Line Bar made out from solit walnut by Nathan Yong

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 11:00 AM PDT

Each person uses his or her personal experience in the process of creating what they know best. For writers it's the adventures and persons they know that serve as inspiration while for furniture designers it's their passions and affinities they grew up with. Nathan Yong finds his inspiration in the beauty and simplicity of nature. He manages to design some of the most beautiful and good-looking bars and entertainment units you can find.

The Line Bar is just one such beautiful piece of furniture. The Singaporean artist designed this beautiful statement piece as a part of a larger collection. The Line Media Console is also part of the same series along with the Line wine bar and Line Credenza. The console table was presented at the 2010 International Furniture Fair in Singapore and impressed with its quiet elegance and stylish design. The Line Bar shares the same characteristics. It's a modern piece of furniture with a simple design that doesn't lack subtle details.

The Line Bar was designed on request after the media console impressed everyone with its beauty. The designer then came up with this piece, featuring the same inspiration source as the console: the streamline forms of the 1960s stereo components. The bar features a solid American walnut frame and it's also crafted from MDF and walnut veneer. It costs $3,295.00 USD. The bar has two drawers with leather pulls along with three open cubbies and a storage rack that can hold up to 12 bottles. This portion is removable. There's also a hanging stemware storage rack. Overall, this is a very elegant piece of furniture and it would look lovely in modern dining or living rooms.

Clinton Chair

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 09:12 AM PDT

When you are spoiled and everybody treats you with respect you say you feel like a king, but why wouldn’t you say you feel like a president? They are the modern equivalents of kings and princes , even if they only stay for a few years in the top position in state. Any way, this interesting looking chair – the Clinton Chair made me think of the American president who shares his name with this beautiful piece of furniture. I am sure they have nothing in common and the chair seems really comforatble and nice.

The design of this chair is really interesting, as it does not have four legs as you would normally expect – short or not or even those arched legs that allow you to rock. Quite the opposite, I may say. It has a kind of support that afterwards comes into contact with an arched base, but which doesn’t rock. The chair is supported from both sides and the back rest and the seating are allowed to have the most comfortable position ever.

But there’s more: the thick cushion is beautifully upholstered and it offers an amazing view with the blue cover and buttons. It is patterned after a classic deckchair and the flared wooden legs suggest effortless intricacy. It is built from fired wood which gives it a lot of resistance and is also handmade. The item is available in a number of colours of the cushion for $1,799.

Sophisticated bedroom with a pink interior design

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 09:10 AM PDT

Pink bedrooms, even though they are a cliché, are not as common as we might think. They are actually quite rare. Usually we see bright bedrooms with pink accents and combinations of pink and several other colors. However, an all pink bedroom could be just as friendly and inviting if decorated right. This is Piper's bedroom and it looks lovely in pink.

First of all, we should mention that this is not a bright tone of pink like most of us imagine in such cases. The bedroom features a pastel color, very soft and delicate. Secondly, the eclectic mix of styles makes this bedroom very chic. The furniture ranges from vintage t contemporary and, even though the differences in style are very noticeable, the result is a very harmonious décor. The vintage pieces have a more sophisticated look while the contemporary ones are minimalist and keep the whole mix in perfect balance.

The bedroom is not entirely decorated in pink. There are variations of shades and colors and combination of pink, red and white along with wooden furniture and colorful artwork. Besides the obvious girly style of this bedroom, the room presents other interests as well. For example, the décor is flexible and it's something that both children and teenagers would love. It's not overly glitzy and it's not too serious either. It's the perfect combination of playful and chic.

Small attic apartment with balcony in Gothenburg

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 08:05 AM PDT

This cozy apartment is located in Kålltorp, a district in Gothenburg. It's situated in a building that dates back to 1946 and it only has 1.5 rooms. Despite its small size, it's actually very cozy and private. It covers an area of 58 square meters and it sits on the third floor in a three-story building. The apartment has a modern design with a touch of traditional and it's now for sale at the price of 1.25 million SEK.

The apartment compensates the fact that it's small with the fact that it also has a balcony. The balcony has views of the courtyard and it adds a very nice touch to this lovely studio apartment. The interior design is simple airy but very charming and inviting. It features sloping ceilings and exposed beams and the walls and ceiling are white thus creating the impression of a larger space and an airy atmosphere. Even though the apartment has limited space, the interior design is flexible and adaptable.

For example, the kitchen has a large dining area that could also be used as a sleeping area of guest area in case such a situation arises. Also, the apartment has plenty of storage space including a walk-in closet. The living room is spacious and can easily accommodate a sofa, a bed and even a desk or a small work area. The kitchen is also large and has an adjacent dining room that can accommodate a dining table for six persons. The apartment also has a nice hallway with a large walk-in closet.{found on stadshem}.

