Innovative and exciting advertising office Posted: 09 May 2012 10:08 AM PDT The Saatchi & Saatchi office is located in Bangkok, Thailand. In 211 it went through a renovation that resulted in the transformation of the office into a more modern and colorful space. The project was developed by Supermachine Studio and it was completed in October 2011. The office covers a total area of 400 square meters. After the renovation, the office turned into a colorful, fun and innovative space. The inspiration for the new décor came from everyday life objects and this makes it seem comfortable and familiar. The office was designed into two separate volumes. One is the creative zone and the other is the managing zone. Two separate areas for two distinct purposes. As expected, these spaces have different decors.
The creative volume is a bright and open space. It's an area where communication is encouraged, a place where people can share ideas, consult and get inspired together. It's like the living room in a home. The managing zone, on the other hand, is a darker space with a more serious atmosphere. Still, it's not a depressing space. This area has colorful decorations as well. These two areas are separated by a trophy wall and a bicycle wall. The office has an overall efficient and practical décor and it's a combination of fun and functional elements. The use of everyday life objects was meant to turn the office into a familiar and also useful space where work can be combined with relaxation and creativity. Old oil mill turned into family residence with backyard lap pool Posted: 09 May 2012 07:47 AM PDT This beautiful and inviting residence seems like a very friendly and charming home. It's located in Nimes, southern France and it's very chic and stylish. However, the residence has an interesting history. The building actually dates back to the 19th century and it used to be an old oil mill. That was until interior designer Marie-Laure Helmkampf transformed it and turned it into this charming residence. Because of the structure and the poor state of the oil mill, everything had to be rebuilt. The building, now a residence was rebuilt with a more solid foundation and with a design reminiscent of the original architecture of the building. In order to do that, the designer decided to use some of the old materials that were then repurposed. They include elements such as the solid beams and the stone walls. The façade is quite similar to that of the original mill. The interior, however, had to go through some major changes.
The internal structure was drastically changed. The rooms feature towering ceilings and large iron framed windows that hold the charm and character of the old mill. Still, the building had to be transformed in order to become a cozy and inviting place to live in. The social areas such as the living room, dining room, kitchen and study have been decorated with neutral color tones and complemented by wooden elements that add warmth to the décor. The furniture is a combination of contemporary and vintage pieces that reflect the story of the house and its passage from an old oil mill to a modern family home. Actually, the image of this tower represents the date palm which is an important product for people's life that live in Dubai.
The woven structure of the building is symbol of the network of trade and commerce routes which had as a starting point or ultimate stopping the city of Dubai. Nordic apartment with exotic touches Posted: 09 May 2012 04:24 AM PDT The Nordic style is so simple and easy to recognize. A Nordic décor is usually white and with minimalist furniture. But there are lots of styles that would look great in combination with this one. This particular apartment, for example, features an eclectic mix. It's obvious that the dominant element is the Nordic décor. However, there are several other styles that are quite strong. The apartment is actually a combination of more than twos styles, which is difficult to achieve, especially when the styles are so different. The first two directions are the Nordic and the vintage inspirations. These are elements that usually look beautiful when combined. They are both relatively simple and they complement each other nicely. The Nordic style is minimalist and usually cold whereas the vintage elements bring warmth and comfort into the décor.
So we have something simple and something warm and comfortable. The natural thing to do would be to add a touch of color, maybe something exotic. IT'S exactly what happened in the case of this apartment. There are several items of exotic inspiration scattered around the apartment. The most dominant area would be the bedroom with the colorful wallpaper. The colors are very nice, suitable for a bedroom. However, it might be a little too much in this case. Perhaps that only one colorful wall would have been enough. Overall, the apartment is a lovely mix of styles, with at least three different influences working together to form an enjoyable space.{found on Alhvem}. Traditional mountain property with natural decorations Posted: 09 May 2012 02:44 AM PDT A few years ago, many people preferred having modern homes, with the latest appliances and the craziest decorations they could find. Now, I have noticed that people try to return to their origins, to live in more traditional houses filled with natural material and decorations. We can have the most spectacular houses on Earth, but they will not make us happy if they will be placed in a polluted area, where the nature barely reveals itself. The human being was born in the middle of the nature and must continue to live there. In this place, an amazing estate was built to provide shelter and comfort for a family who loves the nature and prefers its spectacular views instead of the artificial ones. Located in Ketchum, Idaho, United States, 83340 this amazing 10,167 square feet residence has 8 bedrooms, 8 full and 1 half bathrooms decorated with the most interesting and unique furniture which gives us the impression of being in an extended vacation, especially in the winter when the most beautiful moments happen near the fireplace or maybe, in the media room where the guests can enjoy a hot cup of tea and a quality movie.
