Pinwheel Ceiling Fan by Quorum

Posted: 09 Jun 2012 10:15 AM PDT

It’s summer now and the weather is perfect for this time of year. But every now and then it’s too hot and you want to cool the air in your house somehow. I have small kids, so I prefer not to use air conditioning because I consider it dangerous for their health. That is why I use a ceiling fan, which is both effective and fun. It is fun and perfect for the kids room because it is all colourful and nice, just like this Pinwheel Ceiling Fan by Quorum.

This ceiling fan is perfect for the kids room because it looks just like a pinwheel and kids love pinwheels. When you start it and it spins the visual resemblance is perfect. Each blade of the fan is coloured differently and the kaleidoscopic pattern of colors stimulates kids’ imagination. What is even more interesting about the fan is the colour choice. There are six blades and three of them are coloured in primary colours: red, yellow and blue. In between these primary colours the blades are coloured with the result of the mix of colours. For example green is between yellow and blue and so on. You can purchase the item manufactured by Quorum from Lumens for $238.

Creative tree decorations for kids

Posted: 09 Jun 2012 08:19 AM PDT

A very common thing to do when decorating a kid's room is to paint the walls or to use colorful wallpaper. There are many different themes that you can adopt. A very simple one and that's also easy to create includes trees. You can either choose wallpaper with tree images you can paint a tree yourself. Even though it seems like a very simple theme, there are lots of ways in which you can make it original and adapt it to your own home.

One idea would be to use stickers. They are very easy to apply and they can also be easily removed whenever you decide to change the décor. Stickers come in all shapes and sizes. The bad part about this element is that you can't really do anything to make it more original.

Another idea would be to hand paint your tree. This way you can choose the exact size, design and colors. You can either create something a little more abstract and maybe used white or black paint or opt for something colorful and innovative. You can also add flowers or little birds in your design. You can also opt for tree decals. You can use a stencil and make your job easier instead of hand painting the tree. There are lots of options to choose from and most of them are very accessible.

If you prefer something that's both functional and stylish, then you can opt for tree bookshelves. There are some very interesting pieces of furniture that adopt this particular theme and you can find of them on our site. You can also combine floating bookshelves with wall art and create a more complex design.

A tree coat rack can also be shaped like a tree. It's a useful piece and it can also serve as a lovely decoration. Moreover, you can use the tree as inspiration for all kinds of projects. You can create interesting wall art not just for the walls but for the furniture as well. If you feel particularly inspired, you an even include a real tree in your project.{pictures found:1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8}.

Trendy Color Combo: Pink & Orange

Posted: 09 Jun 2012 07:04 AM PDT

Pink and orange are probably not often thought of together as a color combination, because they are so close on the color wheel. However, these colors absolutely look great together, as evidenced by the many gorgeous design photos that I have curated for you today. Whether subtle or grand, adding these colors to your home shows a lot of zest and personality. From chic silk pillows to funky accessories, these homeowners know how to jazz up their spaces. See what I mean by checking out the design inspiration below.

The best part about this design is the fun and funky chandelier that ties in the fabulous pink and orange décor. I love the shape and structure of this light fixture especially. You can easily emulate this décor by searching for an old chandelier at garage sales or resale stores. Remember, a can of spay paint works wonders. Another great feature in this room are the orange pashmina scarves that drape over the chairs and provide a sharp contrast to the pink pillows in front of them.

This room has some great design ideas throughout. It essentially started as a blank canvas with white walls, neutral curtains, and a stunning mirrored dresser. Then, a bright pop of color comes out on the comforter and pillows, giving the room a jolt of fresh energy.

This room shows how well pink and orange work with green and yellow tones. A simple yellow dresser stands against a neutral wall with yellow undertones. The pillows on the bed are bright and fun, especially when set against the lime green headboard. Contemporary lamps and a modern bed frame allow the room to feel upscale even though it's youthful.

Look up in this room right when you walk in for a bright pop of color on the ceiling. There's just a little bit of orange in this design on gorgeous silk pillows that have pale pink undertones. Happy wall art and a hot pink pouf add character to the room. Additionally, these girls have superb storage space under their platform beds, a smart use of this small room.

