Atomic Mod Dish

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 10:42 AM PDT

Nowadays interior design is very important because people pay more and more attention to the way their homes look. They want their home to look at its best and they are willing to use different ideas and different tools. One fine idea they borrowed from the Japanese is the miniature garden that you can design and have in your home. This garden uses little pebbles and rocks, small trees and beautiful and soft sand and arranges everything on a round or square or even rectangular wooden framed “drawer”. But sometimes you can use a different special tool like this Atomic Mod Dish for a nice modern and interesting design.

This dish is made of metal and has a three legged support that is coloured in the same colour as the dish. You can arrange the interior of the dish in different ways depending on your inspiration with pebbles, plants, marbles and even colourful candies. This dish is designed by the famous landscape designer called Shannon Lester who comes from America and is manufactured by Steel Life company. The item is available in five different colours , all vivid and nice looking (Sky blue, Verdant Lime green, Citrine red, Citrus orange and Frost white). You can purchase it for $89.

How to Turn Your Bedroom Into a Romantic Retreat

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 10:11 AM PDT

If there is any one room in the home you want to have that romantic feel, it's the bedroom. Your bedroom should be your personal private space, where you can relax alone or with your partner after a hard day. Your room should never be cluttered or uncomfortable, and if your goal is to turn it into a romantic retreat, it doesn't have to take a lot of time or money to do so.

The bedding is one of the most important parts of any bedroom redo. This is true not only for the visual aspect, but also to provide comfort when you sleep at night. Stick with lighter fabrics and lots of layers for that soft, romantic feel. A silk comforter creates the look of elegance and luxury, whether you opt for a delicious chocolate brown color or opt for crisp white.

Feel free to add lots of decorative pillows to finish off the lush, welcoming feel in your bedroom. Think about the small things that make a big difference, like tassels on the ends of the pillows and quilting patterns, for a more luxurious feel.

Candles are a must-have if you want to create a romantic feel in your bedroom. Don't be sparse with them either. Incorporate candlesticks, candelabras, and everything in between. Even during the day when the candles aren't lit, they make all the difference and turn a regular room into an elegant, romantic space.

Without the right lighting, you can't create the ultimate romantic retreat. Besides the candles, which create the perfect dim environment, consider using textured lampshades or a dramatic chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Stick with low-watt bulbs for dim, relaxing lighting instead of bright, glaring lights that are going to do anything but help you relax. You can transform any lamp to give off a sensual, romantic feel simply by placing a thin, dark piece of fabric over the top of the lampshade.

There are lots of little extras that can help finish off your romantic new space. Add a stereo into the room so you can easily turn on some relaxing, romantic music when the mood strikes. Vases full of flowers, scented candles, special pieces in rich colors like red and gold, a soft rug; the seemingly smallest additions can make the biggest difference in your room.

To keep a romantic feel in your bedroom, don't forget to do away with all the electronics. There is nothing that takes away from the romance and relaxation more than a buzzing cell phone or email messages popping up on your laptop computer. If you just can't handle the idea of not having your must-have techno tools in your room, at least hide them away so they're out of sight.

With these simple steps, you can turn your bedroom into a romantic retreat and look forward to going to bed every night. Anything but boring, this helps you create a special place to spend romantic time with your partner, or just relax and kick back by yourself.{picture sources:1,2,3,4,5 and 6}.

Fresh and elegant residence interior design

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 07:57 AM PDT

It's difficult to find the perfect balance between functionality and style and it's even more difficult to do that when you have some specific in mind for the design. This beautiful house is a charming residence with a simple and casual look but at the same time with lots of elegant details and an overall fresh look. This two-storey property was the creation of Structures Building, a custom home builder out of Charleston, South Carolina.

The main colors that were chosen for both the interior and the exterior of the house are turquoise and beige. It's a very beautiful combination and here they were used perfectly. The façade of the house has a classical look and it immediately gives us a hint for the color palette used throughout. The interior is very charming. It's very charming and relaxed but it's also elegant and chic. The main living area features a lovely fireplace, turquoise walls with matching armchairs and wooden furniture that creates a beautiful contrast.

