Posted: 25 May 2011 10:48 AM PDT

Whether it is a corporate house, hotel, branch office or home, visitors are introduced into the premises through the lobby. Undoubtedly, lobby is one of the most vital areas, as it is responsible for making the first and last impression. The way you decorate a lobby speaks about -who you are, what are your tastes and preference and what kind of lifestyle you follow. However, most of the homeowners tend to take the lobby decoration job very casually as they assume lobby decoration as a difficult and tedious job. Frankly speaking, lobby decoration is not all difficult. It just requires proper evaluation of requirements teamed with employment of creative ideas.

Furniture and furnishing – a lobby is an area where visitors are allowed to wait, and during this period the visitor requires to sit down, relax or read.  Therefore, chairs, couches and sofa are examples of furniture pieces that need to be introduced in the lobby. Coffee tables and end tables may also be selected if the area of the space lobby allows you to do so. Furniture featuring straight lines and minimalistic design would do the trick. Please keep in mind that decoration theme prevalent inside the premises. Needless to be mentioned but decoration of the lobby should be in alliance with the theme inside. Eclectic furniture can be used for funky and fun interiors, whereas eco friendly furniture is always a good selection in all situations.

Colors – The colors used to dress the walls of the lobby can make or break the space. As the purpose of the space is to greet people, consider incorporating warm and welcoming colors. Neutral colors such as pristine white, shades of ivory, elegant ochre, and vibrant shades as citrus yellow, aqua blue and soothing fuchsia shades are some color choices that may be selected. A simple scenic painting or a classic clock would simply look fabulous against perfect perfectly painted walls.

Lighting – the lighting in the lobby should be adequate, and properly illuminate the space. The fixtures you choose should be simple yet contemporary. Ideally, wall lighting fixtures and lamps are ideal selections for a lobby area. Chandeliers and pendant lights should be completely avoided as they would over decorate the area.  In addition, you may also consider introducing few table lamps and end lamps near the sitting area.

Simple and stylish accent tables

Posted: 25 May 2011 07:30 AM PDT

Accent tables are not a must-have in a home. There are other pieces of furniture that have to be included in the interior design and that are more practical and functional than accent tables. Still, sometimes you feel like there's something missing from your home when you realize that there's some free space and you don't know how to decorate it. A small table is usually a very good idea. It provides you with some extra storage space and it's the perfect piece of furniture when you need a place for your flowers or decorations.

MUN is a collection designed by Christine Starkenburg for Andaacht Studion. The collection features several accent table designs. Al of them are made of natural wood and they come in natural colors. Furthermore, the pieces are hand-made. It's a very simple collection, with simple designs. However, even like this, the pieces look very stylish and cute.

In order to add some fun to your décor, you can choose one that has colorful legs. They come in several colors that are usually neutral and not very bright or vibrant. Still, they look modern and chic. These accent tables are great for the living room, as a corner piece, or for the bedroom, when you need something to fill out the space. Also they would make a great piece for the hallways.{found on blosem}

How to decorate a living room this summer?

Posted: 25 May 2011 06:57 AM PDT

With the summer season rolling in, it is now the time to change the cozy, warm and heavily decorated living room to make it ideal for summer months. Needless to be mentioned, but as the summer season is related to lots of color and light, decorating the living room during this season is definitely known to be fun, interesting and enjoyable.

First of all, you need to remove the heavy curtains with busy designs that were installed during the winter season to keep the house warm. Light summer curtains in light fabrics and cool colors should be selected. Pure cotton, net and chiffon are some examples of fabrics that can be selected.

Enliven the chairs and couches by employing vibrant throws and colorful pillows and cushions. You may consider using woven basket throws in green and yellow. These are ideal selections for covering up if the weather cools down during the evening time. Also think out of the box when it comes to pillows. Amber and fuchsia ones trimmed with jute, butterfly, insects or sunflower themes, or unusual images such as sailboats and anchors.

Accentuate the living room by using summer lighting accessories. String lights are very interesting, easy to hang and give way to a festive look. Select designs such as hummingbirds, sunflowers and hibiscus. In addition, a seasonal touch can also be added by hanging paper lanterns featuring patterns such as Hawaiian scenes, marigolds and geometrical designs.

Roll up the warm area rugs and leave the floor bare. The firm surface will feel cool against the bare feet during the summer months. On the other hand, if you have wall to wall carpet installed, spread a cotton pastel rug over it.

The dark color candles should be replaced by white and pastel shade candles. Ensure that the scented candles you employ, gives away a mild floral smell.

The room can be easily decorated by using seasonal flowers. Both, fresh and permanent arrangements work well. The poinsettia can be replaced by a pot of miniature rose, sunflowers or freesias.

Hang lively and bright paintings on the wall featuring designs such as sandy beaches, water oceans, summer sailing, or bright and vibrant pictures of summery flowers.

Fun playhouse designs for kids

Posted: 25 May 2011 05:43 AM PDT

Childhood is great. You get to play all day long. But children are usually very anxious to grow up. They can't do anything about it, so they like to pretend that they are grown ups. They can't wait to have their own house and to be independent. But until then they have to be happy pretending. If only they would realize that it's not that much fun being a grown up, they might be able to enjoy their childhood while they can.

A great way of making your kids happy is to offer them an outdoor playhouse. This will keep them busy and I'm sure they will love it.Here are some examples of playhouses that your kid would love to have. They are designed for 3 to 14 years old children by Spanish company Green House. All the models have rounded corner and plexiglass windows. They are also painted with water0based paints so they are child-safe and environmental friendly. Most of the playhouses freature multiple rooms but the separation walls can be easily removed.