This room is a great example of how simple artwork can impact a space. Anyone with a little bit of artistic talent could recreate the art on the wall. Then, just search for fun and fabulous accessories like the pink and orange bowl and colorful rug to complete the look.

I hope the above photos have inspired you to bring a little bit of pink and orange into your home. Especially in the summertime, these colors would provide such a bright, fun vibe in your home that everyone would be sure to notice as soon as they walk in the door. Remember, it only takes a little bit of décor to enhance your look. So, a few new pillows or even a bowl full of oranges on a pink placemat can add some life to your space.

An Old Auto Body Shop Transformed into a Live/Work Space

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 03:30 PM PDT

Sometimes it is hard to build your own house especially when you are not an expert and you are not the owner of a real fortune so that you can afford such a thing. The financial part is very important and the fact that you have not too much knowledge about building a house can also influence your project. Thus, here it is an example which may help make an idea of what you can do in case you are the owner of an old place which may become your home and working area at the same time.

The interior designer, Shirry Dolgin and the builder Boaz Siton managed to transform an old auto body shop into a live/work space. The idea was to create a space where they could feel relaxed when they were working and have a place of their own where they could rest after a long working day. Their jobs allowed them to do all the necessary changes, bring the pieces they needed and use their own style. The new space appeared to be dominated by a contemporary industrial style which offered them the perfect ambiance for a place which they could also use as a working area.

Thus they tried to combine the idea of home and work and all their pieces could have multiple uses. For example the dinner table could be used as a conference table and many other items had the same double use in their house. As their work was really important little space was left for the bathroom, bedroom or kitchen. They even built a wood slat divider to separate the areas of this huge space where many large scale pieces were introduced to fill it.{found on apartmenttherapy}.

Damasco Shower Curtain

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 01:40 PM PDT

Back in the ancient times and also in the modern times Damascus fabric has been well-known for its high quality and for the amazing design. It has been carefully and skillfully hand crafted by very talented craftsmen who inherited this knowledge from generation to generation. Damascus cloth is famous for its refinement and also for the rich texture and big nice flowery design. Well, people today are a lot more practical, but they still love beautiful things and they know to appreciate fine art. So that they tried to combine the two and they obtained something like this Damasco Shower Curtain.

It reminds you of the ancient Damasco curtains that used to embellish the rooms of princes and kings, but it comes with a strong dose of realism and pragmatism:it is made of vinyl. That can be explained by the fact that it is meant to be used in the bathroom, for separating the bathtub from the rest of the bathroom. So it’s a good thing it is made of plastic, as this makes her water proof and is also very easy to clean and dry. However, the design is spectacular and you will enjoy it. The item is now available on Zara Home for £17.99.

Victorian Duplex in San Francisco

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 12:58 PM PDT

In the Mediterranean countries all houses are painted in white in order to reflect the sunlight, but in other parts of the world people paint their homes in different colours, depending o their taste. For example this interesting Victorian Duplex in San Francisco is painted in black on the outside. But, despite the general belief that it is inhabited by all kids of freaks and that it looks scary on the inside, it is quite a cool house inside and you can see that from the pictures. The house is built in Victorian style and it is located in San Francisco, USA and was designed by Envelope A+D.

The duplex houses a studio on the first floor and the living room, kitchen and dining room are all on the second floor. Once you get inside this house you will see that things are a lot different from what you expected. First of all in San Francisco there’s no so much space that opens in the street, that is why houses are built mainly with the front door in the street and the rest of the house in the back , lined almost as if you were living in a train car. That is the reason why rooms look long and not very wide. But the interior design of this duplex is amazing and makes you forget about the details.

There’s a sweet and modern combination of colours, as the bathroom is painted in vivid red and comes combined with totally black tiles. Then there’s a pure living room with white walls and light blue furniture and also many other rooms that have beautiful antique furniture complemented by some modern accessories. The space is very well organized and that compensates for the narrow rooms, the white walls with some colourful prints or pictures on them being very helpful.

I can see a lot of home accessories designed by George Nelson and also some IKEA furniture, which is proof enough for the taste of those designing the interior. Any way, I think this is a great example of how you can combine a Victorian style house with modern style interior design.