Creative DIY monoprint fabric to use with your pillows

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 05:57 AM PDT

If you love to be creative then this should be your next project. It involves painting and sewing and it's both fun and practical. We're going to show how to make monoprint fabric. You can use it for pillows, blankets and anything else you can think of. Let's see what you need for this project. First you'll need some fabric and, of course, paint. You'll also need freezer paper, brushes and a rolling pin.

Start by laying down some freezer paper on the working surface in order to protect it. When everything is prepared, take another sheet of paper and use it as a creating surface with the shiny side up. Next, decide on the colors of paint that you're going to use and the design you want to create. Apply paint to the paper and try to be fast because the paint has a tendency of drying rapidly. After you're happy with the design, take the fabric and lay it over the painted paper.

Using more freezer paper, cover the fabric. Then use the rolling pin and press down hard, rolling it over the fabric. This will force the paint to evenly distribute on the fabric. Do this a couple of times and then carefully peel off the fabric. Now all you have to do is wait for the paint to be completely dry and then you can use the fabric for pillow cushions or anything else. It's simple, it's fun and it's creative.{found on designmom}.

The Piano Hanger by Patrick Seha

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 05:19 AM PDT

The Piano Hanger is a very practical and functional accessory for any home. Hangers are usually this way. However, this particular one impresses both with its practicality and its clever and interesting design. The Piano Hanger was designed by Patrick Seha for Belgian company Feld and it is based on a very common and simple principle.

The inspiration for this hanger was, as the name suggests, the piano. The hanger is completely flat when not used. But whenever you need to hang a coat, a bag or anything else you just need to unfold one of the hooks that compose the hanger's structure. Whenever one side of the hook is pressed down, the other one goes upwards. The principle is very similar to that of the piano. The similarity with the musical instruments ends here. The hanger doesn't make any sounds when you press the hooks nor does it feature the same colors.

It would have been interesting to see how the hanger would look like painted in black and white, like the actual keys of the piano. You could probably make an experiment and paint it yourself. The Piano hanger is a very simple item with a very simple design. It's also child-friendly and very versatile, due to its look and use of materials. Another great advantage is that it's completely flat when not in use and thus allows you to save some space in the hallway or wherever the hanger is placed.

The eclectic and extremely comfortable Club Chair

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 02:04 AM PDT

You're probably all familiar with the type of armchair that has it all: looks, comfort and great materials. The Club Chair is among the most stylish pieces of furniture that fall into that category. This piece of furniture might not have a very original name but it can be easily distinguished thanks to its stylish design. As the name suggests, the main concept that was taken into consideration when designing this armchair was comfort.

Indeed, the Club Chair is a very comfortable piece of furniture. It has the typical shape for armchairs of this type but its design is slightly different from the traditional ones. For example, the body is covered in leather but the armrests are exposed and unupholstered. They are part of the wooden frame and create a continuous design. Moreover, there was also another reason behind this detail. The armrests have flat surfaces and stable structures and this allows the user to use it as a place to rest his glass, mug, remove control and anything else he might need to.

Another interesting detail about the Club Chair is that it was designed keeping in mind both style and sustainability. It has been crafted using an ash frame with joints made from walnut biscuits and dowels with a texture and finish that match the walnut veneer. It also features a plywood shell hanging from the frame and black upholstery with stylish details. The materials are all sourced locally and sustainably and they helped create a very distinguished piece of furniture that would look elegant in any living room.Designed by Daniel Edward.

The “House like village” project in Amsterdam

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 12:45 AM PDT

"House like village" is a very interesting and unique space located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It's actually a loft with a very original internal structure. The whole space was designed by Marc Koehler Architects and the project was completed in 2011.The 160 square meter loft has been structured like a series of small houses inside a larger house.

The concept is interesting and unusual. The name of the project is very suggestive for the way the loft is divided. It’s like a miniature village in there. The loft has small streets that divide different areas and a series of compartimentalized spaces, each with its own function. They serve for different types of actions such as playing, partying, washing, working or relaxing. The idea seems logical. This way there's a space designed specifically for the type of activity you plan on doing.

Instead of designing a large flexible space, the architects created a series of distinctive areas that serve their own purpose. The streets that separate these areas also have the function of carrying daylight into the center of the loft. The loft was designed for a young couple with a baby on the way. They have very clear requests. They wanted this space to represent the way they live and the way they interact. They spent a lot of time planning everything but the results were more than satisfying.{found on archdaily and pictures by Marcel van der Burg}.