The bedroom is particularly charming. It's very cozy and it features a very beautiful combination of light brown, turquoise and beige. The walls have a latte color that goes perfectly with the lighter turquoise armchair and the matching bedding and curtains. I think we can all agree that on the inside the house is very charming and beautiful. But its owners can also relax outdoors. Of course, the porch is stunning and very relaxing but there's also a beautiful outdoor dining area that completes the whole package.

Minimalist New York apartment with a beautiful open space

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 05:42 AM PDT

Minimalist interiors are very appealing. They impress not with their flashy and bold details with the beauty of their simplicity. This New York apartment is a wonderful example for that. This apartment is located on the Upper West Side in Manhattan, New York City, USA. Originally, it had an internal structure that wasn't exactly what its owners wanted so it had to be reconfigured. This was the job of StudioLab that also created this beautiful interior design.

This is a prewar apartment that originally featured two units that were then reconfigured into a large three bedroom structure. This also meant that the initially dark areas had the potential of becoming bright and light-filled. The result was a non-traditional layout. The bedrooms were moved to the west wall and the living room and kitchen were moved to the south where they could benefit from more natural light coming from the large window.

Overall, the apartment features wide-plank grey-washed walnut flooring that further contributes to the airy and bright atmosphere. After the renovation and reconfiguration, the apartment also got a concrete cube representing the office. This area is enclosed by two large sliding Starphire acid-etched glass doors for more privacy. There are many storage units throughout the apartment and LED Cove lighting used in the main living areas. The master suite is spacious and features a walk-in closet and a large bathroom with under-floor heating and a custom steam shower. Overall, this is a very smart apartment with a minimalist and elegant interior.

Tips for Creating the Perfect Outdoor Living Space

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 04:54 AM PDT

Often homeowners find one of the most challenging home decorating tasks to involve the outdoor spaces. You may be a pro at planning the design of the interior of your home, but when you get started with the exterior you may find yourself at a loss. There is no need to get frustrated over this, and any outdoor space can be every bit as easy as any other, with a few helpful tips in mind.

Get Your Budget Sorted.

Before you get started, you have to get your budget sorted. As with any other home decorating endeavor, it is always important to be aware of how much money you can freely spend, without overspending. This saves you from going through panic mode after it all, and allows you to enjoy your new space without feeling bad for spending so much money.

Take into consideration the size of the space you are working with, and also any particular pieces you want to purchase to add to it. Whatever you feel comfortable spending, as long as you have a basic budget set out for yourself, it definitely helps things and gives you a figure to stick to.

Decide on the Mood.

Decide on the mood of the space. You may prefer to make it a private outdoor space where you can relax alone or with your partner. Or maybe you have a larger space and love to entertain, putting the focus more on creating a space ideal for a group setting. Whatever the case, before you start buying random pieces to add to the space, you need to figure out what end result you are aiming for.

Scenery.

Having nice scenery in an outdoor space is very important. You already have the beautiful scenery of outdoors, but it is nice to add pieces that bring the space together and give you and your guests something interesting to look at. You may prefer to add a gazebo, water element, or fire pit, or maybe a game table if you enjoy playing games with friends and family and want to incorporate that into your outdoor space.

Comfort.

Comfort is always king for any outdoor space. Ensure there is adequate seating for the number of people you plan to have enjoying the space with you at any given time. Choose furniture in fabrics that are comfortable, but also weather-resistant so they last, even through bad weather.

It is always reassuring to know that it does not have to be a huge hassle to create the perfect outdoor living space. Even if you are working on a tight budget, you can create a dream outdoor space that is enjoyable for you and your guests. When the weather is nice and you want to gather outdoors, an outdoor space is the perfect place to go. You get your privacy, the delightful fresh air, and have a comfortable space to spend time with friends and family.{picture sources:1,2,3,4,and 5}.

