Fun, Adorable Batch of DIY Baby Mobiles Posted: 12 Jun 2012 10:07 AM PDT A baby’s nursery just isn’t a nursery until you’ve added a mobile. There’s just something so magical and special about a baby being stimulated daily by such a simple toy and in our case … home decor! Any theme and very simple ingredients can make a mobile shine. Think about what you’d like to create and get inspired! This is also a great opportunity to try your hands at a DIY project. It’ll come straight from the heart to your new baby and be a fun way to use your creativity. Just knowing that mom or dad made them something especially for them will mean more than they realize once they get older. So take this opportunity to get to work!
Maybe you have some extra scrapbook paper laying around (or you can go to places like Hobby Lobby and snatch paper for 10 cents a piece, such good deals!). Put all those colorful, patterned sheets to good use and make something. Look at this DIY mobile for example. The pinwheels will spin and the colors will have your baby’s mind going and add more color to the room! Or maybe you want something a little more whimsical. Try making these precious baby birds and your bundle of joy will be dreaming of her new flying friends. Instead of scrapbook paper, grab some cardstock for this project so the birds remain sturdier. And here is another paper adventure! This hot air balloon project is extremely adorable and doable. Great for a circus theme or a baby boy’s room filled with cars, trains, planes and every other type of transportation. This DIY is too cute not to try! Okay, now we’ve got to breakout the flowers! Using felt and buttons, this project is a breeze. Get out your glue gun, heat it up and get to creating! There’s nothing more relaxing than falling asleep to a rainy night. And this rain and cloud mobile may be just the trick to keep the crying at bay and induce more baby sleep at night! Butterflies are pretty! These ones are no exception. I love the lightness but voluminous feel of this project. It’s like there’s a swarm of butterflies that are coming to take your little one off for a little adventure. Take a peek at some more DIY baby mobiles for inspiration. Maybe you can grab an idea and create something original for you and your baby’s nursery! The Spectacular Six Senses Zighy Bay Resort Posted: 12 Jun 2012 06:01 AM PDT The Six Senses Zighy Bay is a unique resort and a luxury destination for all those who seek an exotic experience with unique culinary experiences. The resort is a very attractive destination because of its location and wonderful views but also because of other more terrestrial attractions such as the delicious food prepared by James Knight-Pacheco. He is the new Chef de Cuisine at the resort and responsible for the restaurants. In order to create diversity, the chef decided to introduce a new menu concept based on international recipes and with rich Arabic spices coming directly from the resort's organic garden. The guests will be able to choose from three or five courses with fine elements prepared by the chef and his team. As he declares himself, his food is "inventive, progressive and intelligent; combining customer desire with industry knowledge". Of course, you have to go there by yourself in order to judge whether or not it's as good as others say.
Besides the restaurants, the resort also offers spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. Guests can enjoy the unique landscape on the remote Musandam Peninsula, accessible from Dubai. They can travel there via speedboat ride, 4×4 over the mountain top or by air. Once there, they can find 82 rustic stone villas with private swimming pools and personal butler services as well as a very beautiful white beach with views of the Gulf of Oman. It's a luxurious destination that promises only the best. Stylish Majorcan retreat with a beautiful backyard Posted: 12 Jun 2012 04:59 AM PDT Holiday retreats or vacation homes don't need to be overly impressive with their interior décor. They need to be, first of all, casual and inviting. This Majorcan house is a great example for that. The house is surrounded by a lovely garden with fruit trees and it has a beautiful interior planned for both relaxation and entertainment. The house features thick stone walls that give it an imposing look. However, the interior is light and very friendly. Even though it's simple, there are some elements that make this home stand out. In terms of interior design, the most interesting elements would have to be the lighting fixtures from the dining room. They create a dramatic décor and give this area a very strong personality. Overall, the house features parquet flooring that adds warmth to the atmosphere. The interior is modern and very chic. The color palette is diverse but very pleasant and the decorations are tasteful and beautiful.
