Bathroom Shelves

Bathrooms are meant to be used only a few times a day, but it’s very important to feel comfortable there, especially when you are having a shower or a bath and want to relax and be ready for a new day at work. That is why it would be better to have all the things you need within reach. This aspect is very important and there’s nothing more unpleasant that getting into a hot bubble bath and realizing your shampoo is twelve feet away, in the cabinet that happens to be in the hallway. Not to mention the hysteria if you have small kids and they are waiting for you with the face stuck to the bathroom door. In this case the very simple solution is to place some small, but very useful bathroom shelves.

Of course you must choose the right kind of shelves for your bathroom, but they all should be made of stainless steel, glass or plastic because these are the only materials that are not affected by steam and water, all the other ones deriving from wood suffering all kinds of unpleasant changes in their structure. The place for the shelves can also differ a lot. If your bathroom is large enough you can choose these shelves to be situated on the side of the bathtub and this way everything you need will be within reach.

Then there is the possibility to place these shelves next to the mirror. There are even some special models of mirrors that have some small shelves attached, the design being really creative and useful and you can admire this in the picture. But my favourite bathroom shelves are by far the ones you can place in the corner, right next to the bathtub. You can use these nice-looking polished brass supports ($300-400) that are specially designed for the corner, the  natural fiber corner little baskets or maybe simply some well-cut pieces of glass or transparent thick plastic that fits the corner perfectly, allowing you to deposit there everything you need.

How to choose a lamp shade?

Lamp shades are an integral part of the overall décor. They do much more than providing a shade to the light from the lamp. The right lamp shade can totally transform the look of the room. Selection of the lamp shade is as important as selection of other decorating items of the room.

Here is a set of instructions to assist you choose the right lamp shade –

The first step of choosing a lamp shade is to measure the height of the lamp. The thumb rule is to select a shade which is two third of the height of the base. This proportion assures that the bottom or top does not look too heavy. You also need to ensure that the selected lampshade properly shields, the neck or the harp of the lamp shade. Or else it would appear like a lady showing off her slip.

Secondly, you need to ascertain the width of the lamp shade. The widest part of the lamp shade should be half inch wide on both the sides than the widest part of the lamp. You also need to consider the location of the lampshade when deciding the width of the lamp shade so that no body crashes into it. Usually, the standard size for a lampshade is from 17 to 20 inches and anything above 20 inches would be too big.

Thirdly, you need to decide the shape of the lampshade. The shape of the lampshade should be selected in accordance to the shape of the lamp. Candlestick lamps are known to support all shapes of lamp shades. However, if you have a round lamp, it is best to select a round shade. Similarly, an angular or square base will look best if paired with a square lampshade.

Fourthly, you need to decide the color shade of the lampshade. The color should be chosen in accordance to the overall décor and the color scheme of the room. In addition, you need to keep in mind that opaque shades do not illuminate the room. As a result, opaque shade is perfect for accent lighting. If the lamp is going to be used for reading purpose then it is recommended to choose translucent shades.

Lampshades are available in an array of textures. When selecting a texture, remember that lampshades are prone to accumulation of dust, and some textures may be very hard to maintain.
