The nature-inspired “Caffee the Sól” interior design

Posted: 23 May 2012 10:25 AM PDT

Caffee the Sól is a new attraction that can be found in Seoul, Korea. It's a place where people can relax and get away from the city for a while. It's like an urban oasis. The design was the creation of DESIGN BON_O. They managed to come up with a very interesting approach for this inspiring coffee place. It covers an area of 220.05 square meters and it was mainly built using wood.

The main idea behind this project was to create an oasis, a place that would feel close to nature but without actually having anything to do with it. The space the architects had to work with features narrow areas and high ceilings. This allowed them to come up with this creative design. They managed to create a sort of artificial forest. As you can see, most of the interior and all the furniture are made of wood with a natural finish.

Since the idea was already so great, other elements weren't even considered. Instead of trying to divers the attention from the narrow spaces and the high ceiling, the architects made those spaces even narrower and used high elements to make them feel even higher. It was an interesting strategy that turned out to be very clever. They also used a very natural approach. The result was a very inviting space with a very warm atmosphere and a contemporary and minimalist design.

Black and white home theater turned into a colorful focal point

Posted: 23 May 2012 09:09 AM PDT

Black and white furniture is always beautiful. It's a classic combination of colors and it never gets old. However, it might get monotonous after a while. That's why a change is welcomed from time to time. This one black and white home theatre just got a makeover. It still preserved its charm but with a colorful touch.

The unit now features a bright pop of green and this change wasn't achieved with the help of paint but using vinyl electrical tapes. It was a long and tedious process but in the end it paid up. The result is very rewarding. Now this unit has character and a look not that different from the old one but striking enough to become a central point of attention. In order to get that bold green tone, options such as contact paper weren't good enough.

The final look was achieved using used self-adhesive lime green vinyl sheets for a base and two types of vinyl electrical tape for the stripes. The vinyl sheets had to be applied using one by one using a t-square as a squeegee. For this process the doors had to be removed. When they were completely covered with vinyl sheets they were put back onto the cabinets and the tape was applied across the surface of the cabinets, one long row at a time. It was a long process but the results are more than inspiring.{found on housepoint0}.

Functional door drawers by Rota-Lab

Posted: 23 May 2012 03:33 AM PDT

When you already have your house filled with storage units and cabinets and there's still not enough storage space and you still need more, then it's time to turn to some more unconventional solutions. Rota-Lab is a Rome-based design studio and the one that came up with a very ingenious idea. The studio created a series of door drawers.

The idea is very clever and very ingenious. The door is an item that will always be part of the décor so instead of trying to come up with new ways of squeezing everything inside the cabinets you already have maybe it would be practical to use the door for that as well. These door drawers don't actually provide a lot of storage space but they offer something in addition to everything else you can come up with. This idea is particularly useful in the case of small homes. When space becomes a challenge, these door drawers can be really helpful.

This new concept offers you the possibility of adding some useful storage space in any room that has a door. Originally it was designed for bathroom doors. There you can incorporate storage into the bathroom door and you can use that storage for towels, bath supplies like shampoo or shower gel or you can use it for personal stuff. You can do that by adding these built-in boxes and free up space that would otherwise be occupied by the items you can store inside them. The door will have a sculptural look and the effect will be original and inspiring.

Low energy house with a modern save spacing interior design

Posted: 23 May 2012 02:39 AM PDT

The Silvervillan is a house located in Skilleby, Järna, Sweden. It covers an area of 179 square meters and it was designed by Sjöberg & Thermé. The construction was completed in 2011 at a cost of 2,7milj kr, 300,000€. The interesting thing about this building is that it's a low energy house with a total of 7000 KW/year.

Sitting in one of the most environmentally friendly areas of Sweden, it was natural that the house would be low maintenance as well. The main idea behind this project was to build a house that would allow minimal heat loss and would be able to keep a balanced temperature all year around without having astonishing electricity bills. The Silvervillan was built with two separate construction frames. The walls have 45 cm of cellulose insulation and there's 60 cm insulation in the ceilings and roof as well. The house is heated by renewable and solar energy.

The façade of the house is very simple and rustic-looking. It's made of pinewood and painted so that it would look like the old houses from the northern side of Sweden. The entrance is a glass structure that allows natural light to invade the whole house. There's a solar panel on the south side that takes care of most of the electricity problems. Inside, there's a large open area that includes the kitchen, the dining area and the living area. It has large windows and oak floors. The interior design is simple and functional. All the storage space are built-in and the general appearance is elegant and modern. For example the space under the staircase was transformed into space saving because the designer choose to save the space there creating few drawers.{found on archdaily and pics by Erik}.

Modern concrete home in San Francisco

Posted: 22 May 2012 11:36 PM PDT

This is the home of Clive McCarthy and his wife, Tricia Bell. It's a lovely home with a modern feel and a surprising look. The building originally served as a cigarette warehouse. It was then used by the Capp Street Project, an organization known for its experimental art installations. It had many other owners since then and now it's a lovely private home.

The building is basically a big concrete structure. It has been previously renovated and restored. However, it doesn't have the internal structure suitable for a private residence. But, even though, it's not a conventional home, it's different and unique and it was an opportunity for the new owners to make it their own. Now there's a studio in the middle of the central space and a series of rooms surrounding it. Some changes have been made in order to make the space more livable but there weren't any radical changes.

A spiral stairway leads to the roof garden, a beautiful area with panoramic views of the surroundings. The house has an open kitchen with a 39-foot granite work island that also doubles as a dining table. As Mr. McCarthy initially promised his wife, the house also has a space called "Tricia's Room". It's a space that can be anything she wants, her little retreat. It has a green wall and a cheerful interior décor. The whole house is also creatively decorated and also serves as a gathering place for friends and critiques to rehearse or perform.{found on nytimes}.
