Fisher Island Drum Pendant

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 08:57 AM PDT

Music has always been a part of men’s lives and ever since they can remember, they have made musical instruments out of all kinds of things surrounding them. And one of the most important instruments in an orchestra , in my opinion, is the drum, because it keeps the tempo and marks the rhythm. No wonder designers from different fields have found their source of inspiration in the shape of the drum – like this beautiful Fisher Island Drum Pendant that is made to look just like a drum that is hanging from the ceiling.

It also carries the name of Fisher Island, a beautiful island in California, both hints giving you an idea about the inspiration and feeling the item suggests. The cylindrical shade that resembles a drum is placed on top of a nice metallic support with four legs. You can choose between a Merlot Bronze, or Satin Nickel and you can also choose the size of the lamp between large and small.

A very nice feature is that you can choose from a wide variety of fabrics for the lamps shade, so that you can match it with the room design and also the furniture in it: Ivory Fabric, Natural Grasscloth, Safari Fabric, Walnut, or White Grasscloth. The tiem is available now on Lumens and the price may vary between $368.00 – $806.00, depedning on your choices.

Farmhouse turned into holiday residence by Bergmeister Wolf Architekten

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 08:06 AM PDT

Somewhere in Sterzing, Italy, in a little village 1.400 meters above sea level, used to be a farmhouse. With time it began to shatter and at one point it was unsalvageable. However, from the ruins a new holiday residence appeared. It belongs to the Brunner family and it was completed in 2011. Both the farmhouse and the old oven from the site were demolished. A new structure took their place and this was the project of Bergmeister Wolf Architekten.

Even though this was a recent project, the client wanted to make this holiday residence seem like it's been part of the landscape for a long time. The architects managed to do that by introducing a very beautiful exterior design.

The house seems to be made of stone and this allows it to naturally integrate into the landscape. Given the location of the site and its form, the architects had to adapt the design to the natural conditions. The new structure was integrated into the landscape without changing the topography. This way the site preserved all its natural beauty.

Even though the old farmhouse had to be demolished, its ruins were priceless. The architects managed to integrate them into the new design. What was once old became new. The stone walls are also a feature that belonged to the old farmhouse. The rest of the structure was carefully rebuilt with traditional materials. The rest of the materials, such as the shingles, were first exposed to wind and weather for one and a half year in order to achieve the weathering that would allow them to be made part of the design. The new property is somewhere in between old and new and it's a very beautiful combination. It has a rich history but it also marks a new beginning for its owners.

How to Design the Perfect Family Room

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 07:23 AM PDT

The family room is one of the most important rooms in any home. This is where the family gathers and spends most of their time together. Especially when you consider the digital world we live in today, where everyone is so busy with their own life and families hardly even have time to see each other through the day, the family room is the perfect place to chill out and spend time together.

Color Scheme.

One of the first steps to designing your family room is coming up with a color scheme. These are the main colors to be used in the design, and depending on what mood you are going for, the choice of colors can be very different. If you want a bold, dramatic look, choose contrasting colors that set each other off and create a bright, modern look. To keep it softer, use neutral shades like tans and beiges to create a more relaxing, low-key feel to the room.

Entertainment.

Of course, most of the time in the family room is spent socializing and spending quality time with one another, but that does not mean it always has to be sitting around the table talking. It is important to incorporate entertainment in the room, to give the family something to do to have fun and enjoy one another's company.

This could range from a home movie theater or video game system, to arcade machines or a poker table if you and your family enjoy playing a game of cards now and then.

Personalizing.

Personalizing the room is very important. Because this is such an intimate space for your family, it only makes sense to represent that in the design of the room. Add framed pictures of family members, some art pieces on the wall, or fun DIY crafts to bring life into the room. There are so many fun, easy ways to personalize a room and make it your own.

Designing the family room in your home should not be a challenge, but rather fun and exciting. This is the room that brings the family together, so the most important thing is that you create a warm, enjoyable, comfortable space. Whatever it is that you feel works for your family room, by sticking to these basic guidelines you can create a wonderful space for the whole family to enjoy.{picture sources:1,2,3,4 and 5}.

Company Cotton Chunky Bath Rug

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 07:03 AM PDT

I love walking with my bare feet in the overgrown grass – it feels so relaxing and nice and you feel close to nature in an amazing bondage. But since I now live in the city between concrete walls I have tried to find the next best thing for a long time. Well, I have. The closest feeling to the grown grass on my feet is when I wake up in the morning and rest my feet on my comfortable and nice Company Cotton Chunky Bath Rug. It is soft and nice to touch, really pleasant and made of the finest quality cotton.

