Whiteness and simplicity in a Stockholm apartment Posted: 28 May 2012 07:25 AM PDT Dan’s apartment is for sale, so if you live in Stockholm and you are fond of whiteness, thus simplicity and elegance, this is your chance!Another aspect that might be interesting for you is the location, apparently in the block where the Millenium movies were shot. The whiteness not only creates a calm and serene atmosphere, but it also gives the impression of a wider space. Actually, the apartment is small, but what is impressive is the character and the fact that it isn’t overcrowded. If you take into account the fact that it is as the best Scandi homes are, meaning white and you realize that you can simply turn it exactly the way you want. There are some splashes of color from place to place, like the orange modular sofa that animates the place. Probably the most obvious aspect is the presence of some touches of nature all around the house, no matter they are on the wall, at the entrance or on the floor, the horns, the tortoise shell provide a personal note to the entire flat. The wooden pieces, the flowers, the guitar make everything more pleasant and inviting.
The kitchen is modernly equipped and the house in general has everything you need in the place where you live. The paintings on the wall, the colorful pillows on the sofa have their role of enriching a generally calm and relaxing atmosphere that seems to tell a story like no other. Dan’s apartment is among the kind of apartments that make you realize that simplicity is the key!{found on site}. Posted: 28 May 2012 05:10 AM PDT We all have magazines and books lying around in the house. We move them from place to place in an effort to keep our home clean and organized. But there's also a way of doing that with style. The Helix magazine rack is the perfect piece for this purpose. Helix is a very modern piece with a minimalist and very chic design. Despite its apparently small dimensions, Helix can hold up to 200 magazines. Apparently, behind that sleek design hides a very practical and functional piece of furniture. The Helix magazine rack is an intriguing piece that resembles a real piece of art. It's like a sculpture that can also be used as storage. This makes it serve a double function. It's a practical storage unit, a very efficient magazine rack but also a very beautiful and sleek decoration and accessory for the house.
Have this beautiful piece placed in your lounge area or reading nook. With a chair as stylish and this magazine rack, that area will be a focal point in your home. The piece is crafted from flat plywood. It features a 90 degree central axis torsion that was used to shape the design. The Helix magazine rack has a certain twist to it. It's a very simple but very mysterious piece and it would add style to any space.{found on behance}. 7 Ways To Update Your Sectional Sofas Posted: 28 May 2012 04:12 AM PDT Sectional sofas are a great way to bring guests and families together. They create an all-in-one seating arrangement that stands out as the centerpiece of a room, all while making the space cozy and homey. They’re great for family movie nights, dinner parties and just to lay out, chill and relax on your days off from work. And you can find some that are seriously ….. super comfy! One of the most important tips when deciding to use a sectional sofa or if you’ve had one for years and need an updated look, is placement and arrangement. Since this piece of furniture is so large, its placement is vital to the room’s design and overall look. After it has been arranged in the right area, it’s all about decor and the surrounding elements like the pillows, throw blankets, table and ottomans. Take a look at some of these quick tips to give your sectional sofa an update! #1. Separate the sections. So many times we keep our sectionals in the same U or L shaped arrangement. This is a great option, but if you don’t have the right space – dividing the sofa pieces can be a nice alternative to gain more seating and utilize the room.{picture from site}.
#2. Mix and match.
