Bedbugs have been associated with humans since early history. Bedbugs are simply a nightmare as they love dining on human's blood. Generally, their dining hours are just before the dawn time, so probably you will find infestations in the areas where you and your family sleep. Bed bugs are common in hotels, motels and inn, but they can also be found in homes if cleanliness is not ensured.

Today, most of the people do not know about them and how to identify them. Identification of bedbugs is very important as the infestations grow at a rapid pace. Moreover, since these bugs do not resemble other insects, a close inspection is necessary. Most of the time, you will not even realize that there bedbugs on your bed, unless you have been bitten, or you notice blood stains on your sheets from crushed bugs, but there are few things you can do to identify them.

1) First of all, you need to know what Bedbugs are, and what their habits to recognize them and control them. Bed bugs are nothing but blood sucking insects that hide in crevices and crack during the day and come out to feed during night time.

2) Bed bugs are small and just one fourth inches in length, ovate in shape and are flat like a pancake, usually red or amber in color, and are wingless.

3) Look for eggs of bed bugs. Bedbug eggs may be found along the sides and joints of the mattress. Bedbug eggs are white in color and pin sized and glued on the mattress or other parts as the eggs are sticky and gluey when laid by the female bedbugs. Since bedbugs eggs are tiny, use a flashlight and magnifying glass when you are looking for them. Immature bedbugs are light yellow in color.

4) Look for signs of bedbugs. Bedbugs are known to leave spots behind. Red blood smears, pale colored spots, brown spots and fecal spots may be found on the bed sheets, head board, bed frame, and even inside the mattress.

5) The bite marks caused by bed bugs will be red, itchy, burns and may look like a small welt, and the common location would be around the stomach area.

6) Bed bugs, generally do not give off any distinct odor, but in some cases, they may give off an odor similar to coriander.