The exchange restaurant interior design in Singapore

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 03:49 AM PDT

Certain types of people prefer certain types of restaurants and bars. It's not something to be judged but rather observed. This particular restaurant is located in Singapore, in an area predominantly frequented by bankers, lawyers and other persons with similar jobs. Given this fact, the designers of this apartment decided to come up with something that would really speak to its guests.

The restaurant was called "The Exchange". It's a 5000 square foot Grand Bar & Brasserie and it's situated in the Asia Square development. The designers chosen for this project were Designphase dba. They were asked not only to create an original interior design but also a place with identity, where people could come and feel comfortable but that would also speak to them at a professional level. The result was this modern restaurant with a metropolitan feel.

The Exchange restaurant has a modern design with an office-like feel. It's not a typical elegant restaurant but rather a themed space that can easily make certain people feel very comfortable but can also intimidate those who are not familiar with this sector. It's an informal space to have breakfast, coffee, lunch, dinner or a drink and it has a simple and colorful design.

7 Tips & Ideas To Organize Your Closet

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 02:57 AM PDT

We’ve given you the run down on stylish closet organizers and now it’s time to put them to use with some tips on how to go about organizing your closet, and not just using the cute contraptions.

Again, even after a huge spring cleaning of throwing out old tops and using all the right hangers, it takes about two days for your closet to get back into that wretched, cluttered, messy abyss. You can't find anything and the more you look … the worse it gets. Well, that's where organizers come in. but more importantly it’s where the organizing comes into.

Check out these 7 tips and ideas to organize your closet and in no time you’ll have a super neat and tidy space!

1. Get rid of old clothes and everything else you aren’t using.

If you haven’t worn it in 6 months, then it’s time to put it in the trash or give it to a nearby Goodwill. If you’re not wearing it, someone else will. And if you’re not wearing it because it’s so ratty and worn, then just be rid of it! Don’t allow excess clothes and trash to take up space in your closet. You don’t need your closet looking like this anymore, so leave the excess behind.

2. Keep the most-used items in sight.

Your favorite t-shirt and pair of jeans should be easy to find. Make sure your favorites and most-used items are in plain view and easy to get to.

3. Color & type coordinate your closet.

Another way to easily put together outfits and find specific pieces of clothes would be to color & type coordinate the closet space. And it looks super stylish too! Green blouses go with green blouses, black pants go with black pants … it’s simple and an easy way to create organization!

4. Store out of season clothing.

This is a good option for those with smaller closet space and more clothes than it can handle. During the summer months, store your big bulky sweaters in boxes or baskets. And vice versa for the colder months. It’ll be better organized and create more room.

5. Use one type of hanger.

Again for a neater, tidier look .. try using one type of hanger. All wood, all fabric, all wire … it make for a more consistent visual.

6. Create space for your accessories.

Belts, shoes, handbags, ties … they should all be thought about and safely tucked away. But they need to be easily found and not placed in an area where you’ll never find them again. Hang belts on hooks, use cubbys or racks for shoes and use shelf dividers for purses!

7. Fold nicely.

For garments that can get ruined by being put over a hanger, fold them. Sweaters and some pants should be neatly folded and stacked by type and color.

Beautoful Nevis Pool and Garden Pavilion by Robert M. Gurney

Posted: 06 Jun 2012 12:15 AM PDT

This beautiful pavilion is located just outside of Washington D.C. and it's more than just an extension to the living and recreational areas. Called a pool and garden pavilion, this structure creates a connection between the nearby forest and the pool and its terrace. The site is very beautifully located. It has the forest on one side and beautiful gardens with tall areas surrounding it from every other angle.

This pavilion was designed by Robert M. Gurney. It's situated close to the pool and it serves as an extension of the living and entertaining areas. It's a multipurpose space that can be used as a semi-outdoor lounge area, a guest house or a private space. It features beautiful gardens on one side, the pool on the other and the forest behind it. The image is indeed unique. The pavilion is quite small and it looks like a miniature house.