If you’ve got two rooms adorned with sectional couches…..divide and conquer. Mix up the pieces from two different sofas and it’s not only comfy and functional but also adds a bit of surprise to the space.{picture from here}. #3. Contrasting colors. Sometimes a sectional sofa is so bulky and provides so much clutter … it doesn’t bring anything to the room’s style. Try adding some decorative throw pillows (or even blankets), contrasting in color and pattern, to bring some flavor back into the space!{picture from here}. #4. Keep it in the middle. Instead of pushing your sofa up against a wall, try arranging it in the center of the room. You’d be surprised the flexibility and more space you’ll utilize by keeping it in the center of the room.{picture from here}. #5. Use a coffee table for the focal point. Find a coffee table to compliment the sofa. Then arrange the sectional around the new focal point! This is a super easy update and you can really have fun with what table you decide to choose. You can also do this with a new ottoman or footrest!{found on site}. #6. Use a fun carpet. Center your sectional along the lines of an eye-catching carpet. It’ll brighten up a neutral couch and liven up the room!{found on site}. #7. Keep it neutral and clean. If you’ve already got a lot of color going on … take it all away! Go entirely monochromatic and sleek. It’ll bring in a modern edge and create a more contemporary feel.{picture from site}. Prototype Wood Mixtape Coffee Table Posted: 28 May 2012 12:40 AM PDT You probably remember those old-fashion cassette tapes that you used to put your music on a while ago. They are no longer used and they have become a part of history. However, for most of us, they are also a part of our history and a lot of memories are linked to this particular item. If you enjoyed making mixtapes for your friends, then you'll probably find this table a real treasure. This unique coffee table designed by Jeff Skierka is a replica of a cassette tape. It's made of reclaimed maple, walnut and Lucite with a plexiglass top. It's the first prototype for this design. The table is a 12:1 scaled replica of the tape we used to carry around in our pockets. It's indeed a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture that would make a unique addition to any home. It's also something worth to be displayed in public spaces as well.
The design of the table is very clever. Not only that it's an exact replica of the cassette tape but the shape and design of this item allowed the creator of this unusual piece of furniture to include practical storage space without changing the original design. The table sits on a transparent base and also has a transparent top. The only element that stands out and becomes apparent is the replica of the tape itself. It seems to be floating in the air. The prototype's dimensions are 47.25″ x 30″ x 5″. The future versions of this table will be made of high grade plywood with a variety of ply combinations and a glass top. And to make things even more accurate and impressive, the table is completely reversible, just like the tape. Modernity and comfort by Doshi Levien Posted: 27 May 2012 11:14 PM PDT What London designers Doshi Levien created is an armchair and sofa, for the Italian brand Moroso. Why is this sofa so interesting? Because it consists of large upholstery pieces, being covered in either leather or fabric, sitting within its delicate frame. The starting point was Modernist architecture and the name that reveals the inspiration source is unique, Corbusier’s architecture. If Doshi Levien means originally and beautifully Indo-Western aesthetic, inspiring not only the pattern for the sofa in the picture, but also a series of coffee tables that complete the collection. Both the Chandigarh sofas and the tables for Moroso were designed under the same concept of modernism, rooted in the identity of the city of Chandigarh, a source of inspiration. Everything is about the coming together of modernity, graphics and quality. Thus, the sofa you can admire is soft and comfortable, but not only; at the same time, it is compact, slim and lightweight. No matter if the covers are in leather or fabric with a printed pattern, it draws the attention on the city of Chandigarh.
Another aspect that emphasizes the beauty is represented by the colors that enchant the eyes and which are definitely a splash of color for any house. When beauty meets quality and comfort, the result can be only a success; in this case, the result is definitely a modernist sitting collection with one of the most contemporary approaches. Both the sofa and the table look so good together, that you do not have to look for another model. Holiday Girona house with an unsual roof Posted: 27 May 2012 07:50 PM PDT The Periscope House is a holiday residence located in La Selva de Mar, Girona, Spain. It used to be just a ruin until it was rehabilitated and turned into this lovely retreat. The restoration and transformation of the building was a project by Nerea Calvillo with Daniel García, Marina Fernández and Aitor Casero from C+arquitectos. They designed this house for a private client and completed it in 2011. The house covers a total area of 209 square meters. It has a very interesting design. Some of its most interesting features include an inhabitable roof sitting on top of a series of recovered stone walls. The architects managed to preserve some of the building's original elements. The walls are part of its history and a testimony of the past while the rest is a look towards the future. The internal structure is simple and efficient. All the service areas are attached to the stone walls and form a protective layer for the central area.
The core of the house is a large space that can be easily reconfigured and used as a night club, a football field or anything else its owner wants it to be. It can be accessed from any part of the house and it also offers access to all the other areas. The arrangement is quite unusual but very interesting at the same time. Considering the fact that technically the house has no road access, this was a quite difficult project that required that all materials would be transported by hand. At the end, the ruin turned into a contemporary home.{found on archdaily and pics by Miguel de Guzmán }.