This bath rug is made in Turkey, a country with a long tradition in bath items and this alone is a quality certificate. The rug is really thick and , since it is also made of cotton, is really absorbent, so perfect for the bathroom where there is usually moisture. That is why the rug has a non-skid backing that will make it stand still and prevent it from slipping on the wet bathroom floor. The rug can be washed in your washing machine and is available in many colours. It is a luxury item and can be combined with similar towels. The product can be purchased for $25.99-$52.99 from the Company Store.

Top 10 Tree Houses Design Ideas

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 05:40 AM PDT

You would think that tree houses are just for kids; a place where they could play or form a "gentlemen's club". In this post we will see a different kind of tree houses and I won't take more of your time; let's get straight to them. This first tree house is nothing like you would expect to see.  It is a miniature apartment in which you can spend your weekends far away from the crowded city.  If we look at it from the outside, this tree house appears very tiny, but as soon as you step in the entire perspective changes.

1.Eco Perch Tree  House.

It has a marvelous interior featuring a kitchen, bathroom with a shower cabin, a separate bedroom with suspended beds and a twin bed in the main chamber. Beautifully decorated this can be inhabited any time you want. It is actually very nice and cozy, perfect for a weekend away with your sweetheart.

2.Tree house in Camp Wandawega.

This next tree house is located in Camp Wandawega, Elkhorn, Wisconsin and is a true adult-size location. This design is more easily recognizable because it looks like the tree houses from our childhood. Although this place is made in a very chic spirit I don't necessarily like it. I don't like the interior very much, I would want more privacy and probably a different object placement; but hey is not my design and given the circumstances they actually did a pretty good thing in that tree. The most interesting thing though, is the chandelier made from sheds found locally.

3.Japan tree house cafe shop.

This is literally a tree house. It is located in Japan and above a Banyan tree a small place functions as a restaurant. This huge tree supports the entire construction that was so ingenious placed between the large branches. The access is made through a spiral staircase in the back and an elevator inside the trunk. So next time you think of a tree house, take this one as a place to start.

4.Rustic tree house office.

The luxury segment has also a representative location for us today. It was built by Blue Forest around a tree and currently functions as an office. Taking a look in the interior you will why this is a luxury environment; from the marvelous floor, walls and ceiling this place is wonderful in every aspect. Very intimate, it has heating, lighting, phone lines and high speed internet connectivity, perfect if you want to set new standard in office environments. The coffee break has whole new meaning on those marvelous terraces in the middle of nowhere.

5.Normal tree house.

A tree house that looks like a normal on the ground house is something you rarely see. TreeHouse Workshop builds them and they are looking more than great, not to mention that offers great versatility and marvelous interior spaces with all the appliances you may need, a fireplace, desks, cabinets , kitchen countertops and so on.  But having all that in a place like that doesn't bring the tree house joy. I mean a tree house is built to escape from the usual, common. I think this particular tree house doesn't really offers you that particular thrill. {found on seattletimes}.

6.Treehotel.

A tree house is a common term from our everyday life, but a tree hotel, not that much. In Sweden there is one and has only four rooms: the cabin, the blue cone, the nest and the mirrorcube. This last piece will reflect everything, the trees, the birds, the clouds, sun, everything so is very hard to spot it in the forest. There is a special film applied on the glass so the birds can see it and not crash into the "room". The entire idea focuses on perfect integration into the environment.{found on designboom}.

7.Yellow treehouse cafe.

This unique construction is the Yellow treehouse café and is located far in the New Zealand's woods. It has nothing to support it except the redwood tree, is 10 meters wide and is made entirely from sustainably materials like laminated pin fins and timbre trusses. The shell-like design sits beautifully around the tree and has a great deck from where people can enjoy nature and a drink.{found on inhabitat}.

8.Another tree house.

The tree house offers a very comfortable answer for the nature enthusiast everywhere. The reason most people like is the simple fact that provides an escape in the wild and is not like camping, neither like staying in a hotel; is the perfect place to enjoy nature half way between the ground and the sky. You just can't live any closer to nature that that.{found on apartmenttherapy}.

9.Dream Hatcher.

