Electrically Heated Towel Rack

Posted: 06 Feb 2011 01:55 AM PST

It’s still winter and the worst part of the day for me is the moment when I have to get out of the warmth of my bed, go to the bathroom and wash my face with ice-cold water and then wipe my face with a cold towel. It’s like I am peeling the skin off my face and believe me, this is anything but pleasant. I know, I could wash my face with warm water, but it takes too long to wait for the water to heat up in the morning and I don’t have too much time. And then I thought of a trick: what if I use a warm towel after that? Nice idea, but I don’t have a heater in the bathroom, so I have to cross the whole house to pick a towel I put on the bedroom heater the previous evening. Hm, annoying. Then I found this amazing electrically heated towel rack.

You can fix this towel rack on your bathroom wall and use it only when you are home or when you want to – it’s not necessary to keep it turned on every moment. It is electrically heated, so you have to plug it in and then press the ON button when you want it to work. The rack is made of sturdy aluminum, so it will warm up instantly and warm your towel, too. You can use it for warming the entire bathroom if you want to. It is barely one meter tall, it is very easy to install and the price is a real bargain – only $79.95.

6 Pieces of Advice for Designing a Bathroom

Posted: 06 Feb 2011 01:19 AM PST

When you first move into a house, you want to make the necessary arrangements so as to show your personality and taste in everything inside your house. So you start re-designing the house or at least some parts of it. And one of the first places that need to be changed is the bathroom. But even if you are re-designing it or making it more modern, you should consider a few things before and while doing this. Here are six pieces of advice with what to do when designing a bathroom.

1. First of all, before even starting thinking about the future color of the bathroom walls and the future design, you should make sure all the plumbing you have in the bathroom is totally functional and everything works perfectly fine, that there are no water leaks and the pipes are not rusted or a century old. There’s nothing more shameful than a modern looking bathroom with bad plumbing.

2. The second thing to consider is the bathroom tiling. Make sure you use the right kind of tiles for the bathroom and it would be better to use that modern non-slipping tiling that is available now in the stores. If you have small children you will certainly appreciate this piece of advice, as they will not slip on the bathroom floor, even if it gets a bit wet. You can also choose to have some under-tile heating and the kids will be able to wander around the house barefoot without any risk of getting a cold. Also choose the right model – if you are a single man just choose some dark colored tiles and if you are a merry person with a large family, pick a floral design.

3. Choose the right kind of sink for your bathroom. Sinks are very important, as they are the central piece of any bathroom. If you are a romantic person you can choose those rounded sinks with a support looking like a foot or you can choose a simple square sink colored in pale blue, depending on the kind of personality you have. Just make sure you like it and feel comfortable when using it. It is also a good idea to match it with the rest of the bathroom or else you will have a mess of a bathroom.

4. Step number 4 – choose the right bathtub. If you are a sports person and only have showers purchase a modern shower cabin instead of a bathtub . You can choose a combination of a shower cabin with a small bathtub or buy a huge romantic bathtub with legs – whatever makes you feel relaxed and fine. But make sure the size of the bathtub matches the size of your bathroom, as big bathtubs do not belong in small bathrooms.

5. Bathroom lighting is very important. From my experience you should have two kinds of lighting systems in the bathroom: one diffuse and romantic one that you can use when bathing, as you don’t need a lot of lights when you relax in a hot bath and one more powerful for the moments when you make up and your husband shaves. In both situations the result will be a mess if you do not have proper lighting. That is why my advice is to use some light bulbs that attach to the mirror, coming from above or from the side, and which can be turned on and off separately from the other lights.

6. And one last piece of advice: choose the other pieces of furniture in the bathroom wisely. Use them only if you need them. If you do not have enough space, just use the bathroom shelves instead. Combine all the things in the bathroom to match each other and to fit the general style of the bathroom design and you will have the perfect bathroom.

How to Decorate Your House in White?

Posted: 06 Feb 2011 12:29 AM PST

I love white homes because they show you cleanliness and they also feel welcoming. Besides, if you have small kids like I do it’s almost impossible to have colored walls because kids simply love painting the walls and use crayons both on paper and on all the walls of the house. So it is easier to paint a room in white or to paint only a part of a room than to do the same thing using colors. But if you want to arrange a whole room in white you should know a few things because otherwise you risk of having a really dull house , looking like a very clean and disinfected hospital room.

1. The first rule is to use different shades of white for decorating a whole room in white. You can pick the right kind of white depending on the kind of decoration you want to use. For example using white with pale shades of blue inspire cleanliness, using yellowish or brownish shades of white express a vintage decor, so use vintage furniture and carpets plus nice vintage decorations like statues, vases, etc. Using white with a few shades of gray plus a few dark gray or even back details will make a perfect modern design.

2. Use different textures and materials or else the whole room will be simply boring. Even if all the things in a room are white, if their textures are different, they will look fine together and will give a three dimensional impression.

3. Use small decorations of a different color, for example orange pillows, an orange vase and two orange frames for the paintings displayed ion the wall. It will make the atmosphere lively and nice. Or you can use a small blue carpet with a blue ribbon for the curtains and a small blue bedside lamp, all in the same shade of blue.

4. Use white decorations , but displayed in a different color of the frame: for example three white elephants three square black shelves or on a brown mantlepiece.

5. Use plants to make the room full of life and to add a bit of color. Or you can use a vase full of colorful flowers instead.

These are just a few tricks, but if you have some more ideas, please share them with us.

Pentagonal Coffee Table by Greg N. Frederickson

Most tables are only functional and they are made in a big number in the furniture factory. They all look the same and can be found in many homes. But if you want something different you can either design it yourself if you are good at it or you can look for unique items that have been designed by creative people and made in limited edition. Of course, they will cost more than the usual ones, but you will have some out of the ordinary pieces of furniture. This pentagonal coffee table is an amazing table that was designed by Greg N. Frederickson and was made at his home, but he wanted to share his ideas with us.

The frame and the legs of the table are made of wood and the base is made of bronze. Of course it took a lot of work that involved wood sculpture, wax models and finally the bronze molding until the final design was ready to be used. Even if it looks amazing, you should know this is nothing like a flat surface, but all the rhombus shapes and all the edges are three dimensional, so that you can touch them and feel every shape and irregularity. That is why you can’t use this table properly unless you cover it with glass. The colored shapes were added later just to see what they look like and they are made of plastic, but still looking great. So this is what makes this coffee table so special.
