Hot Color Combo: Yellow & Gray

Posted: 05 May 2012 07:26 AM PDT

One of my favorite color combinations of all time is gray and yellow. I don't know why. Perhaps it's that gray and yellow together are so clean and classic. They are bright but not overpowering, subtle but fun. Whatever it is, I just can't seem to get enough of the gorgeous rooms that display this color duo.

Of course, if you don't believe me, I've provided you with tons of gorgeous photos below to get you inspired to decorate your own home. The geometric gray pattern on these chairs is the perfect subtle backdrop for those chic and simple yellow pillows. The yellow rug, gray walls, and really cool photography over the fireplace complete the look (from BudgetWiseHome).

Add black into the mix for a completely stunning, upscale look. This bright yellow couch pops off of the wall, which has a faux crown molding paint treatment. The incredible modern art helps to tie all the colors together (from DecorPad).

Those empty yellow frames are such a simple DIY project that would work in any home regardless of the accent color. The yellow accents are carried through to the accessories and a small stool for a perfect balance (from EuroStyleLighting).

This bright yellow kitchen is so bright and fun. It would definitely be such a happy space to walk into each morning. The chic, modern chrome drawer pulls are incredible as is the seamless gray color on the walls (from Colin & Justin's Home Heist show).

This room features more muted yellow tones in addition to large oversized art. The gray couch, geometric chairs, and neutral rug help to define the living space (from DecorPad).

The long yellow and white vertical stripes on the wall help to draw your eye upward, making the room feel much bigger than it is. The gorgeous custom curtains and dramatic headboard are some of the best features of this room. Overall, it's the ideal blend of traditional and more modern décor (from Decor Pad).

Most of the rooms featured so far have had lighter grays on the wall and furniture, but this room shows how effective dark gray can be. The dark sofas and black wall paired with long gray drapes and gorgeous fabric make this room perfection (from DecorPad).

This room has so many great features that it's difficult to know where to start. First, the drapes are completely stunning with an unusual pattern on them. Then, the furniture is incredibly modern and unique. The gold accents throughout blend in perfectly with all the bright yellow accessories, and the gray furniture, rug, and wall ground the space (from InspirationForHome).

We hope that all of these stunning yellow and gray rooms help you in your quest to make your home as beautiful as possible. Gray also looks great with turquoise, red, and white in addition the yellow and black rooms seen here. To choose the perfect shade of gray, bring home paint samples and try several of them on your wall. That will be the first step to making over a room with gray accents. Good luck!

Modern Stripe Sailor Olive Tablecloth

Posted: 05 May 2012 06:43 AM PDT

There is something about stripes that makes you think of sailors and navy. I guess the stripes can suggest waves and the sea or something similar. Any way, stripes are beautiful as long as you do not add anything more and keep everything very simple. They are perfect in a single colour against a white background and this way the chromatic effect is guaranteed. This Sailor Olive Tablecloth is the perfect example of good taste and style when it comes to using stripes. I know this is only a tablecloth , but it can make a table look great or awful, so it not just an unimportant accessory.

The tablecloth is combined in an inspired way with olive plates and cups and the chairs around the table are white – so simple like I said. The tablecloth is entirely made of cotton and it is hand printed so that it won’t lose anything from its beautiful design. That is why it is recommended for you to wash it in cold water, preferably by hand.

But you can use the washing machine, too, if you use the gentle cycle. Also iron it while still wet if you want to avoid all the wrinkles. Depending on the size of the tablecloth, its price might vary between $80 and $110.

Modern white house that seems to be cut off from a magazine

Posted: 05 May 2012 03:29 AM PDT

This is the kind of house that seems to be cut off from a magazine. I have studied it for some minutes, and I cannot say that I saw at least one mistake, a small piece of rock that is not in its place. Everything seems to be perfect thanks to the architect's hard work and care. This project designed by Alexander Brenner Architekten was finished in 2007 and it is located on a 4876 m2 plot in Stuttgart, Germany.

The construction is a combination of white cubes with individual functions perfectly combined in this amazing unit placed on a hilltop with amazing views. Although it is very big, the Am Oberen Berg house is designed to have both privacy and beautiful natural views. The entrance is very simple and it doesn't reveal in any way what hides behind those black and white walls.

The whole house has big windows and glass walls in the opposite side, where there is a landscaped garden, a long wooden terrace with a pool in the middle and the beautiful views of the hills and city. Inside, our first stop is in the two story hallway which leads us in the right side where is the kitchen and the dining room or in the left side, in the living room.

Although the size of the house is remarkable, the chambers aren't as high as we would expect, because a higher ceiling will allow excessive light inside which will disturb the inhabitants. All those white surfaces combined with gray wooden floors are very dull, so this house needed a shade of color to invigorate the rooms. Besides the lighting objects that warm the place, the house was decorated with brown tones of furniture and accessories, but also with the natural landscape which was used as decoration.

