Dear Freecycle Members,
Ontario Freecycle approved two posts yesterday from wbs1671. This member states that they are moving back East on 12/3/10 and that "everything must go."
While we appreciate the offer to give away many possessions through a group such as Freecycle, the person who posted these offers no doubt meant well but has a tight time structure and did not expect such a high response.
It has come to our attention that due to the high response they will not assign items to individuals but will set up a time for anyone to come and get what they want. Had we known that this would be how the person offering the items would handle the response, we would not have approved the posts.
Again, they probably meant well but did not expect to have to deal with so many responses.
However, we do not allow "Come and Get It" type posts for the following reasons:
-Since the purpose of Freecycle is to conserve resources, this includes gas and time which could very well be wasted by many people coming to a specific address and finding that the item they were hoping for is already taken.
-Sometimes there are arguments when two people want the same item.
-Because our posts go out to hundreds of members this could create a crowd problem for the person who is giving the items away.
We just want to let you know that if you got a response telling you a time and place, first come, first served that it is up to you to decide if you want to participate in this. We will not approve it nor take any responsibility for any problems that arise.
