Vintage DIY Tabletop Earrings Organizer and Display Posted: 13 Aug 2011 09:25 AM PDT Women have so many accessories that all the time they new places for their storage. Usually they have many earrings, bracelets, necklaces, broaches, belts, purses, scarves, hats. All these items need some special places where they should keep them. Here it is an idea for where you can put your earrings. It is a vintage looking DIY Tabletop Earrings Organizer and Display. You can create it very easily and its cost is less than $10 if it happens to owe a staple gun.
Here are the materials you need for this project: picture frame, 12′ of picture wire, acrylic paint and brush, staple gun (or nails/tacks, etc). You can start out with a black 8×10 picture frame. You can also use two packages of some picture hanging wire. Then you can give the frame a couple coats of paint with this almost-but-not-quite white acrylic paint using the brushes pictured. Next, you can take a piece of wire and lay it across the back of the frame. You fold it over twice so that you get three strands folded together that were just a little longer than the width of the frame (this was to make the hanging wire a little thicker).Twist the wires loosely so they hold together, but loose enough so you can stick a post earring through there if you want! On the back of the frame you can use a pencil to mark where to hang the wire. I start with 1/4″ from the top opening of the frame, then space the remaining wire 2.25″ apart. You staple the wire to the frame, then fold and tuck the wire so it cannot come out. If you do not have a staple gun, you could also use small nails or tacks to wrap the wire around and hold in place. You can give the knots a few taps with a hammer to make sure there are not any sharp wire edges sticking out. |

Modern & Vintage in a Station House Posted: 12 Aug 2011 11:46 PM PDT When you decide to renovate a building, you must take into consideration the fact that it is not easy to do it and you have to know exactly what you want. The starting point was the same idea of renovating an old building, in fact an old Station Building for living. The result was a complete renovation, except a few original elements. The Scandinavian standard was maintained, the floors and walls being painted white and this gave the interior a nice clear aspect. The combination of modern furniture pieces with vintage Danish pieces transformed the space into a pleasant environment. In a generally white atmosphere, the black elements ensure a perfect contrast, while the numerous paintings on the walls and the splashes of color on the floor animate the entire house.
The vintage elements seem to exist in order to testify the past, while the modern elements try to keep up with time, without damaging the old footprint. Every room has at least a splash of color, which gives personality to the place. The black frame gives elegance, the colorful pillows give life to the simple place, the turquoise chair makes the difference in the bright room; each corner has at least a piece of furniture, a decorative object, something that emphasizes the beauty and uniqueness of this living space.{found on skonahem} |
The “Tre Volte’ A Two-Storey Private Dwelling in Kanagawa, Japan Posted: 12 Aug 2011 09:36 PM PDT Everyone has a hobby and things they love and want to be part of their life. Usually people like to include their passions in their homes and usually this is possible because we’re talking about things like plants, stamp collections, antiques etc. But what happens when someone really likes cars? Well, that person should probably limit itself to the garage. However, there are some people that are more stubborn and don’t want to do that. In that case it’s best if you try to make the best of the situation, like the owners of the "Tre Volte" did. Tre Volte is located in Kanagawa, Japan and it was designed by takeshi hirobe architects. The house is really not that special if you ignore the fours car from the living room and garden from the middle of the house. In other words, this is a unique project. The owner really likes the four cars that he owned and he wanted to design the new house around this idea, trying to find a way that would let him take his cars inside.
The house features three garage entrances on the street level and they are set back deep into the layout of the house. On the south end of the design there’s another sheltered garage that’s large enough for two vehicles. The entrances provide easy access and exit to the road and they are partially finished in glass. The second storey of the house hosts the private areas of the house, like the dining, living, kitchen, the bedrooms and the kid’s rooms. The whole structure is U-shaped and in the middle there’s a central courtyard that provides natural light and freshness. The courtyard is surrounded by sliding glass partitions.{found on designboom} |
Exotic OLÈ leather chair by Max Caspani Posted: 12 Aug 2011 06:07 PM PDT When it comes to furniture, nobody likes it to be plain and simple and with no distinguishable feature. We like simplicity, in fact the modern style seems to be minimalist. Nevertheless, it's very eye-catching and elegant. So what we really want is something simple that still has personality and at least one distinguished feature that takes it apart from all the other similar pieces. This is what OLÈ is trying to accomplish. OLÈ is a regular chair that offers elegance and style and a very subtle exotic touch. It was designed by Max Caspani. It might seem like a modern design but it actually dates back to 1993. It's surprising but some designs are timeless. Elegance and style don't age and neither did this chair. As you can see for yourselves, the design of the chair is actually quite simple. The base structure is made of steel, so it's durable and safe and it doesn't get ruined with time. The seat and back are covered with leather. It's not a very common combination of materials but it seems to do the trick in this case.
The leather is always stylish and elegant and it's one of them materials that will probably always be in fashion. OLÈ is a very functional and versatile chair. It could be used as a dining chair if you prefer a more distinguished look or a kitchen seat. It's also great for outdoor use on terraces and decks. It should be used in a protected area because the leather might get ruined in contact with rain. |

The bathroom is the most private and intimate area in the house and you want to emphasis that through the furniture. It has to be simple and functional. Decorations shouldn't even be part of the conversation, as they have nothing to do with that space. The bathroom needs to be as airy, clean and simple as possible. Here's a furniture collection that could help you achieve that intimate and cozy look you want. The Fogo collection was designed by Duravit Italia and it's a very elegant bathroom collection. It features very simple and elegant designs, as well as pleasant colors. The furniture pieces that are part of the Fogo collection have a very beautiful natural look, mostly because of the wood that was used in the process. Wood is a material that always inspires elegance and that also helps create a cozy, comfortable and inviting atmosphere. This is exactly how the bathroom should look like.
Until recently, wood has been avoided because of the nature of this material. The bathroom is usually a rough environment for wooden pieces because of all the steam and moisture. But nowadays that problem can be easily avoided by using a special type of wood. The Fogo collection features very practical and functional storage units, either fixed or mobile, as well as cabinets and sink units. All the pieces have been designed with a minimum of details, thus the minimalist look. |
