Stylishly remodeled kitchen by Sublime Architectural Interiors

Posted: 20 May 2012 07:47 AM PDT

This kitchen was designed for a family of four. As it most often happens, the kitchen is perceived as a social space and not just a work area. it’s why most require renovation. in this case, the owners of this residence located in Queensland, Australia turned to Sublime Architectural Interiors for help when the kitchen needed a makeover.

The remodeled itchen you see now is stage one of a contemporary replica. Before remodeling the space, the designers and the clients came up with a list of requirements. The main problem with the old kitchen was that it seemed too small. It didn’t have enough space for storage and for sitting and it seemed unpractical and always cluttered. In order to solve that problem, the designers took a radical approach for this U-shaped space.

It wasn’t just the kitchen that was being renovated.l The whole residence was in the process of being remodeled and modernized. It was why it was also important to try to create continuity between the kitchen and the rest of the house as not to be any major discrepancies in terms of style.

The first step of the renovation was to make the patio a part of the living and dining area. This also meant that the kitchen could also become a part of that space and that it could have a more airy and balanced design. As a result, the kitchen had to share the design of the main social area. There were many challenges to this project, some of them big and some small. For example, deciding where the TV should go was not as easy as it should have. It had to be visible from all the areas but not become the focal point of the decor.

The kitchen itself is simple, modern and functional. It also has a sophisticated look, mostly given by the use of stylish decorations such as the kitchen island or the wall decor. Now this modern family has a new space where its members can gather in the morning and plan their day together.

Posted: 20 May 2012 03:57 AM PDT

The Slumber Cushion was designed by Aleksandra Gaca for Casalis in 2012 and it's part of the Slumber Collection that also includes the Slumber poufs. It's a square-shaped cushion, very soft and very cozy. It's a lovely item that can serve as a decoration but, given its very soft texture, also as a cozy item to make you feel more comfortable when sitting on the sofa, chair or anywhere else. It has a double function and it fulfills them perfectly.

The Slumber Cushion is crafted from three dimensional elastic textile. It's part of the Slumber series and it's an impressive and chic as the rest of the collection. The cushion is extremely soft and pleasant to the touch. It's because of the kid mohair that was sued to create it. The softness this small cushion offers is incredible. It makes you instantly love it and never let go. There are four different dimensions to choose from. The four models have similar shapes and designs. They are made from the same materials and the only thing that differs is the size.

The cushion is available in four dimensions: 40 x 40, 50 x 50, 60 x 60 and 35 x 60 cm. They are all square-shaped, except for the last version. The Slumber Cushion comes in 12 different colors, all natural tones that match perfect with the rest of the pieces from this collection.

Beautiful retreat located in Missouri, USA

Posted: 20 May 2012 03:00 AM PDT

The Postcard House is a beautiful retreat located in Missouri, USA. It was a project by Hufft Projects and it was completed in 2010. It covers an area of 5,700 square feet and it benefits from a wonderful location. This modern lakeside retreat features a very interesting and unusual design. Its design was built with the views as a primary concern. The shape of the building itself was meant to capture and frame the views and the scenery from every angle.

The name of the project is also related to this concept. Give the shape and form of the house, the building creates "postcards" from within. The views it offers are very beautiful everywhere you look, it's like looking at a postcard. The views are obviously the most important element. They stay at the base of this whole project. The house is a retreat, a place where its owners can come to relax and to get away from their everyday life. The location and the scenery are definitely helping.

The house was built using mainly aluminum and western red cedar. The building was placed on columns in order to minimize the impact it has on the environment and the impervious pavement. Moreover, the entire house uses natural daylight and natural ventilation. Not only that it's a nice place to forget about your problems by admiring the views, but it's also a place where you can detach from technology and where you can feel closer to nature. During the construction, recycled and low VDC materials were also used throughout. The back of the house is opaque and redirects the attention towards the lake.{found on archdaily and pics by Matthew Hufft, Andrew Fabin}.
