Posted: 15 May 2012 10:00 AM PDT The ancient Romans are famous for having conquered most of the world they knew at the time and also for improving the culture and civilization of the people they conquered. I admired the beautiful marble statues and temples, the marvelous baths and also the nice looking gardens. They had amazing marble or stone tables they used both indoors and outdoors and they have survived to this day. These stone tables are still so nice and look incredibly well in any garden. They are round and covered with beautiful carvings and they make any garden spectacular. This Acanthus Stone Roman Table is certainly an excellent example. Its tabletop is perfectly round and supported by a nice long leg. It is covered by nice stone carved leaves and is further supported by a triangular base on three round wheels made of stone. The table is perfect for outdoor use, since it is entirely made of stone and thanks to this it will not be affected by bad weather. If you like this item you can purchase it from Designer Sofas 4U for a reduced price of £178.20 . It will give a special ancient look to your garden and it will bring elegance and style. Serralunga Kronik Planter/ Table Posted: 15 May 2012 09:13 AM PDT I like unexpected turns of actions and also unexpected uses of things. That is why I love taking old apparently useless things and give them a new meaning and face. For example I love using an old bucket as a nice and big flower pot, of course, after operating some changes on its look. That is why I love this Serralunga Kronik Planter/ Table. It is designed by the famous Karim Rashid who amazed the whole world with his unusual and beautiful creations. This item is basically a table that has a modernist look. It is square and flat and has a long leg that makes it look almost like a pedestal. It is great in any living room, but if you no longer need it as a table you can immediately turn it upside down and you will see it is hollow inside. That makes it perfect as a planter. It is sturdy and made of polyethylene and has a lot of nice and abstract signs on it. It is available in a wide range of colours among which white, black, apple green, orange and fuchsia. This way you can match it with the design in the room or outdoors, where you want to place it. The item is now available for $869. How to make your own balcony garden Posted: 15 May 2012 07:36 AM PDT The balcony is a great extension of the living space and it's what makes a home complete. Often, this area is incorporated into the living area or turned into a lounge space. But most often the balcony is sued as a place to raise plants. If an area where they can have all the natural light they need and it's the perfect environment for them. There are lots of ways in which you can turn your balcony into a lovely garden. A great source of inspiration would be the two articles that show you how to turn pallets into furniture (1 and 2). There you can find lots of ideas that are particularly great for this type of project.Pallets are easy to find, cheap and very versatile. You can turn them into a potting bench, a wood planter or a vertical garden. Any of these ideas can be used for a balcony.
If you don't like pallets, then you can come up with something else. Depending on the size and shape of your balconies you can either use hanging planters or classic pots. You can even make a multi-level that will allow you to admire all your plants while also making it easy to care for them. In a small balcony where floor space is limited, hanging planters are a great idea. They take zero floor space and they make wonderful decorations. They can even provide shade. When designing a balcony garden, what you need to pay attention to is the size of this space, the color of the walls, the type of pots you use and the plants you choose. All of these elements need to be in sync, otherwise the balcony will look like a mess. We've already discussed about the pots. The wall color is your choice to make but it should be bright tone, preferably pastel. As for the plants, it all depends on how much time you're willing to give them. If you're a busy person, low-maintenance plants are the way to go. If not, you can opt for anything you like.{pictures sources:1,2,3,4&5}. The stylish home of Danish interior designer Tina Offshore Wind Posted: 15 May 2012 06:47 AM PDT It's always interesting to see how an interior designer would decorate their own home. It's the essence of their personal styles and an opportunity to see their personal preferences in terms of interior décor. This is the home of Danish interior designer Tina Offshore Wind. It's a very simple home with a very airy and bright interior. Each room has been designed in a way that emphasizes its beauty and with a décor that allows it to express its true form. All the rooms are bright and filled with natural light. They also seem spacious and very chic. The designer lives in a first floor apartment located in a villa situated north of Copenhagen. She shares this home with her husband and their lovely pet rabbit Thumper. At first Thumper seemed like a decoration and it seemed to be a natural part of the décor. The apartment has a casual look and it seems very comfortable.
