Into the middle of nature inside Microsoft Vienna Headquarters Posted: 11 Jun 2012 06:10 AM PDT Man has always been in the middle of nature even from his ancient beginnings. Caves were his shelter, leaves were his bed or offered him food source. He cannot be separated from it and I do not even can imagine a world without trees, plants, insects, birds or animals. We were created to live in such an environment full of life. The new headquarters of Microsoft in Vienna, designed by INNOCAD Architektur sought to create a combination of physical, virtual and social environments where its employees could work relaxed and comfortable. It is a building surrounded by greenery and inside of it there are entire green walls which look like the reflection of the outdoor items. The floor to ceiling windows allow the people to see the green spaces from the outside and the natural light to invade the whole areas. Every room is large, the pieces of furniture are modern and have organic shapes which are inspired from nature elements.
There are some special rooms which make the whole work atmosphere really pleasant and relaxed. The wood meeting room where the wood floor continues with the same material lets you the impression that you are inside of a tree. The same pleasant ambiance is present in another blue and white room where the blue ceiling and the blue walls or the presence of the aquarium creates the idea of sea, or waves of a sea. The white pieces of furniture seem to look like some white shells so that the whole décor seems to send you straight to the white beach of a sea. Modular Brickbox Design Shelving System Posted: 11 Jun 2012 05:00 AM PDT Modular furniture is very practical and functional. It allows you to be creative and to make your own design but also to have a flexible item that can serve multiple purposes and situations. Brickbox offers you all that and more. This is a very ingenious storage unit composed of several separate boxes or compartments. Each individual piece can be used separately or in combinations of any number. The great thing about Brickbox is that it offers you the possibility to simply detach a certain box and move it somewhere else or change its position. This element comes in very handy when you need to move. You can just take the boxes one by one, put them in a truck or car, take them to your new location and reassemble them. You don't even have to empty the boxes because they serve as safe compartments. The boxes have standard dimensions and shapes. They are rectangular piece, made of wood and they feature two carvings on the sides that serve as handles.
Each box also has two small holes on the upper side and two very small "feet" on the bottom that can be inserted on the holes of the box beneath them. They form a large puzzle and they stay safe and secure until you decide to move them or disassemble them. Then they serve as carrier boxes. The Brickbox unit offers you great freedom. You can arrange the boxes any way you want. You can create your own design that would serve you perfectly. Posted: 11 Jun 2012 03:16 AM PDT It doesn’t get any more organic and natural than to decorate with rocks. There’s a certain zen, a certain precious, real feeling a space gets when you use nature’s creations as the focal point or ways to accessorize.I admit I was that little girl who would collect rocks. I’d go to flea markets and buy bundles, clean them and look up what exactly they were, what made them and learn as much factual information as I could about them. Luckily, I don’t go around picking up rocks and taking them home anymore, instead I’ve started to accessorize with them and buy some beautiful costume jewelry made with rocks instead. But if I did go around picking up rocks right from the backyard, I could decorate with them. I mean why not? It’s cheap and just as good as some of those weird nick-nacks we’re all bound to waste money on at some time or another.