Outside, on 4.28 acres of terrain we will see also a guest house for those who want to spend the night there, a barn and a tennis court. This unique estate is now on the market and it can be bought with $7,500,000 if you want to wake up every single morning with the amazing views of Eagle Creek in front of you. How to decorate a young woman’s bedroom Posted: 09 May 2012 12:43 AM PDT We’ve recently posted an article with tips for decorating a woman’s bedroom. It was a more general post without any specific details about any different types. Here we are with another post, this time about a young woman’s bedroom. Since the word “young” is in this case the second most important, let’s focus on some specific tips for this particular category. A young woman’s bedroom should be fresh and cheerful. It should reflect her age as well as her character, just like her cloths do. This means it shouldn’t look like an old person’s home but neither like a little girl’s room. A balance needs to be found ebtween these extreme situations. Let’s start with the color. The walls should have a happy color. This way the whole room will be cheerful.
Usually, young women tend to choose colors such as pink, lavender or light blue. These are all pastel colors with a fairy feel. Still, some women prefer something a little more vibrant and intense. In this case,a nice color choice would be green. It’s a very fresh color and it doesn;’t have to look pale if you opt for a less pastel version. Now that the walls are fresh and beautiful, let’s discuss the furniture. The furniture in a young woman’s bedroom should be contemporary. Also, because the room needs to be airy, small-sized furniture would be a good idea. This way a casual look can be created while also being considerate to the spacial needs of the user. In order to solve the storage problem, multi-functional drawers, open shelves and unusual storage units or chests are all great ideas. For the rest of the bedroom decor, it all depends on the woman’s personality. For example, there are several options: contemporary wall art, sculptures, DIY wall accessories, etc. In all cases, the colors should be fresh and vibrant. In conclusion, the key words that you need to keep in mind are fresh, modern and personal.{pictures found on:1,2,3 and 4}. Posted: 09 May 2012 12:05 AM PDT Marco Maturo and Alessio Roscini designed a piece of lighting device that really impressed me. At first, when I saw these pictures I didn't know exactly what they are and especially what this thing does. It took me a while to figure it out and now I am happy to share my knowledge with you. These are two table lamps made of limestone in two parts. Petra, the first lamp is inspired by the famous monument in Jordan, entirely dug and carved into hard rock. The leccese stone is a material with great tradition in the architectural world and people always choose it for sculptures or other projects. Now this type of stone is being used to create a table lamp. Rather unusual I would say but this material open up a new opportunity for industrial manufacturing. Petra is composed of a main body that holds the light source and the upper part that slides in and directs light on both sides of the lamp.
Among the really interesting things behind this product is the story. For instance, the two parts of the lamp are made from a single block of stone. The second lamp, Tegola is destined more for a desk or the bedside because of the way it reflects. Like the first one this also has two parts with fit easily one on top of each other. The lamp is designed so the upper part works as a reflector, directing the light towards the floor, making it perfect for reading at night. Restored two-bedroom bungalow with a contrasting design Posted: 08 May 2012 11:22 PM PDT This lovely house is Blake Dollahite's first home. The best part about it is that he got to build it with his father. It was a project they started when Blake was just out of college. They only had a small bank loan to start with but they also had a lot of helping hands so it was a fun project. Together, they restored this lovely bungalow in Austin. It's a two-bedroom house with a brick patio. It's perfect as a first home and it's even better when you actually get to help building it. The original house had to be completely deconstructed. It was in bad condition and it didn't really meet the new owner's expectations and needs. As a result, everything had to be built all over again. The new structure is a modern house with a simple design. It has a plastic roof and it might not seem very secure but when you build it with your own hands everything changes.
