Posted: 02 Sep 2012 08:15 AM PDT I went to the museum yesterday and I saw some old wooden spoons. I loved their natural appearance and the way the wood looked and had a special patina after some years. I admit it looked even better when it was not covered with dye or a protective layer of lacquer. i do not know why but aged wood looks incredibly nice, thing that is proven by this Bent Malden Bookcase. It is made of reclaimed wood and it has a natural wax finish that makes it possible for it to age naturally without cracking or fading its colour. This particular bookcase looks so modern and it really has a special design, bringing together some old things like reclaimed wood and new and totally cool ways of making a piece of wood come to life. The bookcase is made to look like it is made of different compartments put together and assembled, when it is not true. Each shelf is completing the one on top of it and where there are two united compartments there will be only one on top.
The bookcase it not straight, but rather bent and this seems to be perfect in a circular room. But since this is very rare, the bookcase will look peculiar in a normal study room. The special look of the bookcase is given mostly by the marks left by the former owners or circumstances of the reclaimed wood that was taken from buildings, barns, old homes and so on. So I guess you can actually get something really beautiful out of the trash. And selling for $5,595.00. 5 Ways To Decorate With Blues & Grays Posted: 02 Sep 2012 05:53 AM PDT Choosing a color scheme can be a big decision, especially in the biggest and most public parts of your home. So, today I’ve decided to share one of my favorite color schemes and give you some ideas on how to decorate different parts of your home using this super relaxed combo. I’m a huge fan of comfort and class when it comes to my home. And this combo has both, it’s clean and bright no matter what shade you choose and no matter how you decide to embrace either shade it’ll be a room everyone will flock to for its easy vibes! Blue and gray have great energy. Together, they’re a bit masculine, calming and definitely laid back. But, if used correctly you can always bring in some super funky, eclectic vibes as well. Let’s take a look at some wonderful inspiration. 1. Neutral Blue & Gray Hues. Using blues and grays that are a bit more neutral than whole are great for combining as the foundation of the room. Laying out the room with a cleaner cool blue and lighter gray can make for super fun accessorizing. Mix in some brighter shades using some throw pillows, curtains or wall decor to make the colors pop.
2. Modernize the colors. Usig a lighter blue and a deep charcoal will enhance both of the color’s undertones. They compliment each other and create a crisp, modern appeal to any room. I love this combo for a home office or library. 3. Create a cozy corner. Blues and grays have the posses an undeniable effect to create a cozy atmosphere, so you must utilize it. Instead of using blues on the wall, try to use gray as the background to create a warm but cool effect. Dress the space up with blue furniture and darker shades of gray! 4. Try different shades. Instead of the usual baby blues and navy … instead of the charcoals and elephant grays .. try using shades that are a little different. Royal blues and a silvery hue will create something quite magical and eclectic, especially if you decide to pair it with some unique home accessories. 5. Add other neutrals. Realize that you can add other neutral colors to the blue and gray combo without taking away from the scheme. Creams and white work really well with both of these colors and only enhance their tones. You can create a room that’s a bit more delicate and feminine by adding either. The Eco-Friendly SOFT Rocker by Sheila Kennedy Posted: 02 Sep 2012 03:35 AM PDT Anything that's eco-friendly is well-received by the population. But when the design is also stylish, then the chances are double. It's the case of the SOFT Rocker. It's a lounge chair with a design that impresses on many levels. First of all, the lounge chair is very stylish. It has a contemporary design, a fluid and bold shape and a simple and yet very interesting look. The delicate, curved lines have a certain delicacy that contrasts but also resembles with the material used to craft the piece. The SOFT Rocker has a wooden construction with a double base and beautifully-carved details on the bottom. Another interesting aspect about the lounge chair is the fact that it's also an eco-friendly piece of outdoor furniture. The SOFT Rocker was created by Professor Sheila Kennedy and it allows you to relax, save energy and also recharge your devices. It does that thanks to the 12-ampere hour battery that stores energy during the sunlight hours.