1. Surprise with them. It really isn’t rocket science. All you have to do to “decorate” with rocks is find the right place for them. Up on the mantle or on a bookshelf lined with other pretty things is a perfect home for your piece of stone.{pictures found on b3homedesigns}. 2. Make art. Use this as inspiration to create something similar. Sporadic or lined up, rocks can create something really textural and edgy for your walls. And it’s easy! Just shine up those pebbles and get out the hot glue gun! (*You’ll probably need a shadowbox for this!). 3. Fill the pots. Small stones are great for filling up planters. Again, it’s a very organic feel that goes along with the plant’s naturalness without staying as dull as sand or dirt. 4. Doorstops. I must admit this is an obvious choice, but still one I love. And honestly, it’s rarely used anymore. Find some bigger rocks, whether stenciled, pressed or completely natural and use it to stop your door from closing. It’s really a lovely little find … just watch your toes, it’s quite easy to stub them on this!{found on martha}. 5. Display them. Yes you can use them in planters, but you could also display them in a glass candle holder or vase! It’s edgy and chic without all the fuss. 6. Throw them around. Scattered on a table or a tray, rocks create a bit of an adventure for your home. Cluster them together to create something different and something with an artistic appeal. House with corner modern fireplace and sliding glass walls Posted: 11 Jun 2012 12:40 AM PDT Nico Van Der Meulen Architects is a firm based in Johannesburg, South Africa. It conducted many projects including modern homes and they are all very beautiful. This one is particularly interesting because it has an eye-catching design both inside and out. The exterior is simple and mostly black and white. What's very interesting is the fact that two large volumes seem to be completely exposed to the outdoors. They have huge glass walls that create a very strong connection between the indoor and outdoor areas. These exposed volumes include the social areas. They have a very casual and stylish look. The glass walls are not just a means of connecting these two areas but also an element that lets in lots of natural light. Inside there are many eye-catching details. In the living room there's a very unusual "water window", an original detail that complements beautifully the whole modern-chic décor. The living room is actually smaller than expected. It's only one part of the social area and it has a comfy leather sofa with a matching brown rug, a minimalist floor lamp and contrasting red armchairs. There's also a contemporary fireplace that adds a very distinguished style to the décor.
The kitchen is a semi-open space. It has a kitchen island that can also serve as a bar or work space. The dining room has glass walls on two sides. However, the blinds can easily change the whole atmosphere in the room and even if the walls are covered the windows on top of them will still let in plenty of natural light. The master bedroom is very large and it even has its own fireplace. The whole house is impressive and a great example of modern architecture. Modern single-family in Coronado by Christian Rice Posted: 10 Jun 2012 11:34 PM PDT Spindrift is a modern building located in Coronado, United States. It was a project developed by Christian Rice Architects and it's a family development. The building is located in an area populated by both single-family homes and multi-family structures and it integrates perfectly into the surroundings. The Spindrift unit is composed of three structures. The reason for the three separate structures to exist was to preserve the scale of the nearby homes. It's a design meant to allow this development to integrate naturally in an area that includes lots of single-family homes but also multi-family structures and it does that very easily with its mixt structure. However, these separate building have a dual character. On one hand they integrate nicely in the area considering their use and structure but they also stand out with their modern and simple design.
The Spindrift development is surrounded by street on three sides. This means that each unit can be easily accessed from the street it faces and thus achieving an individual character. The unit is a great addition and it combines two types of homes and expresses the character of the area where it's located. Moreover, the buildings feature subterranean driveways and parking spaces. They include a private two-car garage and a private entrance for each residential unit. It's a compact structure ut each unit has its own character. You may go to get started though, and end up finding yourself slightly overwhelmed. Don't worry, because there are a few handy tips that will get you off to a good start, to create the ultimate summer style at your home. Clean Up. Before you start pulling out anything new, it's going to help clear your mind and help you start off fresh by cleaning up and getting rid of all the clutter. Clean up around the garden and yard, removing any debris and basically creating a fresh new space for yourself to work with. There are lots of gardening tasks you can get started on, from preparing the ground for sowing a lawn to sowing flowers you want to bloom this season.
Decoration. Decoration is always a big deal for summer. From a barbecue set to lots of seating space, you want to make sure you have a comfortable area where you and your favorite people can get together and enjoy one another's company. Posted: 10 Jun 2012 07:30 PM PDT Every piece of furniture is important and useful in its own way. But I feel like sideboards are among the most important pieces of furniture in the whole house because they are the home for your most precious things and also always within reach. Sideboards are supposed to always be there for you and offer you just what you need, when you need it. This Bubbles Sideboard is not only useful, but also very cool as design. It has three doors , so there are three different compartments in it where you can store your belongings. Then there’s the special design that draws everyone’s attention, with the dark “bubbles” on the front and also with the mirror behind. It is almost like seeing strange shadows against a mirrored wall. The legs are short, but sturdy and the inside space is large enough to store most of your trifles. This is part of the bubbles dining collections that has tempered glass at the top, making it look beautiful. The material of choice for this sideboard is Hardwood solids and veneers and mirror, of course. It is dark on the edges and shows style and elegance. The item can be purchased from Sitcom furniture.
