| Three-bedroom Houston residence with a tasteful interior Posted: 17 Jul 2012 09:30 AM PDT Usually when you look at a property you can immediately say whether you like it or not and you can also point out its main characteristics. Well, it might be a little more difficult in this case. This is a Houston property with a very uncommon interior. The décor lets you speechless at first and only after taking a second look at the pictures you can realize what it's all about.
This house is currently for sale at the price of $499K. It's fair to say that it's a unique home with lots of interesting and unusual details. The wallpaper is definitely something anyone first notices about it. Each room features a different kind of décor a different kind of wallpaper. It's like visiting a different home in each room. The kitchen has white wallpaper with leafy patterns. The décor is complemented by the chandelier that takes it to the next level.
There is what seems to be an office area but that could also serve as a living room. This one has geometrical patterns on the walls and it's separated by the adjacent bedroom only by a semi-transparent sliding wall. The bathroom has a blue theme with floral wallpaper and matching fixtures and accessories. One of the bedrooms also follows the same pattern and features a blue interior with contrasting brown furniture. The most striking is the open floor plan that includes the living and dining areas. It's a like being inside an old story. Overall, the décor is very feminine and pretentious and not something that would be easy to recreate and even transform. | Fresh and Joyful Room by Maria Barros Posted: 17 Jul 2012 09:00 AM PDT Although there are so many beautiful places that we can visit sometimes nothing can compare with the moments we spend at home. Our home can be the most relaxing oasis on earth, the most peaceful nature corner or the most joyful place where we can always come back with pleasure. All depends on the way we know how to arrange it and make it become all these marvelous places.
The Portuguese designer, Maria Barros created a fresh and joyful place where you can spend relaxing moments chatting with your friends at a nice coffee, reading an interesting book, resting your feet for a few moments or even have dinner. It is a nice living room where a dinner area is integrated too. The combination of joyful nuances like white, turquoise, orange and pink turn this place into an oasis of relaxation and freshness.
Almost everything is white, from walls to furniture, curtains and floor. There is also a mixture of vintage and modern elements like the vintage white cabinets with mirrors or the classic oval white dinner table. All these items are contrasted by modern elements like the white and pink modern dinner chairs and the white chaise lounges. The same turquoise prints on the wall are used for the two big lampshades that are set at the edges of the turquoise sofa on two side tables.
Details are the ones that bring more color and joy to this room. The white and orange pot on the diner table, the pink and orange pillows on the turquoise sofa, the white and orange candlestick or the huge orange flower on the printed wall are things that can make your day happier and make you feel more optimistic. | The customizable Sloane leather corner sofa Posted: 17 Jul 2012 08:14 AM PDT Since each home differs from the rest of the properties and each of them is decorated and designed according to the owner's preferences and needs, it's natural for the interior to be unique. It's why it would also be natural for furniture to be customizable so that we can choose the dimensions that better fit our home and the shape that best suits the room.
The Sloane sofa allows us to do that. This is a customizable piece of furniture that can adopt different shapes and dimensions. You can choose any size and any shape and you can combine the elements to create the sofa that best complements your living room, home office or any other space. This corner sofa is very versatile. For example, you could choose to have arms on both sides or to just leave one open and add a stool. This way you'll also have a comfortable lounge area.
Another option would be to have a classical sectional or to opt for an armchair with a footstool or ottoman as an extra feature. A sofa bed could be an option. The dimensions are variable and the sofa can be up to 101 cm deep. You can also choose between fabric and leather and between several color shades. There are numerous variants to choose from so before making a decision it's best to analyze the space you have available and to come up with the best solution.Available on Darlings Of Chelsea. | Ingenious DIY wine crate table Posted: 17 Jul 2012 06:39 AM PDT As we already said with several occasions, the materials used for a DIY project come from various backgrounds and that doesn't really matter as long as they can become useful again. If something can be successfully repurposed then it becomes a part of something new and continues its existence. In this particular case we will analyze a very interesting DIY table that was made from repurposed wine crates.
Using wine crates to make something else is quite uncommon and unusual. These items have a very specific function and this makes them less versatile than other objects. However, they can be used to make a beautiful table, like we can see in these images. A vintage coffee table similar to this one is actually quite easy to make. All you need are 4 wine crates, 4 casters, vinegar, steel wool, brewed tea, screws, nails, L brackets, bolts and polyurethane. Some of the supplies might look very odd in the list but it all makes sense when you follow the instructions.
