The flashy Dodo Flagship Store by Paola Navone

Posted: 17 Jun 2012 11:49 AM PDT

The Dodo Flagship Store is located in London and it's definitely one of the most eye-catching and unusual boutique shops in the city and probably all over the world. This is not the type of simple space that impresses with its minimalist and subtle elegance. It's rather the type that hits you straight on with lots of colors and flashy textures.

The most eye-catching elements in the store would have to be the ceilings and the walls. Instead of being covered with colorful paint or wallpaper, they feature extremely bright and glitzy textures further enhanced with the numerous lights. The style here is very unique and unusual. The design is evry daring and it's the type that you either love and are impressed by or hate and have nothing good to say about. Nevertheless, the store expressed perfectly the company's philosophy that places it in between hip and irony.

The Dodo Flagship Store was designed by Paola Navone and it's the largest boutique in the world. It stretches across three floors of retail space and, in addition, it also includes three floors of offices for internal use. The store is situated on the west side of Sloane Square. The building's façade was preserved but got some improvement, making the store very hard to miss. So if you're not scared of bright colors you should at least take a look inside. It could be a unique experience.

Knize-Mini Lamp

Posted: 17 Jun 2012 10:04 AM PDT

Geometrical shapes are perfect and they give you the impression of order and regularity, of cleanliness and style. You can find these shapes in nature, but they are rarely perfect. However, people like things that go anywhere close to perfection, so they like doing and making all kinds of things looking like these geometrical shapes. This is why you will find many items like this Knize-Mini Lamp. I honestly believed that was something else until I could see the light bulb. It is an unusual shape for a lamp shade, I admit, and this makes it all the more interesting.

The lamp is designed by Christiane Büssgen and Adolf Loos and is manufactured in Vienna. It is a totally unexpected lamp, with a metal lamp shade that looks like a ball that has many pentagonal facets. You can see the light bulb inside and the lamp stands on the table on one of the facets. The lamp shade/support is made of solid brass and its surface is varnished or nickel-plated. You can choose to have this made of another material, upon request. The maximum diameter of the “ball” lampshade is ø: 22cm (8,66inch). You can buy it for EUR 2.500,- / USD 3.149.

How to get a Professional Paint job at Home

Posted: 17 Jun 2012 05:25 AM PDT

Getting a professional paint job in your home doesn't mean you have to cough up a ton of cash and pay the pros to do it. Painting any room in the home can be daunting, especially if you are not an experienced painter, but you can paint any space in your home with ease, by following a few basic painting tips.

Choose Your Materials.

Having the right materials is the first step in getting a professional looking paint job. There's no need to go all out and spend a fortune on painting supplies, especially if you are only painting a smaller space and don't think you'll be using them again. Choose a few smaller brushes, as well as a roller brushes to paint over larger spaces more quickly and get to higher areas more easily. A paint tray and tarp covering for the floor are also important.

Preparing.

Proper preparing of the walls is crucial before painting, to get the most professional look. Besides stripping the room clean or at least covering up things in the room with a dripcloth to save them from any random drips of paint, wash the walls to remove any dirt and debris, and sand over any rough areas to smooth them out. Remove any doorknobs and hardware on the walls for a clean, bare surface to paint over.

Painting.

Use a primer over the walls to create a solid base for the paint to adhere to. You can use a separate primer product, or choose paint with a primer already mixed in. When applying paint onto the walls, take time going around corners and over edges, to avoid getting paint on the trim. Only run your brush over each space a few times, to prevent the paint from getting wiped off. Cutting across the ceiling and corners first, then taking long, broad rolls up and down large spaces with your roller brush gives the most even, professional finish.

If you make any mistakes, clean them as you go, rather than waiting until the end of the paint job. Paint comes off wall surfaces quite easily with a damp cloth if you remove it before it dries. On slick surfaces such as tile and glass, let it dry then remove it with a paint scraper or razor blade.

When you have these tips in mind, you can feel confident painting your own home and still end up with a professional looking finished paint job. Even if you have little to no previous painting experience, you can take on the task without your nerves taking over, as long as you know these few basic rules to stick to.{picture 2 from site}.

Ingenious wall storage unit made from milk crates

Posted: 17 Jun 2012 03:37 AM PDT

With a little imagination and creativity you can turn anything into an original item for your home. For example, something as simple and as common as a milk crate can be used to make a wall storage unit. Milk crates are actually often used to store all sorts of things, from kitchen supplies to records and documents. It's because they are modular and they can be stacked one on top of the other thus saving space.

To make a similar wall storage unit you'll need some milk crates, 3'' drywall screws, cone-shaped aluminum drywall anchors and washers of various sizes. You'll also need some tools such as a 1/8″ or 1/4″ drill bit, a drill, a level, a tape measure, and a pencil. Start by drawing a level line on the wall. Measure the same height in different areas and then connect the dots. Then used a speed square to take two 45º lines off of the level line.

Next, take a crate and drill into the wall with a 1/8″ – 1/4″ pilot bit through any of the open spaces in the bottom of the crate in two places. Then screw into the anchors. Now the first crate is installed. All you need to do next is decide on a design and add the rest of the crates. You can create multiple levels or an asymmetrical design. It's all up to you. For extra strength, you can tie the crates together through the handles.{found on instructable}.