The project didn't seem very large at first. Of course, it turned out to be quite challenging. The house was mostly built using recycled materials. The doors were salvaged and very cheap and most of the flooring was made by milling old roof decking. If we also consider the fact that the team of friends and family did all the works and they even designed their own light fixtures and cabinets, the costs were pretty low. At the end it got around $45 per square feet. Since the whole house was built basically from scratch and everyone helped with the construction, it had great sentimental value. So when Blake faced the challenge of furnishing it, Blake couldn't just put in there anything and since he couldn't afford the pieces he admired, he decided to make his own furniture. He set up a workshop in the last unfinished room and got to work. It was a smart idea. This way he got to design the furniture exactly how he wanted and he also got to choose the perfect proportions. It was the perfect ending to a great story.{found on dwell}. 60 Under stairs storage ideas for small spaces Posted: 08 May 2012 10:00 PM PDT Storage space is never enough and those who can't get rid of things easily know what I am talking about. Let's see how the space under the stairs can be transformed in a new storage area. Home office under stairs. How many of you thought about using the space under your stairs as a working area? Let me answer that and tell you that not many people figured this out. It's all about the stairs; they have to be wide enough and straight forward allowing you to place a table there and some small shelves. A laptop or a PC will fit in there without any major problems. There are two types of office arrangement under the stairs. The first one is facing the wall, positioned along the steps and the other one is positioned perpendicular. Both types focus on the same thing maximizing the space available under the stairs as good as possible.
If you want to concentrate on your work without anyone distracting your attention you can mount a door. Sliding doors would be the best choice because it's not going to take up a lot of space, but they can be expensive. Swing doors on the other hand may or may not fit or look appealing. Anyway, with or without doors, perpendicular or not, you can arrange an original home office under your stairs and that's very good news for those who already explored all the other options. Ways to use the space under the stairs in the hallway. The hallway by due to its nature is like a very busy intersection with streets coming from all over the place. This means that this space can be used to store something that has to be at any moment at hand. Depending on what type of situation you are facing and what décor or architecture that space under your stairs from the hallway can be used to expand your décor or as storage area. A very good idea that also comes in quite handy is to transform that space to store your shoes and clothes for the cold\warm season. You can live it open or closed with big doors. The inside compartment can very easily be divided so every member of the family can have its own place. Storage is not the only option here; you can also use that area to extend your interior setting. I see a nice couch or a big comfortable arm chair working just perfect in that spot, or simply use it to support your favorite decorations. If you care less about style and just need extra space for your appliances, sports items or why not your bike this is the perfect spot because is never in your way but in the same time very accessible. Ways to use the space under the stairs in living room. Your living room is a little bit more delicate than a hallway therefore the stairs from this area are either very stylish and any rough modification will ruin the overall look either made from materials that stand out, and as before any major modification to them or the space around them will ruin the whole thing. In a living room the secret is not to make something that doesn't fully integrate in the environment. Therefore the space under your stairs should be a part of the entire décor but focused more on functionality because in the end that's what we want: some extra space. Have ever thought about making a bookshelf under your living rooms stairs? If your answer is "yes" then you did o very good job maximizing your space, if the answer is "no" –why not? It not like your books are measuring 3 feet each! A bookshelf is perfect for that space because you can make the shelves one longer one shorter one higher one lower and it will look great and I am sure that your favorite books won't mind. Decorations also can have their "sanctuary" under the stairs as well as electronic equipment embellishing the entire living room with color and texture. Kitchen under the stairs. This method of using the space under your stairs is recommended only in very tight situations when the lack of space is really an issue and you already eliminated all the other options. Using the area under your stairs as kitchen or at least a part of the kitchen in my opinion is a bit on the limit because I am a man who likes to cook a lot and when I'm doing that I don't want any shoe lasses getting in my food not mention dust or dirt. For those who don't have a lot of space to play with that spot can very easily incorporate some appliances, a sink or a stove. Above that you can put all your plates and coffee cups on small shelves, spices as well. Speaking of spices I saw somewhere I don't remember exactly where but in a very traditional house with stone walls and cast iron railway a "spice wall". A place with a lot of tiny compartments made of solid wood similar to small mail boxes, where there were