Transparent Cube for storing or displaying things

Posted: 05 May 2012 12:10 AM PDT

You make your home beautiful by the little things you add to give it more style and a nice design. They are not always useful, but they look very well. That is why you have to display them in a very visible spot in order to take the best advantage of them. Of course you can put these accessories on the bookcase, on its shelves or maybe on some wooden bookshelves, on the floor or where you think it is more appropriate. But I don’t know if they will be perfectly valued like this. Maybe the best way to show hem and to also save some floor space is to use this Transparent Cube for storing or displaying things.

The cube is made of clear acrylic, so you can admire what is inside it easily. On the other hand, the things displayed are perfectly safe because you might want to protect some of them like a model car or maybe an old photo, a bunch of shells or a dried flower you don’t want your kid to reach and destroy in no time. The cube is easily mounted and the wall or even set on a tabletop. The item is available in more sizes and shapes and you can order it for $24.95 (the model in the picture, I mean the cube – the acrylic trays are cheaper).

First hotel in Dubai with rooms 10m under surface of the sea

Posted: 04 May 2012 05:38 PM PDT

This amazing hotel will be constructed in the Dubai. If I remember Dubai had announced another extravagant underwater hotel called Hydropolis, in 2006. The project was delayed for different reasons. This time the Deep Ocean Technology had design this wonderful hotel and I think it will become reality. The hotel is created from many discs and the first one is situated at the bottom of the sea. From here guests can admire the wonderful coral reef. If that isn't enough what do you say about underwater tourist vehicles, a spa, garden areas, an above-water terrace and a helipad especially for the guests. The above water discs are mounted on three giant legs.

What makes this hotel the best one I've ever seen is that the above water discs can be detached, in case of an emergency, and can be used as lifesaving vessels. Sounds amazing! This hotel is an eco friendly one because, explains Bogdan Gutkowski- President of the 'Big InVEST Group', it offers new opportunities for ecology and with this hotel constructed a new underwater ecosystem will be created in the surroundings.

Have you seen the cartoon JETSONS? Well from my opinion this hotel is the exact sea level replica of the homes in the JETSONS. In the disk below water, the hotel has two person rooms that have an extraordinary view. It is a dream that will become reality.Dubaihas done it again! Stay sharp for the big opening and book a room for your pleasure.{found on Daily Mail }.

The Majestic Elephant Chair

Posted: 04 May 2012 03:41 PM PDT

Once you've seen the rest of the pieces from this collection, the Elephant Chair doesn't come as a surprise. The chair is the newest addition to the Animal Chair Collection designed by Maximo Riera. The collection includes other very impressive pieces such as the Rhino Chair or the Walrus chair and you can read all about them on our site.

After experimenting with different animal shapes, the designer chose to pay homage to the largest living land animal on Earth, the elephant. The chair is as impressive as the real animal. The whole idea of creating furniture that closely mimics real living animals and all the details that make them unique is genius. The Animal Chair Collection will always be opened to new creations. The Elephant Chair is a piece that not only complements this collection but also highlights the artist's connection to the Indian culture.

Despite the dimensions of the chair that mimic the shape of the elephant, this is a very elegant and delicate piece of furniture. As expected, the Elephant Chair was limited to only 20 units. Each piece costs £60,000 ($97,100) and, as you can imagine, it's very hard to get your hand on one. The Elephant Chair is crafted with a steel frame, compressed foam and polyurethane. It also features a fine leather finish and creating one takes about 9 weeks. The dimensions of the chair are 2.97cms deep, 2.30cms tall and 1.67cm wide and it weighs 160 kg.

Beautifully Handcrafted Moroccan Pendant

Posted: 04 May 2012 12:11 PM PDT

Different people have different customs and traditions and they resist in time, being valued by those who inherited them through generations. It is easy to recognize a Chinese painted vase Ming period style or maybe and African mask. But I think it is better to keep your people’s traditions and also try to “borrow” those foreign traditions that you like best. I like these Beautifully Handcrafted Moroccan Pendants very much and I think I could arrange a room in Arab style just to admire them every day or, even better, try to match them with simple black furniture that matches them perfectly.

These pendants are very special because they are carefully hand crafted in iron, but having a bronze finish and they are pierced in two different patterns. The motifs that are crafted into the bronze lamp shades cast strange shadows on the walls when they are lit and this brings the mystery of the African continent into your home. They are inspired by the street lanterns of Marrakesh and look amazingly well.

The pendants come in two sizes : small and large and they can be used both indoors and outdoors. They work with one 60 watt light bulb each, which does not come with the lamp. However, you do get the hardware that you need to fix it to the ceiling. The item can be bought for $99 (small size) and $149 (large size).
