| Restaurant experimental design for NOMA Lab Posted: 26 Jun 2012 11:15 AM PDT In Denmark you can feel the adrenaline of new experiments if you visit the new NOMA Lab of NOMA Restaurant designed by GXN and situated in a former warehouse. Actually the idea was to transform the former meeting rooms. The intention was to design four central multi-functional storage units where each of them consisted of over five hundred separately formed wooden cubes. Thus, 200M2 room was divided into some other small areas where can be seen the Food Lab, the herb garden, the staff areas and the office.
"Experiment" was the common point of this project. At NOMA the experiment was used as a new stage in the development of their gastronomy while GXN used the experimental design for their new project. All these innovative approaches resulted in a wonderful place where the pleasure of preparing food was increased due to the new created areas. Nordic aesthetic, raw and simple shapes and colors were the main ingredients used for this place.
Digital design methods were also used for this project so that the interior consisted of a three dimensional puzzle of over 5000 pieces which could be assembled without any help. The pieces of furniture have integrated lighting, there are practical storage units which look like some bookcases and STAR lamp, a piece developed by GXN was used as additional lighting for NOMA Lab, creating a special ambiance. Nuances of dark grey and green appear at the kitchen islands while the rest of the interiors keep their white or natural wood nuances.{found on archdaily and pics by Adam Mørk}. | Digitally-printed floral lampshades in Nasturtium Posted: 26 Jun 2012 09:21 AM PDT Lampshades are elements that are usually used to bring color and texture into a décor. They have similar functions to those of a pillow. Lamps and lampshades are both functional and charming when used as decorative elements. As for the patterns and prints used in these cases, they vary. Floral prints are very common not only because of their feminine touch but only because they always have bright and bold colors and this can really spice up the atmosphere.
These colorful lampshades are made from Nasturtium, a new type of fabric designed exclusively for Winter's Moon. It's a creation of Brie Harrison and it was sued to make these lovely lampshades. They come in two different sizes and their price also varies from £48.00 to £66.00. Nasturtium is a fabric made from a linen mix and it's printed in the UK. Given the fact that it's digitally printed, some small marks typical to this process are visible but they are not considered imperfections but rather a detail impossible to avoid.
These colorful lampshades are available in two versions: as a pendant shade or as a floor or table lampshade. They are also available in two sizes, large and small. The large version measures 45cm in diameter & 25cm high while the dimensions for the small model are 30cm in diameter & 22 cm high. Larger versions are also available but they are made to order and delivery takes three weeks. The floral pattern of the lampshades is colorful and bold and color contrast is strong but beautiful and delicate at the same time. | Multifunctional Bookcase by Orla Reynolds Posted: 26 Jun 2012 08:00 AM PDT If you think of an old bookcase you will have in mind the image of a huge, wood piece of furniture full of dusty and thick books or vintage pieces of art, which will definitely take a lot of space from your precious room. Usually vintage bookcases are massive and take a lot of space but now the tendency is to offer more space and perhaps other possibilities to store things. So, now, the modern bookcases look slimmer, offer some great storage space and can even help you create different ways to arrange your things.
The designer Orla Reynolds, a former ballet dancer, influenced by her previous job designed a modern multifunctional bookcase which was meant to represent a scene change at the theatre and combine the idea of using space efficiently and art. Thus, here it is a nice bookcase made of white slim squares which can hide colorful tables and chairs between its shelves. They can be pulled out easily and thus it is no need to find some other storage spaces for these pieces and enjoy more space for your room.
It is even nicer the fact that you can transform this bookcase into a comfortable place for reading or create some side tables and other pieces of furniture that you can use to arrange and store your things in an organized manner. It is a multifunctional and modern piece which offer great storage space and can make you become more creative and think of different ways you can arrange your things. | Posted: 26 Jun 2012 07:01 AM PDT Even though it's sometimes overlooked, the bathroom is just as important as any other room in the house. Depending on the décor and style you have chosen for the rest of your home, the bathroom can have different styles as well. We have selected five concepts that we thought might inspire you in your effort to remodel your home. 1. Minimalist bathroom by Savio & Rupa Interior Concepts.