The connection between interior and exterior is very strong even though they are very different areas. The property has a lovely outdoor dining area with benches and tables. The garden is one of the main attractions. The property also has a pool with heated water. The deck is a lovely addition. Originally, the house had some moisture problems of the ground floor but those were solved with the help of some extra insulation, under floor heating and a renovation that opened up the spaces. Now this is a very pleasant retreat for family and friends.{found on nuevoestilo}. The Wood Finishes Fasano Boa Vista Hotel Posted: 12 Jun 2012 03:13 AM PDT Fasano Boa Vista is the latest creation coming as a result of the collaboration between Architect Isay Weinfeld, and restauranteur/hotelier Rogerio Fasano. They've also collaborated in order to create the Fasano Las Piedras hotel. You can read all about it on our site. This time we're going to focus on the latest addition to the Fasano hotel chain. The Fasano Boa Vista hotel is located in Sao Paulo. It's an impressive destination that stretches on more than 100 acres of native forest. It includes 15 lakes, stunning groves, am Arnold Palmer golf course and amazingly beautiful gardens. Despite its contemporary appearance, this unique hotel integrates beautifully into the surroundings. The hotel itself is a two-level building with a very interesting design. The building is shaped like a half moon. The public areas such as the lobby, the restaurant, the bar and lounge areas are all located in the middle. The suites are situated on the outer curves of the buildings, from where they can benefit from amazing views over the surrounding landscape.
One of the reasons why this hotel integrates so nicely into the area is because it's mainly outfitted with wood and stone, materials naturally found there. The hotel also has lots of large glass structures and huge windows that further contribute to the very close connection between the indoor and outdoor areas. This hotel is not just taking advantage from a unique and splendid location but it worships it with its entire design. Chic open space apartment in Costa Brava Posted: 12 Jun 2012 01:55 AM PDT It's very difficult to find the perfect balance for your home. For this, everything needs to fit and blend perfectly and to form a natural and harmonious composition. It's usually easier when you have an example to follow. This particular apartment would be a lovely model. Here, everything blends perfectly with the architecture and creates a perfect whole. The apartment has two levels. The interior décor features many customized pieces meant to add character to the apartment. For example, the living room features a very interesting table made from an old trunk and a billiard ball chandelier for diversity. Even though these are themes that don't seem to have anything in common, they blend beautifully. There's both continuity and contrast and they eventually result in a very smooth transition from one to another.
The apartment is located in Costa Brava and it was a project by architects Ignasi Miguel Moragues and Solsona Thomas Cotacero Architecture Workshop in collaboration with Construcciones Porfit. Each room has its own unique look. They also all share in common warm color palettes with neutrals and tones of brown. Throughout the apartment there are vertical glass panels that delimitate the areas and also distribute natural light. The lower level includes the dining room and kitchen. On the first floor there are three bedrooms with two bathrooms and a lobby. Overall there's an a very inviting and cozy atmosphere and the décor is elegant and casual at the same time. Matching Colors With Walls And Furniture Posted: 12 Jun 2012 01:00 AM PDT Have you bought furniture to furnish a room to realize it was the wrong color? Did you buy that rustic furniture at a department store, but discovered it was not suitable for the room? Did you waste time painting for the wrong color coordination? To some, mixing colors is inventive. To others, it is nothing but splashes of paint. The same goes with furniture. How the colors look palatable depends on the room and what colors you choose. You want to either match your furniture color with your wall color. Or you could even provide contrasting colors. It's good to experiment which colors work well together. One way is not to have entire surfaces as a whole to match, but parts of them match.
