by a team of architects called Manadelucru. This hotel has a simple structure which consists of a double row of rooms on the higher levels but which have the ground larger than the basic prism. Thus the salons from the first level get a generous terrace .To the south side of the building there is a broken rectangle with large windows while to the north side there is a frame that runs around a buz shaped façade.
Although the budget did not allow some elegant additions, the building remains a contemporary construction with spacious interiors and a modern design. The public levels of the buildings are glazed while the rooms have individual openings so that everything becomes comfortable and pleasant for everybody who comes here. The materials are modern too, stone, metal and glass dominate the whole building. The black frames contrast the white color of the walls and seem to delimit some specific areas. It seems to be a pleasant and peaceful place where you can relax and enjoy your accommodation here.