Another type of tree house caught my attention. This thing looks like an egg on a stick.  It combines indoor and outdoor living facilities. Inside there isn't much space but is more than necessarily for resting after long mountain hikes. It offers the best view over the surroundings through generous windows and in the morning you can brag about yourself that you just hatched.{found on dwell}.

10.4treehouse.

Well, that's new! At least something I have never seen and I believe that neither a lot of you folks. This will definitely catch your attention it happens to wonder along in night time by the Lake Muskoka, Ontario Canada.  From a certain perspective this tree house looks very similar to a Japanese hanging lantern. The inside offers a great view over the surroundings and towards the thick leaf blanket above the house. Nice design, I like it!{found on inhabitat}.

This is about it. I have selected a wide range of house designs to show that are many possibilities of building a tree house. You have seen luxury, minimalism, mirrors, but it doesn't really matters how the tree house is made as long as it offers the tree house feeling; that special chill down your spine that means freedom.

Corner base cabinet carousel

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 05:17 AM PDT

I am not a big fan of huge houses , especially when you do not have a big family, because a huge house also means huge expenses and someone to always keep it clean. So I think it is more important to have a smaller, but organized home. That is why I try to keep mine as organized as possible, I mean to keep all the stuff I need within reach, but also not in the way. This is the secret. That is why I have always believed that storing items are really cool. Look at this Corner base cabinet carousel from IKEA! It is perfect. It will help you organize all the items you need in a bathroom and at the same time keep them in plain sight.

But the most important feature of this useful item is the fact that is uses the corner space, which would otherwise left unused. This can save a lot of room and by taking advantage of it you also save floor space. The cabinet is actually a double shelf that is made of metal and which is not covered, allowing you free and instant access to the items stored there.

Each shelf is made of laminated particleboard and they both swivel, so that you can reach anything from any angle. The tube connecting the two shelves is galvanized and made of steel, so perfect for the bathroom, as it will not be deteriorated by moisture. The shelves are covered by melamine and this will protect them from scratches. Anyway, the product is really useful and available from IKEA for $99.

White Misewell Tokyo_II Table Lamp

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 05:00 AM PDT

Cartoons are very appreciated and watched although we refer to kids or adults. Both categories seem to be fascinated by the funny characters that do all kinds of amusing stuff or pass through all sorts of adventures .Kids love the colored animation, the funny noises and the cute characters that appear on the screen. The adults seem to appreciate more the quality of the graphics, the way characters look or the celebrities that give life to these cartoon characters.

White Misewell Tokyo_II Table Lamp looks like a funny cartoon character. Its oatmeal fabric shade looks like a nice head of a cute creature, while its powder coated aluminum neck and powder coated steel base represent its thin body and two funny legs. Its cute design, created by Vincent and Paul Georgeson reminds me of Pixar cartoons which were one of my brother's favorite types of cartoons. He made a passion of them and he had many series of them on his computer at home. Although he is a young man, at almost his thirty, he is still like a child in love with his favorite cartoons.

This lovely white table lamp is perfect for any table, office desk or nightstand. It does not take too much of your space so that it is very appreciated for its tiny and thin appearance. Misewell Tokyo_II Table Lamp was made in the USA and for a special price of $244.00, it can be yours. It will offer you the necessary amount of light that you need for all your activities and will create a lovely and warm ambiance which will make feel comfortable and nice.

Multicolored wool striped rug

Posted: 03 Jun 2012 11:33 PM PDT

Some years ago I used to spend my winter holidays at my grandparents in the country side. Since the weather was harsh, with cold winds and a lot of snow I was playing in the house, watching my grandmother who was working at different things. One of the things she loved to do was creating her own carpets and rugs. She was using natural wool materials of various colors and everything was hand made. Even now she keeps all these things made by her hands in a special room where you can see some other things made by her.

These Library Rugs remind me of my grandmother's carpets who used to combine all sorts of colors and patterns in order to create attractive items. Stripes were also present like the ones which appear on these Library Rugs. Nuances of gray, yellow, black and red bring color and make them more pleasant. Their high quality is provided by the 100% New Zeeland wool.

If you are in interested in such great Library Rugs, you need to know that they are available in five different sizes. You can use them for your office room, bedroom or living room. The stripes offer them an elegant design which can match any area. The fact that they are hand tufted in India is considered another quality of them which make them more appreciated and preferred. Those who love to have an elegant and fine quality rug will definitely think of these nice Library Rugs which will make their interiors look more attractive and comfortable.Available for 799$.
