| Soumaya Art Museum in Mexico City Posted: 10 Feb 2011 11:03 AM PST I bet that your reaction after seeing this photo will be: “What on Earth is this?”. I thought the same, too. You might think it’s a UFO or some other kind of extraterrestrial spaceship. Actually this is an art museum situated in Mexico City and its name is Soumaya. It was funded by some rich guy from Mexico called Carlos Slim, who names the building after his late wife. The architect was Slim’s son-in-law Fernando Romero. This unusual building was made with the purpose of housing the art exhibitions and painting from all over the world and Slim hired the best team to do that – the same one who built the Opera House in Sydney and the Bird’s Nest Stadium in China. The bold building is a curvy shape covered with 16,000 hexagons of aluminum that spark in the sunshine since 2010, the year of the inauguration. The irregular shape of the building has a cube as the base and it has elongated ends. The architect and the building team used the latest technology in order to be able to finish the project in the smallest details. The shape of the museum is said to have been inspired by Rodin’s sculptures and the aluminum on the surface suggests the traditional Mexican culture, both as shape and material. Amazing piece of architecture in short.

| Lotus Temple in New Delhi, India Posted: 10 Feb 2011 10:22 AM PST Architects need a lot of inspiration to create new and unique things that will look good. They need to make buildings that will be both functional and nice looking. That is why many times they find their sources of inspiration in nature, in the plants and relief shapes that surround them. For example this nice temple in India is also called Lotus Temple because it looks just like a lotus flower. The lotus flower is a traditional symbol of India and the Indians simple adore it and also use it when they want to decorate their homes or women.
The architect of this masterpiece was Fariborz Sahba and the building was finished in 1986. It looks just like a lotus flower with all the petals meeting at the top, some longer than others and some of them staying at the base, on the sides. It shows beauty and expresses what the architect meant and that is why it is considered as belonging to the Expressionist style. It is considered to be an extremely beautiful building and it was often called the “Taj Mahal of the 20th century” and was awarded a lot of prizes and distinctions for its unique architecture.

This will certainly make your day a bit better. Flowers are very good for designing both homes and gardens and if you really love them, you would rather have them planted in pots than cut and placed in a vase where they will die in maximum a week. These planters from the Pottery Barn are made of metal and can be mounted on walls. they are perfect for the outdoors , but you can also use them for the inside of your home. Any way, the idea is to use them as support for flowers that are freshly cut, so a kind of metal vases that can be mounted on walls, you can choose to plant the flowers directly in them, like in any flower pot or use them as support for the flower pots. | How to Turn Your Boy’s Room into a Pirate’s Cove Posted: 10 Feb 2011 05:42 AM PST We have all seen pirate movies and they fascinated us , especially when we were children. Now children have the famous pirate character Jack Sparrow played by Johhny Depp and all the boys want to be pirates and to have a spacial place that looks like a pirate’s ship. Well, if you are a bit creative you can turn your son’s room into a really nice pirate’s cove. It’s up to you if you want to spedn more or less money, if you want it very detailed or only to hint at a pirate’s “cove”. Here are a few tips concerning what you can use in your attempt to do this. The first thing to do when you start this project is to paint the walls of the house in blue and then to purchase a bed that looks like a pirate ship. You can find one if you try hard enough, but you can also improvise something and just add a few boards that will make the present bed look like a ship. Then try to decorate the whole room with objects linked to the same theme: pirate clocks, bedsheets, pillows, curtains, carpets, etc. You can purchase them on the Internet or spend some quality time with your child handcrafting them together. The old toys can be added a bandana or a patch on the eye, a striped t-shirt and they will immediately turn into pirates.
Use all kind of stickers and pirate decorations and place them everywhere in the room. Order them online and you will find a big variety you can use. It’s a great idea to place a world map on the wall or, if you are a bit skilled in drawing, to draw a treasure map on the bedroom wall, with a big red X to mark the “treasue” and skulls on the way.Use a board or some other kind of sign to place on the door and write your son’s name there, mentioning he’s a pirate – “Pirate Ben’s bedroom” I would love it and I’m 34 ! So I can guarantee you that you will enjoy all this time and will get closer to your kid this way. Have fun when doing this!