little jars filled with spices from all over the world. That man really knew his business! Rack and shelves under the stairs. We can all agree upon the fact that the easiest way to arrange the space under the stairs is with shelves and racks. A lot of things can be placed there without the need of heavy furnishing. Shelves can and it is actually recommended to be of different sizes and a little bit asymmetrical because the usual square spaces and straight lines don't necessarily fit in new, modern interiors. On shelves you can store almost anything the only thing that matters is where the stairs are located because different spaces call for different items. For example on a hallway you can very easily store a bike or your son's basketball but in a living room the shelves under the stairs can only store small objects that are suited for a place like that; books, photos, decorations, vases and so on. The space under your stairs represents an extra storage space when you need one, so even if you think you don't have anything to put on, build some shelves and make use of the that space. You will always have something to put there. Cabinets with doors under stairs. Recently cabinets came in different shapes, colors and materials to fulfill our need for storage. One thing though, was never attempted, at least until now. Now that we started this topic we are aware of the unused space under the stairs, so why not build cabinets with doors, locks and handles over there? Think about it; it has already closed sides and all you need to do is mount some doors and shelves. These door cabinets can be modular, meaning that you can use individual cabinets and mount them underneath your stairs or you can mount the doors and that closed space newly created can be used to store things. I have something similar in my parent's house. It's a closed space with a sliding door and build-in shelves where they store shoes. I remember when I was a kid and I was playing with my sister I used to hide there a lot. It is very practical because is in the hallway, near to the entrance and it is a quite large storage facility. We use it to store shoes but you can make individual compartments and store your golf clubs, soccer balls or anything else you need out of the way but somewhere safe and accessible. Drawers built under stairs. If you care about your things a lot and you want them organized and you don't really have the necessarily space for them mounting multiple drawers under the stairs suddenly becomes a very interesting idea. Imagine all that space filled with drawers; small drawers and large drawers. I saw something like this in a tailoring workshop, where because of the tight space the owner mounted drawers under the access stairs where they kept both fabrics and threads. They had everything organized vertically with distinct drawers for different types of fabric as well for the various types of threads. This is really a good idea if you need extra storage space. Drawers are a little bit more private and you can organize your things better than on shelves, not to mention that on the exterior the entire ensemble of drawers looks really great and adds a bit of sophistication and mystery into the room. If you like a more complex organizer for your things, you can make big vertical drawers that slide open and inside there could be smaller drawers. This would work great if you have two kids and one use one big drawers for each one and inside there could be smaller drawers with shirts, pants, socks and so on. Racks for wine under stairs. Wine is an important element from any great dinner. If you like wine and you like having a good wine always at hand you can make a special place for it under the stairs. I don't know why but I always see wine surrounded by wood, maybe because of its origins and how wine was initially stored; in wooden barrels. We can't find nowadays wine for sale in wooden barrels, only in glass bottles and I can't see a wine rack made from anything else but wood. Wine is usually stored in a cool place, kept away from direct sun light; if these conditions are not fulfilled the chemical properties of the wine might change, altering the wine making it sour or bitter. Despite all that, wine is better served at the room's temperature and only a few types of white wine are better served cold; you can use the refrigerator for that. Building a rack for wine is not that complicated and the final product filled with different bottles can serve very well as a decorative element. Both the rack and the individual bottles will definitely draw your guest's attention. This adds a bit of class and elegancy in your décor making it a warm, welcoming house. Storage under open wooden stairs. This next type of storage under the stairs combines perfectly style and functionality. The fact that the stairs are left opened you can use non-uniform deformations of the wood and other elements to achieve you desired storage units. That type of storage adds an enormous amount of texture in the room with steps and shelves as well as the items stored underneath. It is truly amazing how you can do all that impressive effect and still keep practicality in mind. I think that people that have modern homes would appreciate this type of storage because they are more inclined towards non-conformism scraping out traditional values and bringing and implementing indoors new concepts and ideas. This example does just that and transforms something common we already know in something else that can still serve as the thing that was designed for and some extra new features. Do not get me wrong on this, we are not reinventing the wheel here, we are just finding new ways and places for it.{pictures found on design-remount}.