Unless your walls need a good paint job, it's usually easier to choose your furniture color than for the pain. Otherwise it would be ridiculous to keep painting your walls over several times just to decide on the right furniture (Yes, there are people who do that!). Focus on the color that dominates the room as the color scheme, and use that color for matching or contrast. Once you identify your color scheme, you can go shopping for your furniture or move furniture from other rooms to test it all out. Colors don't have to be exact, as that could be difficult to find duplicate colors to both walls and furniture. Slightly different colors are fine as long as they are not too distinguished. How you perceive the colors is your choice. What you do is figure out the colors deemed to catch anyone's eye and be picked up in a nearby location in the room. It could be the bookshelf or couch fabric with the wall, or the fireplace hearth with the set of dining chairs close by. This is also helpful for colors in a combination room. Your color match is not limited between walls and furniture. For a little more imagination, you may even use the floor colors to coordinate with the walls and furniture. In fact floor finishing can add to the color scheme, be it wood, tiles, or carpet. See how they contribute to the color scheme with adjacent walls and the furniture which sit upon them. All it takes is careful planning and rearranging of furniture with the colors belonging to the fixed environment and you'll soon have an attractive and colorful sight!{picture sources:1,2,3,4,5 and 6}. 40 Creative ways of re-using old suitcases Posted: 11 Jun 2012 10:00 PM PDT Suitcases are items you use whenever you need to travel somewhere. Usually, they are only used a few times a year. This is both good and bad. It means that they will serve you for many years to come as they deteriorate very slowly, but it also means that you'll probably have to change them sooner than you would want to because they will no longer be up to date. This seems like an inconvenient but it can be easily turned into something positive. Tables. Old suitcases that you no longer use can be transformed into beautiful decorations or even functional items and furniture pieces. They will be original and will also have a vintage feel very difficult to recreate. Let's see what you can create with old suitcases.
Given their dimensions and shape, old suitcases can make wonderful suitcases. They are practical and very original. Depending on your preferences, you can either create a low coffee table by simply attaching casters to the suitcase, or a tall coffee table, in which case you need to attach legs to a frame. The suitcase can serve as a top and it can also provide a practical shelf. You can either leave the suitcase as such or repaint it. In order to protect it, you can also add a glass top. You could also use old suitcases to create side table or even nightstands. Chairs and ottomans. Another great thing you can make out of an old suitcase is a chair or ottoman. Ottomans are very easy to make. All you need to do is attach four small legs or casters to the suitcase and some soft upholstery. You'll get a very cozy footstool or an extra seat whenever you need it. You can also skip the feet and place it directly on the ground. There are two options. You can either leave the suitcase as such or open it up to create a backrest. For the chairs the process is very similar. You would have to use taller feet. You can also make a comfortable bench. It all depends on your needs and preferences and also on the size and shape of the suitcase. Pet beds. You might not have use for your suitcase anymore but your pets would definitely be grateful if you would make them a nice and cozy bed out of it. This is a particularly fun project because you get to play with the design and come up with all sorts of ideas for decorations and accessories. An old suitcase would make a lovely bed for a cat or a small dog. You can add legs to the suitcase or place it directly on the ground. You would have to find a small mattress for the interior and a removable cover for it. You can also add scratching poles for the cats or screwing toys for the dog. Special trunks. An old suitcase could also be used as a storage trunk. You could transform it into a fully-equipped picnic case. You can attach straps to the upper part that would hold the plates, napkins, forks and other elements and the interior can be used to either store several other accessories or food, depending on what you're planning to take with you. The exterior of the suitcase can also be personalized for this occasion with collages and prints. You could repaint the suitcase or cover it with fabric. It's a great way to keep everything organized and ready for the occasion. Displays for cosmetics and jewelry. Old suitcases can also be transformed into original displays for your cosmetics and jewelry. Of course, they would have to be relatively small. This would a particularly fun project because you get to transform the suitcase and redecorate it in any way you want. You can use different types of fabric, maybe add some lights inside, even a couple of drawers