First you'll need to stain the crates and secure them together with nails. You'll need to make a frame. To make them look darker you can use tea and then apply a coat of vinegar. Let it dry for 24 hours to also get rid of the smell and then apply a satin finish. Now the table is finished and ready to become a living room centerpiece.{found on diyvc}. | How to take care of your leather furniture Posted: 17 Jul 2012 05:47 AM PDT Leather furniture is usually perceived as elegant and it used to be a symbol of wealth. Then it has become a more common accessory and faux versions have also been created. But regardless of all that, there are some things that you need to take into consideration before choosing leather furniture.
First of all, leather needs to be cleaned using specialized products. It also needs to be protected from various substances and environments. There are a few things you need to know about this type of furniture and only then deciding whether or not you want leather or fabric. Some things tend to be exaggerated and even turn into myths. For example, regardless what anyone says, leather furniture can last a lifetime. Because leather is a natural product, aging only makes it more beautiful and brings out its charm. So investing in leather furniture is a very smart idea.
And since it's so resistant, leather furniture lasts for a long time and this becomes something that is worth investing in. This makes it a very popular choice for all social classes. The greatest myth of all is that leather is too hard to care for. It's true that there are things that need to be taken into consideration regarding this process but this doesn't make leather any more difficult than other materials. In fact, it's easier to wipe up spills with a clean cloth than having to clean the entire fabric upholstery. Also, some substances can be impossible to get rid of.
Leather is actually easy to care for. All you need to do is use a conditioner every 6 to 12 months. Also, make sure you wipe up spills as soon as they occur because they might damage the leather. Avoid using normal cleaning supplies such as soap, detergents or solvents. Make sure you keep your leather furniture out of the sun as it can damage it and then make the color fade. So, as you can see, it's actually quite easy to care for leather furniture. It's no more difficult than caring for any other type of furniture but this one you also have the advantage of elegance and timeless beauty.{picture sources:1,2&3,and 4}. | Small sustainable house in California by Arkin Tilt Architects Posted: 17 Jul 2012 05:04 AM PDT This house, even though it might look simple and doesn't stand out much, is part of a daring project. This is actually an experiment. The house is located east of Nevada City in California and it's a weekend and vacation retreat for a couple and their two young sons.
Building this house was the first step towards creating a house that produces all of the energy it needs and uses. It's a daring project developed by David Arkin and his team from Arkin Tilt Architects. They designed an essential core building that has mounted solar panels, a solar heating system, concrete flooring and straw-bale walls. This way it produces and maintains all the energy it needs all year around. The house covers an area of 872 square feet. It's a small building that contains a sleeping loft and a bathroom but it's also an inspiring experiment.
Since it was designed as a part-time residence only to be used during vacations and holidays, the architects tried to keep material selection and cost to a minimum. They chose simple and durable materials including metal for the roof, concrete for the floors and salvaged wood for the panels between the windows. Their goal was to create a sustainable and environmentally-friendly structure that would also be a part of a more complex study. The house uses solar water collectors, heating panels, a roof-mounted photovoltaic panel system and other similar features. | The PP129 ergonomic chair by Hans Jørgen Wegner Posted: 17 Jul 2012 03:31 AM PDT For a chair, the main issue and the key to a successful design is comfort. A chair needs to be, first of all, comfortable and to allow the user to adopt a correct and pleasant position. It's a big challenge for any designer. PP129 is a great success from this point of view. Of course, the chair also excels in terms of design and visual appeal.
PP129 was designed by Hans Jørgen Wegner for PP Møbler. It's an ergonomic armchair and it has a simple and casual design. Surprisingly, the chair was designed in 1968. Even so, it still has a modern appearance. It's a proof that great designs are timeless and are highly appreciated, even after all these years. The chair has a frame made from solid wood. The frame is very simple and features curved edges and clean-cut lines.
Also called the Web Chair, this piece has a strong and sturdy construction and yet it seems very sleek and delicate. The greatest feature of this piece is the fact that it's a very cofmrotable easy chair. Even though it was designed back in 1968, the chair has not been in production for decades. After all these years, PP Møbler started manufacturing it again in the spring of 2012. It has a simple but refined look and it's also versatile.