That energy can then be used to recharge several devices such as a laptop or phone. Also, the energy can be used to light up the lounge chair during the night. This way it will be a very eye-catching outdoor decoration. The lounge chair is a very stylish and very clever creation that combines the pleasure of spending time outdoors with that of reading a book or surfing the internet on your phone or laptop.{found on freshome}. Vine Umbrella Holder from Target Posted: 02 Sep 2012 02:24 AM PDT It’s officially autumn and even if today was a wonderful warm day just like a summer day I am expecting to see some rain clouds really soon. It is after all normal to have rain in autumn, so I must dig for my umbrella and keep it somewhere handy. Speaking of which, I hate it when people enter my house with a wet umbrella in their hands and don’t know what to do with it. It’s embarrassing to place it on the floor, as it will make a small pond until you have to leave and also it’s uncomfortable holding it in your hands, with water drops dripping all over the place. SO the saving idea is to have a small umbrella stand. It can be really useful and also a plus to the general design of the entryway if it is nice. I guess this Vine Umbrella Holder from Target qualifies as both. This umbrella stand is beautiful, so perfect for decorating the hallway. It is also very useful since it saves your floor from water and mus. And it has a very nice and natural design, inspired from nature, from the forest, with wild vines climbing up the stand and a romantic patina that makes it look antique. The frame of this stand is made of metal and has an iron finish, looking great in any season. Target offers it for sale for 59.99. Personalized DIY Union Jack Dresser Posted: 02 Sep 2012 12:00 AM PDT Though there are so many combinations of colors that represent something or go so well together I will always be attracted to that of blue and yellow.+The combination of blue and yellow will always bring a big smile on my face reminding me of my unforgettable Swedish experience. The colors represent the national flag of Sweden and for me they represent the nicest combination of colors. Although the following DIY project has not much in common with Sweden besides the combination of colors used it touched one of my sensitive strings. Actually the project it refers to a personalized DIY Union Jack Dresser. The Union Jack represents the national flag of United Kingdom and its current design dates from the Union of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801.There is a combination of three national flags using the Cross of Saint Andrew counterchanged with the Cross of Saint Patrick and over all the Cross of Saint George. Instead of the original combination of white, red and blue, yellow, white and blue are used for it.
Zinsser Primer, three shades of latex paint, small foam paint rollers, painter's tape, raw wood dresser and knobs are some of the materials used for this nice project. Blue was used as the base color for the entire raw wood dresser. Then, the borders were taped off for the large white stripes and in the end some stripes were taped off for the small colored lines. Although the project may take some time its colorful and personalized design make you forget about any efforts.{found on lovelyindeed}. Lovely DIY Recycled Leather & Wood Shelf Posted: 01 Sep 2012 12:19 PM PDT Whether remodeling your kitchen, dreaming of a master bathroom addition or simply repairing a leaky faucet, a DIY project is a very rewarding task. Today we would like to present you an extremely nice project for your home, a hanging leather shelf. First of all, you will need 2 wood boards, 2-4 long leather belts which are not hard to find, but unreasonably overpriced, some carpet tacks/nails, a hammer, a measuring tape/ruler and a pencil. Once you gather all these elements you can start your project by marking both boards 2″ in from either side on the top and bottom. Next, strap the belts together to create two identical loops. Hold the first plank inside the two belt loops, with the loops positioned at the 2″ mark, and reposition the belt buckles to where you like, making sure they aren’t aligning with where you need to affix the shelves.
Then you have to hammer three nails into each bealt. Once you’ve done that, you should flip the board so the front edge is facing forward and hammer one nail into the front of each board. Next, position the second board 10″ above the first one. Hammer a nail into the front of the second board. We’re almost done! The boards are secured in place, so now pull the tops of the loops tight and measure each one to ensure they are exact. Once your loops are identical heights, your shelf is ready to hang. This lovely DIY project can help you add some flair to your home. With the help of a friend, a level to ensure the shelves are straight and longer nails, you can have your own recycled shelf.
