7 Stunning Pool Houses

Posted: 23 Jun 2012 04:20 AM PDT

It's summer time, and that often goes hand in hand with craving some pool time. Of course, some very lucky homeowners have pools right in their backyards and amazing pool houses that go with them. Pool houses are so popular because they can actually double as guest rooms in many situations, and are ideal for party planning or having a place for your children to spend their time during the hot months. If you're thinking of building a pool house, look no further than the design inspiration below. We think you'll enjoy the wide variety of styles and finishings that these spaces feature.

This stunning pool house is a modern home enthusiast's dream. Enclosed by glass, dwellers can enjoy the view of the pool while relaxing in the air conditioning inside. Equipped with sliding glass doors, this pool house can actually be transformed into an indoor/outdoor space. Also, I love how the architect was not limited by the sloping lawn; they created a large deck anyway that floats over the grass.Designed by Steinbomer Bramwell.

A completely different style from the other homes featured, this pool house would be classified as Georgian style. Yet, the design could be adapted to fit many different types of pool houses. A small room on either side, one could hold a bathroom/shower combination while the other could hold a small kitchenette or a pull out sofa. A patio table in between makes it easy to grab food or have a buffet.{found on Eric Stengel Architecture}.

This A-frame pool house lets in tons of light and has a fantastic loft space for guests of the owners to stay. Large, sliding doors make access to the pool a breeze, and huge windows let in a gorgeous amount of natural light. Modern furnishings and stone floors are perfect for wet feet, and a water feature protruding from the pool house connects it to its surroundings.Deigned by Randall Mars.

Sometimes, simplicity is all you need. This gorgeous pool does not have an extensive amount of landscaping or fluff. Plush white cushions adorn solid teak patio furniture. A unique designed pool house features awesome lighting, simple furniture, and a gorgeous kitchen.Designed by Ike Kligerman Barkley.

What about a pool house and library together in one? This chic room is filled with mid-century furniture and cool, textured walls. Large windows look out onto a narrow pool and asymmetrical patio stones. Ultimately, it's a lovely look with a great rustic yet chic feel.Designed by FKA.

As evidenced by these five fantastic pool houses, there are so many ways you can approach designing and building one when it comes to style. You can go traditional, ultra modern, or even somewhere in between. You don't need a large amount of luxurious materials. It is a pool house after all that will be utilized hopefully by many, many of your family and friends. So, if you decide to invest anywhere, invest in your floors and durable furniture like teak that can last more than a decade. Whatever you chose, we hope you are endlessly inspired and get to enjoy someone's pool house this summer, whether it's at your friend's home or yours!

Ashoka Canggu – a “V” Villa in Bali

Posted: 23 Jun 2012 02:15 AM PDT

Ashoka Canggu is a villa in Bali that combines the Scandinavian traditions with the openness and materials traditional to Bali. It has a “V” shape, the result of the site, surrounded by rice paddies, rain forest and a local holy path. The Danish based design studio Mencke & Vagnby made it as a summer residence for a Hong Kong based couple and its location is in the small Canggu village, near Denpasar. The ground floor reveals an open plan, in close contact with the garden, pools, and provides a scenic view over the west.

The surrounding wall of Balinese stone inside is the main structure; the stone floor changes the surface structure. What is impressive and inviting is the typical openness of the Balinese homes; the first floor box in white, concrete, reflecting the sunlight and providing shade for the ground floor includes the three master bedrooms.

The bathrooms were definitely inspired by caves and kept in a local stone with a large sky window over the shower and bathtub. The northwestern part of the site was turned into a long swimming pool; the garden seems to exist in order to make the flowers match the Balinese traditional color palette.

There is a nice connection between the inner and outer space and in general, the use of lines and materials is stunning. The wide glass windows and doors provide a unique perspective over an enchanting green world. Statues’ presence can be felt both outside and inside; stonewalls are impressive and the furniture pieces and shades reveal a warm atmosphere that makes you feel at ease.{found on archdaily}.

Maya Lin Child’s Stone

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 11:52 AM PDT

Kids love using the nature around them, so they find only natural to use moss as pillow and stones as chairs. That is why many furniture designers “borrowed” their ideas and turned them into original pieces of furniture, just like this interesting looking Maya Lin Child’s Stone. This is a kind of ottoman, but having a different shape and designed, created by Maya Lin, an Asian designer. These “stones’ are somewhat regular in shape, being a combination between a cone base and a seating. One base is smaller and the other one is larger, but you can use them both to stay on, by simply turning them upside down.

These chairs, ottomans, or stones, whatever they may be called, are manufactured by Knoll and are available on their web site. Each such chair is available in two materials: molded polyethylene and molded polyethylene with 100% recycled content. They are empty on the inside, so they are pretty lightweight, but they are perfectly enclosed, so there is no chance of having them open , even by mistake. That is what confers them stability. The seat tops are rather concave and they are available in different colours, for both indoors and outdoors. Well, if you think the hard surface of the plastic is not good enough for your child, you can always choose a cushion to place on top of it, but that would only take away its interesting look. If you are interested in the product , make an inquiry here.