The designer decorated this place according to her style. She used very beautiful colors including earth tones, shades of gray, white rose and wooden tones. Each room has a different look. The furniture has been carefully selected for each space. The attention to detail is evident from the start. The airy décor was also the result of careful planning. Each piece of furniture has enough free space around it that allows it to contribute to an overall relaxing atmosphere.{found on Bo Bedre an pics by Kira Brandt}. DIY Vintage Teacup Flower Pots Posted: 15 May 2012 05:44 AM PDT There are a lot of nice vintage things that I like. For example I love vintage jewelry. They remind me of those old times when they were very fashionable and bring a certain touch of those times. Still there are some vintage things that do not satisfy my tastes. Vintage furniture or vintage clothes seem less attractive to me. Vintage furniture seems too massive and sometimes you have the impression that leave you without oxygen and vintage clothes do not seem to match my type and personality. The next DIY project can help you create some real nice DIY Vintage Teacup Flower Pots using some vintage teacups that you probably thought that they are useless and out of fashion. Perhaps they deserve a second chance and the following DIY project will show it to you.All you need to do is to fill with some potting soil your vintage teacups and add your favorite plants. It is an easy to do project, simple and very cheap. You may use them as presents for someone dear to you or just decorate your house. The vintage teacups will add an old touch and the fragile plants will bring some life and color.
Still there is a nice advantage of vintage things. They may be saved and reused as something new and useful. You may create wonderful things with an old shirt, boot or a vintage jar. Just think of your old and dusty things that may be laid down somewhere in your house, take you a lot of your necessary space and you do not use them anymore.{found on intimateweddings}. Create A Colorful Breakfast Nook Like This One Posted: 15 May 2012 04:44 AM PDT Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It's what most people say. What they don't say is that, in order to enjoy your breakfast and to be able to start the day with a smile on your face, the environment is important as well. Today we're going to show you how you can create a breakfast nook similar to that in the pictures and what pieces you'll need for that. Notice that the design is very simple. There's just a small table, some comfy chairs, a lamp and a colorful toaster. You can find those exact items in stores and you can use them to recreate this image. Here they are:
1. The Docksta dining table. This is a very beautiful and minimalist table. It has a simple design and a friendly shape. The table is white, a neutral color that further emphasizes its delicate shape and clean but stylish design. You can buy this table at the price of $229.00. 2. The Wishbone Chair. The chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son. This particular model has a red frame but other colors are available as well. The chair, created in 1949, is also known as "Y" or "CH-24". It has a steam-bent solid wood frame and a seat that's hand-woven from paper cord. It's a very durable piece of furniture and also a very comfortable one, perfect for a breakfast nook or dining room. You can buy it at the price of $641.00. 3. The Vintage Barn Pendant Hunter. The pendant lamp is a reproduction of an enamel pendant that used to be a popular fixture in barns in the last century. It has a classic design that has been preserved. The finish was changed in order to give the lamp a fresh look. The pendant is made of steel and aluminum, it has a green finish and a distressed aluminum cap and a reflector finished with antiqued white enamel. Its price varies from $199 to $499 and it comes in three sizes. 4. The Dualit Newgen toaster. Now that you have the table, chair and lamp, all that's left to complete the décor is the toaster. This is a classic toaster that features a selector switch that allows you to reduce the number of slots in use. It also includes a defrost setting for frozen bread and another options option for buns and bagels. It's an easy to use toaster with a friendly design. It can be purchased at the price of $239.00. 