Choose one of these models or build one if your own. This way you can involve your kid in the process and it would be an opportunity to spend some time together while also having fun. So make your kid happy and build him a playhouse where he can have fun with his friends and toys while also spending some time outside. Kids like to have their own space where they feel like they're in control and where they let their imagination run wild.

Summer Themed Wallpaper for your House

Posted: 25 May 2011 04:17 AM PDT

I know that many people prefer white walls in their houses, but sometimes it is better to be surrounded by a bit of colour because this can lift up your spirit and make you feel fine. Any way, I consider wallpapers a very useful way of decorating your house because they look nice and most of them are washable, so in case there are some accidents involving children and crayons you can solve the problem immediately. And, since spring is at the end and the temperature outside already makes me think it’s summer, I thought I should share with you some summer themed wallpaper for your house.

Summer themed wallpaper means a floral design and bright warm colours. At least that is what I think. Big flowers on yellow or green background are perfect and sunflower patterns for example are really cool (and my favourite, too). Here are three pictures you can choose from if you want to get some inspiration in choosing your summer wallpaper. I know that wallpaper should stay for more than a season, but I also consider that a room in bright colours is perfect for your mood all through the year.

Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne’s Home in L.A.

Posted: 25 May 2011 02:50 AM PDT

I sometimes wonder what it’s like to be a star, to have all eyes on you, with very little private life left and all the details in your life and house made public. I also wondered what a rock star home looks like. And I found the answer to my latter question when I saw the great pictures of Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne’s home in L.A.

Sharon picked this house as the possibility to start over after the long and busy period of live shows and they also wanted to have some ocean views. So she bought the house and wanted to decorate it in a unique style. She wanted to show something of her romantic features, but also to combine them with the dark Goth style of her husband’s, the famous rock star that used to sing for Black Sabbath. My opinion is that she did a great job, choosing all the furniture and accessories carefully and combining them in the most fortunate manner.

You will be surprised to see the style adopted by the home’s designer, Martin Lawrence-Bullard, a dear friend of Sharon’s. The furniture and most of the design suggest a mid nineteenth century style , but this is combined with features of modern style, resulting in an impressive look. Because the house is pretty large you will see some unusual places like a foyer that is decorated remarkably with two chairs covered in white leather surrounding an ellegant round French coffee table with a bronze sculpture on.

There’s also an atrium that shows only a glimpse of Ozzy’s black days as a rock musician and it is all plastered in black Venetian wallpaper and has black furniture and a black wooden eagle. The living room is comfy and nice, being designed in a surprising combination of light blue and brown, with leather armchairs and a nice collection of Italian puppets and dolls.

The atmosphere is completed by the over sized floor lamp and clock and the welcoming brick fireplace in the middle. The bedroom is a symphony of velvet and the whole house shows good taste and refinement. So take a look at the pictures if you are as curious as I was about their home.

Nouveau Lounge by Kate McCreary

Posted: 24 May 2011 10:40 PM PDT

American designer Kate McCreary has used her imagination and creativity to come up with an unusual and original design for a lounge chair. The Nouveau lounge, as it is called, was inspired by the signature elements of the Art Nouveau period. So its bold and organic forms look very interesting and the overall image is impressive.

This particular lounge chair would look quite beautiful in a contemporary home. It has a very deceptive look as the cushions that form the seat have a texture and color very similar to the ones of the concrete. Actually, they are made of foam, so it's just a false impression. It would have been interesting if they were really made on concrete, but this would have been a disadvantage for the comfort issue. Still, it's a cool idea.

This makes this lounge chair a very nice addition to a contemporary home where this kind of pieces are very appreciated. And because of the close resemblance with the concrete it would look particularly good outside. You could really fool someone with this chair. It's made of Italian gray wool and a handmade steel frame. Each bolster is made of a specific density foam, so it's a very comfortable piece. Besides being bold and very good-looking. It has a very dynamic look and a contrasting appearance. It's harsh and rough on the outside but soft and cozy on the inside.

How to choose Pet-Friendly Fabrics?

Posted: 24 May 2011 08:55 PM PDT

If you have a cat or dog as a pet, you must know that every interior decorating element will not work for you. Just like small children at home, you need to take into consideration your pets while decorating your home.

One of the most difficult tasks to handle with pets at home is the selection of fabrics for various areas of the home. Shedding and scratching are some common problems associated with pet. However, you will be pleased to know that the problem can be easily handled by choosing pet friendly fabrics. Fortunately, these days there are umpteen numbers of options available for the pet friendly fabrics.

Selection of leather as a fabric for home with pets is undoubtedly a good choice. Animal hair slides off leather and thereby gives way to easy cleaning. However, there exists a chance of leather fabric being ripped off by the claws if the pet gets frisky and takes a leap on the fabric.

Therefore, ensure to invest in a good quality thick and pure leather fabric only.

Denim fabric may also be selected. The most significant feature of denim fabric is that it features a rugged look, is very easy to clean and is available in several hues besides the typical blue.

Keep it in mind to always select un textured and plain fabrics, so that hairs do not get trapped in between the fabrics. In addition, it is also very difficult to remove stains from untextured fabrics. Un-textured fabrics can be easily made interesting by throwing in colorful pillows and cushion covers of varied sizes. However, patterned and self designed fabrics may be selected as they are excellent in hiding pet dirt and funk.

Always ensure to select colors of fabric close to the hair of your pet so that fallen hairs do not show off prominently, and you need not clean the sofas and couches every day. A tan or white fabric for couches may not be the appropriate choice for homes with black haired cats or dogs.

A microfiber material is also an attractive option, which may be selected. Both, a slipcover and couch may be selected in this fabric. The most significant feature of microfiber material is that it is very easy to clean and maintain.