Posted: 17 Jun 2012 12:10 AM PDT

We all dream about  the summer holidays during a whole year and we imagine the holiday villas where we will stay. But in this case, as it can be seen, the villa in the picture surpasses all expectations. It is a holiday villa impossible to forget or not to like. Malimbu Cliff is on Indonesia Lombok Island, an example of beauty, just like a real gem. Besides the ocean which provides the most spectacular view, the two huge swimming pools enchant and satisfy anyone.

Part of an exotic world, this holiday villa is surrounded by a perfect environment in green and blue that invites everyone to relax, enjoy everything around,  feeling at ease. Adjustable metal floor lamp

Posted: 16 Jun 2012 10:44 PM PDT

Floor lamps are great because you can move them where you need them and also you can place them right above the place where you need the light to be cast. For example you might need a lamp floor to coast a diffuse light during the night in order to make the corridor to the bathroom visible for the children. Or maybe you need the lamp only for reading something in a corner without disturbing the rest of the house. This Adjustable metal floor lamp can be even more useful in this respect. It is made especially with the purpose of letting you adjust its height depending on your needs.

So if you want to light the whole room you can make it taller and if you want to cast more focused light in a certain spot, you can make it shorter. That is why this lamp has adjustable metal legs. Its base that is actually made of four legs is made of Iron with high-polish nickel finish and the lamp shade is made of white polyester or cotton drum. The lamp height is adjusted by raising or lowing the lamp support just like when you open or close your umbrella. Any way, the lamps works properly with two 13W Compact Fluorescent light bulbs, but you can also use 60 watt ones. You can get it for $149 from West Elm.

Start People’s trendsetting office by Pinkeye

Posted: 16 Jun 2012 09:14 PM PDT

Start People, the second-biggest employment agency in Belgium, decided to take the lead by starting with a new office that would then set new standards for all the other companies. They started the collaboration with architecture firm Pinkeye and managed to design a flagship office with an innovative and inspiring interior.

The office has been designed in a way that should optimize workflow and that would also help launch the company to the top. It might the second-biggest but it's the first when it comes to efficient and functional offices. Start People now has a very futuristic-looking office in the minimalist way you would expect it to be. Their office is not very flashy and colorful but rather simple and stylish.  The ceilings and the walls are the most eye-catching but the designers managed to increase this image even more by using beautiful textures lots of lights and bright colors.

Inside the office, the designers created a social area. Here, the employees can come to meet visitors outside their workspaces and can offer them a more relaxing experience. It's also an element that helps them save time. There's a back area where the consultants can work without being interrupted by anyone. The main idea behind this design was to create a colorful and friendly environment. It's why the designers created those intimate coffee corners and hotel-like lobbies. As for the furniture, it includes casual chairs, bistro tables and very few decorations.

Happiness derived from a renovated kitchen by Loop Design

Posted: 16 Jun 2012 01:12 PM PDT

A baby's smile, a love declaration, a beautiful sun rise at the shore of the sea, opportunity to travel around the world and see incredible things ,the moment you find out that you become a parent or you decide to get married ,are special moments that make you happy and more accomplished. If you know to enjoy life and appreciate its every precious second you will have nothing to lose and you will find the happiness of being a human being.

The owner of the Austin, Texas home, who is a neuroscientist, believes that happiness derives more from what we experience than from things. Thus, the architect Chirsty Seals of Loop Design renovated his house based on his passion for cooking and entertaining, taking into account his believes. The result was an explosion of color and brightness, especially in the kitchen area where everything seems to reflect joy and entertainment. Here the cheerful colors and the natural light that invades the entire place create a wonderful space which will definitely generate many happy moments.

It is a large area where the fresh green nuances were used for walls and cushions while turquoise accents appear at the kitchen table, sofa and decorative items and underline more the freshness of this space. The light brown wood cabinets and shelves make this cooking area warmer and sweeter wile the steel surfaces or appliances add elegance and refinement. The glass balls from the light fixture that appears above the dining table creates a romantic and cheerful ambiance which will be perfect for any dinner that you can enjoy with your family or friends.{found on houseofturquoise}.

LED Wallpaper

Posted: 16 Jun 2012 12:11 PM PDT

Everybody knows what wallpaper is  and many people use wallpaper for decorating their homes. And the best thing you can expect from wallpaper is to be covered with a pretty cool and interesting pattern. You wouldn’t expect wallpaper to be the star of a technology and electronic exhibition. Well, I am talking about the very special LED wallpaper that was designed by the German Ingo Maurer and produced by teh German company Architects paper. This wallpaper is very special because it has a circuit board included on the back and this allows the LEDs direct contact with a power supply.

This way you can turn the LEDs on and off and they will light beautifully on the wall. The pattern on this wallpaper is a cube that is repeated in different positions and is lit using LEDs of different colours. This wallpaper comes in rolls of wallpaper of 320 cm x 60 cm, with five pattern repeats, that are populated with LEDs.

Each pattern includes 48 white, 60 blue and 60 red LEDs, a total of 840 LEDs with about 60 watts. The baseboard is made of alluminum and ballast and that combination makes it safe to use, as the wallpaper will not catch fire. The product was displayed in Ingo Maurer’s Munich showroom and until January 22, 2012 and won “Best of Best” Interior Innovation Award in January 2012.