5.Wall plates. Ceramic plates can make lovely wall decorations. Even though they're not very popular these days, they are great when you want to create a vintage décor and a warm and inviting atmosphere. You can use plates to decorate the dining room or the kitchen and there are many different designs to choose from. For example, you can choose a theme and combine several plates that share something in common. It can be the color, the shape or the pattern painted on them. The main idea when decorating a wall with plates is to think out of the box. Even if the plates are not a modern decoration you can use them to break the monotony of your home and to create something original. Floral prints are usually common. They bring joy and color to the décor and they're also reminiscent of antique and traditional compositions. But there are also other themes to explore as well. Since these plates are usually hand-painted, each one of them is unique and different. It's one more element that makes your décor original. There are many different ways in which you can use plates for your interior décor. For some ideas you can also check out another article that we wrote specifically on this theme. It will show you how you can use plates to create a rustic but colorful décor for your kitchen or dining room. It will also give you some ideas regarding the themes you can adopt and the styles you can choose from. All plates are from 28 euros. These are the main elements that you need for the recreation of the breakfast nook presented at the beginning. The way you use them and arrange them is up to you. Of course, you can add your own twist to the design and add or remove certain elements to make it more original.{picture from styleathome}. The contemporary SushiCafé Avenida restaurant in Lisbon Posted: 15 May 2012 03:33 AM PDT SushiCafé Avenida is not a café that serves sushi nor the other way around. The name is indeed misleading. The idea behind the name was to capture the essence of the concept it describes. SushiCafé Avenida is in fact a restaurant with a modern and innovative design and that represents a distinguishing concept that can't really be described in words. The odd combination of terms and the strangeness it reveals are very close to what the restaurant itself offers. This restaurant is located in Lisbon and it was designed by Miguel Saraiva & Associados. Inside, the restaurant features a series of undulating walls and modern architectural elements that, combined with the innovative lighting strategy that was used to brighten up the space, result in a very impressive and unique décor. The interior is mostly white with the exception of the wooden furniture that adds warmth and the different color shades created by the light and the angles of the walls.
The entrance to the restaurant is small and only offers a glimpse of the sushi bar. After you pass this area the whole restaurant opens up and reveals its entire beauty. It includes a large lounge and dining area with an elevated DJ booth that was built into the wall. The walls feature LED technology that creates colorful lights that further coordinate with the beats of the DJ and create an overall simple but very pleasant atmosphere. Every woman I know has a lot of makeup. Even if you’re like me, and wear the same low-key makeup almost everyday, for some reason you still have too much makeup messing and cluttering up your vanity. Posted: 14 May 2012 11:33 PM PDT Even though we live in a modern world where everything is in continuous change, sometimes it's nice to get away from all that and to go to your comfort zone. Sometimes this means a vintage home where you can feel comfortable not influenced by the outside world. Creating a vintage décor seems natural and easy but it can also be restricting. A vintage décor is often characterized by original and unique details. They can be anything from a personal collection of objects to a vintage piece of wall art. It's easy to recognize a vintage item when you see it. You can create a collection of such items and display it in a corner of your home. The mix will be eclectic but it will reflect your personality.
Another simple way of creating a vintage interior décor is by using wall art. Again, you can create a mix of your favorite photos or art pieces and display them on one of the walls. Even though they will be all different, it would be best to connect them by using the same type of frame. There are no distinctive rules for each room of the house. Each space can be turned into a cozy vintage area. The kitchen could benefit from some lovely chairs, maybe something salvaged or remodeled and the hardware can be a nice vintage touch. The dining room could be decorated with some lovely wing chairs and a simple black table. For the living room, all the ideas related to decorations that we've presented by now are available. A great way of introducing some vintage accents into the house is by improvising when it comes to finding storage solutions. A vintage armoire would be lovely for the bedroom or dining room and a series of baskets of cases can be a great choice as well. Usually, hand-crafted pieces can make a huge difference in a home. Another very versatile idea that will help you turn any space, even the laundry room, into a vintage piece of heaven is to use wallpaper, preferably something traditional.{picture sources:1&2,3,4 and 5}.