This is a modern interpretation of the bathroom space. As you can see, it's a minimalist space with very little furniture. It includes an open shower, a very distinguishable feature that can be difficult to integrate in most spaces but that works perfectly in this décor. What's also interesting is the texture and color of the walls. The different tones of brown and the wood texture create an elegant and warm atmosphere. The washbasin is bold but delicate and the large mirror is a wonderful detail that makes the space seem bigger but also serves as a functional decoration.
2. Colorful bathroom with a vintage-modern décor by Joel Snayd.
This is in many ways a classical décor for a bathroom. It has white ceiling, white walls and white floor. However, there's something very casual and inviting about it. First of all, it has a vanity and chair. They share similar styles and feature yellow finishes. The main reason for the installation of this particular piece was that large window with views of the city. And since this piece of furniture occupies plenty of space, the rest of the bathroom is very simple. The sink has a very interesting design. It sits on a sort of storage unit with an open compartment underneath and a towel rack in the front. Again, the mirror enhances the space and creates diversity. 3. Chic wooden bathroom by Siemasko + Verbridge.
Wood is a material that adds warmth anywhere it goes. It allows us to feel closer to closer and its texture is very beautiful. Technological improvements now allow us to also use this distinguished material in the bathroom and the results are spectacular. For this bathroom, the center piece is the tub while the surrounding walls are covered with wood panels and wooden storage units.A similar tub cn be found at Bunnings Warehouse. The rest of the décor is minimalist and completely white. The combination of colors is very chic and the blue accents are the detail that makes this bathroom so stylish. 4. Classic bathroom by Lori Shaffer.
Sometimes returning to the classics can be very refreshing. The client of this bathroom wanted a clean and classic design that would also match the master suite. The designer came up with several ideas but this one was the winner. It's a design that incorporates a stylish vanity with mirror and dark-stained furniture. The color contrast is strong and timeless. The bathroom also has a glass shower that adds transparency to the design and marble tiled floor that adds the hint of extra elegance the décor needed to be perfect. 5. Modern bathroom with a functional décor by NathalieTremblay.
This is a beautiful example of a contemporary bathroom. It features a minimalist décor with just a few details here and there. The texture of the accent wall and the corner decoration are the only details that are purely decorative. This bathroom has a minimalist double sink sitting on a functional storage unit with drawers and storage compartments. A bench with built-in drawers is placed against the window and a suspended mirror adds depth to the space. These are five bathroom décor ideas presenting five different styles and concepts. You can use either one as inspiration for your own home or you can take the elements you like best and incorporate them into an original design. | Vintage studio apartment in New York Posted: 26 Jun 2012 05:39 AM PDT This is the small but charming home of designer Kevin Dumais. It's a studio apartment located in the Financial District of New York. Even though it covers only 475 square meters, the apartment is very charming and inviting. In fact, small apartment are often cozier than large mansions.
The apartment might be small, but its owner managed to beautifully decorate it in a charming vintage style. The result was a functional space with a stylish décor. Even though separately the pieces used to decorate the studio are classical, together they form a very original composition. Since the apartment is small, the designer decided to use paint to define the different areas and create a graduate transition. He also used pattern to break the monotony and to rescale the rooms. There's a very interesting color contrast in here.
The walls from the sleeping area and the kitchen have been deliberately painted dark. They have been complemented by vintage furniture and glass features. As we can all see, for the owner of this apartment, a tiny space was not an obstacle but rather a challenge that he had fun surpassing. Kevin managed to completely remodel and redecorate this place with a total budget of $6.000.He wanted to create a décor with a strong visual impact but that would also feel cozy and comfortable and he was very successful in doing that.{found on apartmenttherapy}. | Modern weekend family house in Spain by M2arquitectura SCP Posted: 26 Jun 2012 04:17 AM PDT La Morera del Montsant is an old and quiet town located in Tarragona, Spain. It's a beautiful weekend and holiday destination and the location this family chose for their weekend retreat. This single family house has a beautiful façade with stone walls and a contrasting interior with a contemporary décor. The house was a project by Meritxell Lázaro & Mischa Essletzbichler from M2arquitectura SCP.
