| Contemporary family box house in New Zeeland Posted: 21 May 2012 09:13 AM PDT This compact structure is a family residence located in Wellington, New Zeeland. It was designed by Dan Heyworth and it has a modern and simple design. The house was designed for a young couple. Given their current status, the house needed to have an open design that would allow the creation of extensions when the family will grow. The current structure has a compact shape and a modest but beautiful look. The residence includes a total of 3 bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, a dining room and a living room. The kitchen, living and dining room are part of a large open area and they are separated by a split level. The rooms are relatively small. To make them seem airy and spacious, the interior décor is minimalist and modern. The furniture pieces are all simple and they have elegant designs. The colors used for the décor are a combination of neutral tones such as white, black and brown mixed with dynamic shades of yellow and red. The result is a balanced design with colorful inserts.
The residence also has a garage. It's situated under the living floor and it has a very lightweight look. The wrapped structure seems to be a delicate volume with the residence just floating above it. Designing the house was quite easy. The site was flat so there weren't any challenges on that level. The site is also surrounded by trees so the owners of this beautiful house can have all the privacy they need. The residence features tall windows and a glass wall section that allow beautiful and serene views. | Asymmetric bathtub from Cabrits Posted: 21 May 2012 07:40 AM PDT Bathtubs nowadays tend to differentiate themselves from traditional tub designs. They are more delicate and they have shapes that follow the human body's contour thus being very comfortable. This particular bathtub is part of the Cabrits Collection. It's a modern tub with an asymmetrical shape and delicate curved lines. The Cabrits bathtub features a double dip design and attempts to introduce a revolutionary bathing experience. This tub is more than just a stylish product. Its curves are reminiscent of the volcanoes from the Caribbean National Park so the idea behind its design is deeper than it seems. The tub has an ergonomic form and a shape designed to fit the body perfectly. The shape of the tub was designed to offer support for the mid and lower back and to offer an optimal position for the user.
This stylish bathtub was designed to suit all the areas of a home. It has a delicate silhouette and a sculptural shape that make it suitable for both bathrooms and bedrooms. Regardless of its location, the Cabrits bathtub will be a focal point for the décor. Not only that it looks stylish but it also offers a luxurious bathing experience. The dimensions of the tub are L 1739 mm W 745mm H 561mm. It has a capacity of 176 liters and when it's empty it only weights 63 kg. The minimalism of the design and the beautiful curves make this tub one of the most elegant and stylish ones you can find. | The playful Banana Chair by WamHouse Posted: 21 May 2012 05:40 AM PDT Chairs come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. But while you expect to see variations in terms of color, size, shape and decorative details, a chair shaped like a banana would take anyone by surprise. This playful chair is actually called Zjedzony but its shape dares us to call it banana chair. The chair was designed by WamHouse and it's actually shaped like a banana. The resemblance with the fruit is amazing. The chair was carefully designed to resemble a banana, all while still being a comfortable piece of furniture. Zjedzony means "eaten" in Polish, a term that accurately describes the chair. This cheerful piece of furniture reinvents the chair as we know it. It has a modern design with an original and unusual shape. It's also a luxuriously-looking piece of furniture that would make a very eye-catching addition to any type of space.
Since the chair is so odd-looking, it's difficult to say what it was specifically designed for. It's a chair that would make an original addition to private homes but that would also be an interesting choice for public spaces, maybe for waiting areas or large shops or malls. The Zjedzony chair cleverly combined the practicality and functionality of a regular chair with the strangeness of its design. It's a fun piece of furniture with an eye-catching design and a cheerful combination of color tones. | Top 33 Creative Bookshelves Designs Posted: 20 May 2012 10:00 PM PDT Here I come again with a post about creative bookshelves. The idea came into my mind when I was surfing on the internet and saw a huge amount of unusual bookshelves, some made by well-known designers and some made by simple people who had an idea and put it into practice. In the next few lines I am going to show you the most creative bookshelves that I think worth watching and if you are a DIY enthusiast you can use this material to make your own unique bookshelf. So take a look and prove me right!
1.Teacups. This first original bookshelf idea features a graphical representation of four stacked teacups. The pallet frenzy people would love this unique way to create a personalized bookshelf. Very popular among DIY enthusiasts, pallets can hold books or a great diversity of decorative objects with absolutely no problem. Wood makes them neutral and suitable for any environment. Their rough edges and worn look could make the difference by standing out in a boxy interior.{found on here}. 4.Boat bookcase. One guy though of transforming this old wooden boat in a bookcase. Did he succeed? I would like to think so because it has the right height and plenty of space for things to be put in there. The boat stands out and looks great thanks to the wonderful natural wood and let's not forget the "element of surprise"; nobody has seen something like it.Available for 200$. 5.Alphabetic Bookshelf. | The Spontaneo Insieme furniture collection by Be+Have Posted: 20 May 2012 07:33 PM PDT Torino-based design studio Be+Have has recently come up with a very interesting and intriguing collection. It's a series of furniture pieces with eye-catching designs and with a very interesting approach. The studio basically reinvented some of the most common pieces of furniture usually found in our homes. It's a reinterpretation of the classical designs and the approach is contemporary and original. This conceptual project is based on the creation of asymmetrical furniture that pushes the boundaries and becomes artwork. Calling a sofa an art piece is not only unusual but sometimes impossible. In this case, that's the only concept that can describe this collection. At the base of the project stood the classical Italian designs from the 80s. They acted as a source of inspiration for this unique collection.
The collection consists of four pieces of furniture. Each one of them is unique and they all have unique names: the Ettore Chest of Drawers, Giulia Sofa, Storage Ciccio and Consolle Francesca. The pieces seem to have a very spontaneous look. In reality it took a lot of planning and designing them was a challenge. The result was a creative collection. All four pieces are based on simple designs. However, they all have something that makes them unique. They impress with their shape and bold look. The colors they feature are also easy to spot. The designers of this collection decided to think outside the box and it turned out to be great success.{found on yatzer}. | Posted: 20 May 2012 06:49 PM PDT This is a residence located in Tokyo, Japan. It's a modern house that was recently renovated by Naf Architect & Design. The name of the project was Switch Box in House. It's because all the rooms of the house are connected to a wooden box located in the center. The central wooden structure is connected to an electrical switch box. This box-like structure from the middle of the house contains staircases leading both up and down and it also includes an entrance from house into the chiropractic surgery and seating area. Considering the double function that this house fulfills, both as a private residence and a workplace for the client, the wooden box was a very ingenious idea that really suits this purpose. Above the box, on the first floor, are located the living and dining areas. The roof of the box forms the surface of a kitchen worktop so it integrates naturally into the décor.
The project included the total renovation of the house. The central wooden box was installed during the renovation and it's made of deck lumber. The house is actually quite old. It was built 17 years ago. It has 4 bedrooms and a garage partially situated underground. The residence now also includes a chiropractic clinic and this was the main reason why the wooden box was needed. It delimitates the areas and it provides access to all the rooms of the house: the living and dining rooms from upstairs, the master bedroom, the karaoke room from the basement. Even though the space might seem drastically divided, the box features interspaces between lumber that let sunlight get downstairs and also let voices get through. The connection is still strong even though visually delimitated. The project is very interesting and it shows us how a typical family house can be turned into an interactive space. switch box.