It has a compact shape, both indoor and outdoor areas and a very beautiful stone fireplace. The shape of the pavilion places it somewhere in the area of contemporary architecture while the tall stone fireplace gives it a more traditional look. The interior of the pavilion is simple, modern and has a flexible décor. This allows it to be a multipurpose space and to be the perfect choice for a variety of activities.

Five Energy Savers You Have To Build Into Your New Home

Posted: 05 Jun 2012 10:50 PM PDT

You're building a new home and you want it to be energy efficient, cheap to operate.  Getting there can be confusing because vendors are trying to sell you everything from solar panels to geothermal heat pumps.  And that stuff is not cheap.  But building a tight house can be easy if you concentrate on the following five areas.

Insulation:  There are three basic types—batt, cellulose and foam.  Batt is the Pink Panther insulation stuffed in between the studs and joists and it is the cheapest.  It is also the least efficient because of gaps and is often badly installed.  Cellulose is basically shredded paper treated with boric acid.  It is blown in the ceiling and the walls wet.  The final type is foam and the most expensive.  Each type has advocates and detractors.  After a lot of research we went with cellulose.  The cost quotes worked out like this for our house–$8,500 for batt, $11,000 for cellulose and $15,500 for foam.  We are very happy with the cellulose.

Windows:  The thing you need to know here is LoE, or low emissivity.  Don't ask about the details, it is all science.  Just make sure your windows are rated LoE and this can be found on the energy label.  Go for quality but don't go overboard.

Doors:  Same as windows.

Heating and Cooling:  One of the major expenditures for your new home will be the HVAC units.  Use common sense and do some research.  In Texas we have real heat so the SEER rating on the air conditioner has to be good.  Good but not necessarily the very best.  A SEER factor of 13 will do.  You can do more but my analysis showed for each one-point increase, say 13 to 14, in the SEER rating I was going to pay about $1,000 and get savings of only about $70 per year on that investment.  That is a payback of over fourteen years and I have better uses for my money so a SEER of 13 worked great.  My highest monthly electric bill for a 4,400 square foot house was $235.  That is efficient.

Plan:  Do some common sense planning like bedroom placement.  If all your bedrooms are upstairs, get two HVAC units—one for upstairs and one for downstairs.  Place your windows where they get less sun.  Ask your architect or house planner for help with this.  You can do it before you build but not after.

The key to energy savings is planning and investing in good, but not necessarily the best, materials and components.Solar may be the future but windows, door, insulation and efficient HVAC units are the present solutions to today's high-energy bills.{picutre sources:1,2,3}.

Renovation Project by Haiko Cornelissen Architects

Posted: 05 Jun 2012 10:12 PM PDT

The interior of Wall-All apartment, located in Jackson Heights,Queens,U.S.A. was designed by Haiko Cornelissen Architecten. Actually, the project is a renovation, as it expands the most important spaces by compressing the less used ones into the apartment’s walls. Thus, the functions of  office, library and kitchen were compressed in the walls in order to make space foe the living room that doubled its original size.

The result is a new way of bringing the old apartment in tune with a contemporary lifestyle, in fact a rich diversity of comprehension methods. What is perfect is that this result proved to be the answer to the needs of today, meaning increased spaciousness and efficiency and everything seems to stand for that. Taking into account the fact that everybody dreams about gaining as much space as possible in the most efficient way, the Wall-All apartment is definitely a great solution, a successful result.

It is interesting the way in which functions important as those of office, library and kitchen were used in such an intelligent, modern and attractive manner. Nothing compares to the feeling you have when you feel at ease, when you have enough space at home in order to arrange things in a simple and practical way, to feel comfortable. The black and white provides a perfect contrast, simple, elegant and modern at the same time. Every little thing is in the right space and nothing compares to the warmth felt once you enter this unique space.