The project was completed in 2010. The result was a beautiful house with a total of three levels. On the ground floor the owners placed the entrance, a small bathroom and a laundry room. This area is located on street level. There's also an underground part where a multifunctional room is located. It's mostly used for storage. The first floor includes a dining room and living room. It's basically one large space used for cooking, easting and socialization.
On the second floor were placed the private rooms. Here the owners have the bedrooms with a bathroom and a dressing room. Throughout, the interior features white walls and wooden floors. It's a classical combination that results in a timeless décor. The rest is minimalist and modern. Some pieces of furniture add color here and there but, mostly, the décor is neutral and simple. The house is also nicely illuminated. At first, the roof presented a problem as it obstructed the natural light. The owners decided to flatten the roof above the dressing room in order to allow natural ventilation and light to get through and illuminate the rest of the house.{found on archdaily and pics by José Hevia Blach}. | The contemporary S cube chalet by AGi architects Posted: 26 Jun 2012 03:00 AM PDT Some families have members that enjoy spending time together even when they go away. They like to feel close to each other but they also know how to appreciate distance and when to give each other privacy. The clients for the S cube chalet requested a big structure that would contain three beach residences. They are inhabited by members of the same family.
The idea was clever and simple. The members of the family will have privacy and will be free to enjoy different activities but they would still be all together. It's a very flexible situation. The S cube chalet was a project by Madrid and Kuwait-based practice AGI Architects. They designed this impressive and massive structure that contains three individual units. Hey are basically three separate beach residences but they share the same site and form a large building.
The building offers views of the sea and it's surrounded by a yard and garden. The site was first divided in two parts. Two adjacent homes with mirrored plans have then been constructed and a third on the first level. They are connected by a central stairwell placed in between them. Each of the three homes has their own outdoor spaces or a rooftop terrace. They also all have terraces with views of the sea and the surrounding landscape. It's a great compromise to have such a beautiful beach getaway.{found on desisgnboom}. | White Hickory Branch Chandelier Posted: 26 Jun 2012 02:26 AM PDT I love people with imagination and creativity because they are able to turn dull simple things into works of art by simply adding their inspiration and genius. That is what separates a serial product from a masterpiece. So if you want your home to be unique and like no other, you must try t find a person who is able to design and manufacture things like this White Hickory Branch Chandelier . This beautiful chandelier has branches, so I guess you can also call it a “branchelier” if you want to. It is essentially a big chandelier that is adorned with long and artistic-looking hickory branches.
The hickory branches are smaller or bigger, depending to the spot where they will be placed, but they are all carefully cleaned and dried and after that lacquered so as to look their best when turned into little pieces for the chandelier. Then they are arranged in a careful and artistic way, resulting in an amazing item of lighting. The White Hickory Branch Chandelier was created by the guys from Collier West and looks like floating into thin air, almost surreal but also so romantic. The chandelier works with 11 Candlebra based bulbs, being perfect for large rooms. One such unique chandelier can be bought for $2,400. | The Cutline furniture collection by Alessandro Busanas Posted: 26 Jun 2012 12:55 AM PDT Cutline is a contemporary furniture collection with a very interesting approach. As the name suggests, the pieces from this collection have unusual designs, with apparently accidentally cut corners. In fact everything has a purpose. The designs of the pieces are meant to impress but they are also based on functional criteria.
The Cutline collection was designed by Alessandro Busanas. It includes a table and several storage units, all with unique and original designs. First of all, it's the shape of these pieces that impresses. The irregularities of the form seem almost chaotic. Nevertheless, it was all intentional. The asymmetrical lines allow them to catch your attention. The cutout pieces then enhance the visual impact and create a very strong impression.
The missing pieces are very neat and they seem to have been cut with a very sharp knife. They allow a glimpse into the interior of these original pieces, but not in the traditional way. They tables and storage units have missing pieces in unexpected places. They reveal a piece of the item while also enhancing the mystery and making it even deeper. The pieces from this collection are in essence very simple except for the unexpected details and this is what makes them unique. It's a very strong detail and it's not overwhelmed by anything else. It shines and becomes the star of the design.
