Villa SK – an addition by Atelier Thomas Pucher Posted: 07 Aug 2012 10:55 AM PDT The project for Villa SK, as this structure is called, took an unpredicted turn. Initially, the idea was to rebuild an already existing house. It was a single family residence located in Graz, Austria. However, after rethinking everything, the architects and the clients agreed that it would be better to preserve that part and to create an annex instead. It was a decision also based on the limited budget. The annex extends the living area into the garden and allowed the reorganization of the entire structure. This way, the existing house was reserved to the private areas such as the bathrooms, the children's rooms and the bedrooms. The annex contains the public spaces such as the living room, dining room and kitchen. It's a sort of extended terrace with both indoor and outdoor spaces. The project was developed by Atelier Thomas Pucher and it involves an area of 240 square meters.
The extension is volume with large glass panels that allow a strong connection with the outdoors. Other materials used include rough brick and concrete. The idea was to create a contrasting annex that would stand out. The rough stone walls are complemented by the supportive metal elements and the roof structure. The contrasting materials are just a way of making the annex stand out. It has an overall simple design, typical to contemporary projects as opposed to the original house.{found on archdaily and pics by Lukas}. Minimalist triple hanging pendants Posted: 07 Aug 2012 09:00 AM PDT Minimalist and chic, this triple pendant lamp will look stylish in a variety of decors. Its simplicity gives it versatility and allows it to be included in many types of spaces. For example, it would make a subtle focal point for the living room but it would also look nice in the dining room, above the table. It could also make a beautiful addition to the kitchen, depending on its size, or to the home office or even the bedroom. This 3 globe pendant light has a very simple and clean design, with narrow and delicate lines. The combination of materials sued to make it is also well-balanced. The three globes are hanging from a ceiling plate made of solid walnut, with an eco-friendly oil finish. They are attached to the plate by red cords and they add a very subtle pop of color thus creating a balanced contrast.
The globes are hanging down 24'' from a 25'' long base. This makes the pendant light suitable for spaces with high ceilings or with very bright and airy interior designs. The pendant comes with an easy to install ceiling mount kit with drywall anchors. It also features three extra-large clear glass globes that emanate a warm and pleasant light. Residence wich was built among the greens of Selva, Spain Posted: 07 Aug 2012 08:21 AM PDT This is by all means a house that doesn't fall under the influence of no known standard or traditional building techniques.I don't know what were the initials ideas of what was in the designer mind at that time but one thing is certain, this place was build in a way that the barriers between outside and inside are almost imperceptible. As you can see all around the house are implemented ideas that let as much sun in, let the air flow naturally as well as integrating the landscape in the decoration. Located in Spain this new design tries to perfectly balance the natural climate and environment with good living conditions. In that spirit the house had to look a little different. Therefore, the beautiful living space is arranged around the house courtyard and the marvelous greenhouse, which has a retractable roof made of wooden planks that span over four meters long.
To redefine mobility inside the household that greenhouse I was talking you about can be very easily transformed into a veranda. Given the climate condition, this place could be perfect to just lay low and relax, enjoy the sun or read a good book during the summer. Also another feature to this possibility is the energy consumption; with a better air flow during winter you can save up to 60% the energy consumption. You might have already spotted the movable wooden panels. With those you can control the amount of light that comes into the kitchen, bathroom and the communal den, therefore controlling the temperature too.{pictures by Jaime Sicilia}. Posted: 07 Aug 2012 07:40 AM PDT Do you often get tired of having to gather and put away magazines and papers that are scattered all over the house? Build yourself a magazine rack and everything will change. You'll have a place where you can store your magazines, where you know you can always find them and where you know they're safe. This will also help you keep your home more organized. There are lots of ways in which you can make your own magazine rack. One way would be to use a stud. Also, make sure you have 14' of electrical cord, four 3'' screws, 2 shades of paint, sandpaper and two pieces of galvanized plumber's tape. The stud needs to be 2x3x96″. First measure it and cut it into two 16'' long pieces and two 29'' long pieces. The dimensions may vary. Form a frame and secure it with screws. Also make some holes for the electrical cord. Then start painting. Use one color for the inside and another one for outside of the frame. Of course, this part can be customized however you want.