if there's enough space. It would be like a small home for all your cosmetics and jewelry. You can beautifully arrange them and keep everything organized and you'll also an ingenious and original decoration for your home. Mini-cupboards. And since we were talking about storage items made from old suitcases, here's another idea. You can use a vintage suitcase to make an original cupboard. You can add shelves, hooks and anything else you want. You can use the cupboard to store books, cleaning supplies, maybe even glasses and wine bottles. Depending on your needs, you can create a clever storage unit for your home. The dimensions of the suitcase are also important. These mini-cupboards can be placed anywhere you need them and they are easy to include in any type of décor. If they don't, you can always redecorate them. Different ideas from old suitcases. As you can see, there are many different things that can be made out of old suitcases. These items can be placed anywhere in the house: in the bedroom, in the living room, in the dining room and even in the kitchen. Depending on your needs, you can transform them in almost anything you want. For example, you can use old suitcases as storage cabinets in the kitchen or as suspended shelves. You can also transform them into original planters that can be used both indoors and outdoors. It's all up to you to come up with ideas that work for you and your home. The Fusion Tables by Matthew Robinson Posted: 11 Jun 2012 08:40 PM PDT When faced with the challenge of coming up with an original and unique design, designers can find their inspiration anywhere. In some cases the resulting designs are very straight-forward while in other cases the users get the freedom to imagine what the inspiration source was. For these tables it's a little unclear what the trigger was. The Fusion Tables were designed by Matthew Robinson. They were actually his graduation project for the Leeds College of Art in England. He managed to come up with something different and eye-catching but not in a shocking way. Since the name doesn't really give us a clue as to what the inspiration was for this project, we are free to put our imagination to work. Personally I find these tables very delicious. They seem to be made of white and dark chocolate that just melts away and creates a delicious combination.
The Fusion Tables, despite their delicate look, are very strong and durable pieces of furniture. They are made from solid wood and they are made by hand. The differences in color come from two different types of wood: walnut and maple. The tables have a very friendly and cartoonish look. They are simple and they can only impress with their shape and natural charm. They were designed as a pair and would serve beautifully as coffee tables. They can either be used as a set or separately. Painting Tips: Fun Painting Patterns for the Home Posted: 11 Jun 2012 07:16 PM PDT When it comes to an interior paint job, you can stick to boring and bland, or you can try out a fun painting pattern for your home. If you want a more unusual, unexpected look, there are a few designs in particular which are worth considering. Plaid. Plaid is a more unexpected pattern, and it may look complicated but is actually quite easy to do. Keep in mind that the exact technique you need to use depends on what you want the finished look to be. You may want more or less space in between the lines, choose colors that are similar or contrasting for a more dramatic look. To create the plaid effect, start by painting the walls in one solid color. This will be the base color of the plaid design. Lightly trace the lines of the plaid pattern onto the wall with a pencil, using a ruler as your guide. Planning is crucial for a plaid design, to ensure you get the straight lines you want and save yourself from making mistakes when you start painting.
Using two separate paint colors, paint the plaid design, keeping the vertical and horizontal lines as straight as possible. This gives you the most crisp, clean finished look.{found on nesting}. Floral. For a more romantic look, try a floral design on for size. With a floral pattern, you can pretty much freehand it and do it by eye. Or use a pencil to lightly trace the design on the wall before starting. Floral patterns are pretty and interesting, whether added onto the walls in a little girl's room or on the ceiling as a focal point in the dining room. Be sure to use lots of bright, lush colors to bring the flower design to life.{picture found here}. Damask. The Damask design creates an elegant, luxurious feel to any room. Damask is often seen in wallpaper designs, but you can paint it on walls as well. Choose high quality paint with a glossy finish, to create the most luxurious look. Using stencils can be really helpful to recreate the Damask design, and you can find these stencils at most hardware and home décor stores. It can be a daunting task even just to get started painting in your home, but there's no reason you can't stand up to the challenge. You don't have to call in the pros and empty your pocketbook just to get a professional looking paint job, even when you're trying for a more unique look.
