[OntarioCaliforniaFreecycle] Personal Information on Freecycle

Hello to all Members,

As we are coming into the holiday season our posts usually triple in
amount so I just want to send a short reminder to everyone about how to
submit your requests so they won't require us to edit or reject them,
thereby delaying the process. Please take a moment to review this
information.

Only FOUR types of posts are acceptable:

OFFER: (item you are giving away) CITY ( not zip code).

WANTED: (item you are looking for) CITY (this is the city you live in,
not "your city", not zip code, not cities you are willing to go to--you
can state that in the post). We have tried to fill that information in when someone leaves it out, but not everyone has told us where they live.

TAKEN: (item you have given to someone in response to an OFFER). CITY.
If you get several responses for an item you have offered, you may
want to send a TAKEN and keep a list of those who expressed interest in
the item in case the original person does not show up. That way you
don't have to re post the item.

I have accepted PPU (planned pick up) since our original set up allowed
it. It is not really necessary and just creates more mail for everyone.
If you send a PPU as of this point, I will change it to TAKEN.

RECEIVED: (item you have gotten) CITY. This is sent by you to tell
other list members you are no longer looking for the item you posted as
a WANTED.

Do not write to Ontario Freecyle to respond to an offer. Write to the
person you are responding to. Same goes for Thank You notes...although
I think it is very nice to send a thank you, that is between you and
the other person.

PRIVACY

Another important issue is this: NO PRIVATE INFORMATION. Although it's
fun sharing what you are doing or why you are giving the item away, we
will not allow this for everyone's safety. Your posts goes to hundred
of strangers in the area. We will not post information about people's
children, vacation times, etc. Also no address or phone number. You
may share any of that with the person you end up doing the transaction
with. But not on the original Freecycle site.

We do not allow personal circumstances or NEED to be a consideration in
the Freecycle exchange. We are not a social service agency. You don't
have to explain to anyone why you want something or why you are giving
it away. Keep it simple. That goes along with the purpose of
Freecycle--to keep usable items out of landfills and see that people who
can use them give the more time. We will send those posts back to you
for rewriting.

If you have any questions, I or my faithful wonderful moderator, Debbie,
are happy to answer any questions.

Also, anyone who wants to join us in moderating, please let me know. We
sure could use another person.