Next, take the electrical cord and make the racks on which the magazines will stay. Pull it as tight as you can do it doesn't sag anywhere. You can use something else if you prefer. Now your magazine rack is complete. This is just one example. You can adjust the dimensions or the design and you can use different materials if you want.{found on abeautifulmess}. 4 Easy Tips To Help You Summer-Ize Your Home Posted: 07 Aug 2012 04:34 AM PDT As soon as we see the sun up in the sky and the friendly weather outside we know that summer is here. We just go get our summer clothes from the closet and we're ready to enjoy a new season of happiness. But for our home it's not that simple. It needs to get ready for summer too and this might take some time and effort. Here are some tips to help you get started. 1. Add color. A home that's not bright and colorful is not ready for summer. This is an opportunity for you to think bold and to try new prints and patterns that would otherwise not complement your décor as nicely as they do in the summer. You can add color with the help of pillows, cushions and other accessories.
2. Use light textiles. For a bright and airy décor you should also consider using light and breezy textiles. Avoid having dark colors and fabrics such as plush velvets in your home during summer. A few quick changes would be a good idea. Things such as tablecloths, rugs, pillow cushions and sofa covers can all be temporarily replaced in this season so you can use those to bring in some light and summery textures. 3. Decorate the outdoor areas. During summer we all love to spend time outdoors. So if you have an outdoor space such as a garden, a patio or even a balcony you should make it your home for the summer. Try to take advantage of the beautiful weather and the fresh air. Buy some outdoor furniture and make these spaces cozy and inviting. 4. Use lemon as color. Yellow is the color of the sun, the one that we worship during summer and without which this beautiful season and life itself wouldn't exist. It's the symbol of summer and there's no better color to help you summer-ize your home than this one. Lemon yellow is particularly beautiful because it's fresh and vibrant. Try to incorporate it in unexpected places for a dynamic décor and for a pop of summer beauty.{picture sources:1,2,3 and 4}. The sky of Paris is brought from the future Posted: 07 Aug 2012 03:00 AM PDT Do you remember the cartoon about the Jetson Family? If not, I’ll tell you their story. They are a family from the far away future, and their apartment looks just like this fancy restaurant arranged by the French designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, in Paris. The place, called Ciel De Paris is a contemporary restaurant that can be found on the 56th floor of the Montparnasse Tower from French’s capital. It’s the ideal place for a business meeting because in day time you are surrounded by light, due to the glass walls, and by the time the night comes, it becomes perfect for a romantic date because the place is equipped with a lighting system that allows you to take a peek at the town.
The glamour is brought here, not only by the futuristic appearance but also by the way the designer managed to put the lamps so that they will create the perfect place for a night out. I say that, because from here you`re able to watch the most famous locations from Paris, such as the Eiffel Tower. The soft light that comes from all over the place, from the floor, from the walls, not only creates the perfect place for a nice dinner in the most romantic city from Europe but also keeps the lovely atmosphere. Lately I found about this restaurant. If I have knew about his existence two years ago, I would have visited it instead of the Eiffel Tower. It’s more interesting. So, if you can’t afford to fly on a cloud, there’s a place on the Sky of Paris where you’ll find yourself in Heaven. Glamorous Pacific Hillside home by Sutro Architects and Kendall Wilkinson Posted: 07 Aug 2012 02:27 AM PDT This is a classic San Francisco residence that underwent an update. The project was developed by Sutro Architects in collaboration with interior designer Kendall Wilkinson. Most of the changed took place at the level of style and interior décor. Most of the original details of the residence were preserved. The clients didn't want a total update. They just wanted to make their home look more modern but to also be able to recognize it behind all the changes. Structurally, there wasn't much to consider. The architects opted for an open plan for the kitchen and living room. It was a decision based on functionality that would also allow the bay views to be admired.
The color palette is serene and delicate with pastel tones. There's a very interesting and beautiful balance between casual and formal areas that were combined in a seamless way. The transition between these spaces is smooth and the interior decors create a continuous look with variations and alternating decorations. There are many beautiful architectural details throughout the residence and most of them were part of the original design. The furniture is traditional with modern insertions and the decorations are glamorous. There are many different textures, patterns and finishes that were harmoniously combined. The colors are also very beautiful and they create a serene and calm atmosphere.{found on houseofturquoise}.
