Simple Wall-Mounted Bookcase

Posted: 04 May 2012 09:15 AM PDT

I like personalized things. And i also believe that you should make all the furniture for your house directly on order. I have had a few unhappy experiences with read-made furniture that did not fit my house or looked horrible with the things around or they simply could not enter the door. That is why i prefer getting all the measurements and then customize the piece of furniture I want, keeping the design, but adjusting it to my needs and to the space I have available. So I consider this Simple Wall-Mounted Bookcase perfect. First it is very simple in design and will satisfy all tastes.

Then it is modular, so you can actually arrange it on the wall the way you see fit and the way it fits best the overall design of the room. I mean you can put one module here, one there, use an irregular pattern and an asymmetrical arrangement, like you see in these pictures. The basic idea is that this bookcase is made of a series of bookshelves that are linked together in a wonderful design.

You can use this piece of furniture for extra books, for displaying art objects or for simply supporting vases and home decorations, depending on the owner’s inspiration and style. The item is made of wood and is available in various sizes and colours. You can buy it from West Elm and the price ($159) also includes the hardware needed to secure it to the wall.

Beautiful leather armchair called Juliet

Posted: 04 May 2012 08:00 AM PDT

Usually our sitting position is very important. It may influence the health of our back or may create a position which can bother you. The idea is that we need to pay attention to the pieces of furniture we choose to sit in so that we get the maximum of comfort and relaxation. After an exhausting, long day all you may wish is a comfortable chair, armchair, bed or sofa where you can sit and rest your feet.

"Juliet" is such a relaxing piece of furniture and besides that is also a representative item for the celebration of the Italian furniture company, Poltrona Frau's centenary. In order to mark this event the company organized an international competition where the participants need to focus on a theme called "a chair to spend time in", based on the use of traditional upholstery techniques.

The winner of this competition was Benjamin Hubert and his armchair "Juliet" .The design of his comfortable armchair was influenced by the Italian fashion detail of the "Juliet sleeve" although you may see it as a fragile flower too. Its "wide screen" sitting area offers many sitting positions so that you can feel nice and comfortable.

The designer used a timber framework which was upholstered in leather. His intention was to underline the features of the leather upholstery too. The color of the leather may differ so that you can choose the one that fits your interiors and preferences. The relaxing appearance of this armchair, the softness of the texture of the upholstery and its comfortable sitting positions represent features that make of it a real "chair to spend time in"!

Create your own patio with the Sky Deck Table

Posted: 04 May 2012 07:21 AM PDT

With a small balcony or with no balcony at all is definitely not what we would hope for our home to be like. But if that's the case, there's still hope. With the Sky Deck Table you can easily turn your tiny balcony or even the fire escape into a lovely patio. That's because this table is portable and can be easily installed just about anywhere there's a handrail.

The Sky Deck table was designed Torafu Architects to be attached to a handrail and it has a very simple mechanism that makes it easy to use. This ingenious table was designed for those who lack a spacious balcony or deck. It's crafted from Canadian red cedar and has a simple, strong and durable construction. It features a folding arm underneath it that has a protruding dowel that easily wraps itself around a railing. It's a very practical item that you can take with you on the fire escape from lack of any other open space.

The table will allow you enjoy a drink without worrying it will fall over the side. It's not the same as having an actual table with chairs and a spacious terrace to put them on, with it's still better than nothing. It's an item that allows you to cleverly extend the little space you have available. The Sky Deck table is manufactured by a small city in Japan that has been devastated by the tsunami so any purchase you make will help the residents rebuild their homes and everything else.

Residence with a relaxing sea landscape and spectacular mountain views

Posted: 04 May 2012 05:32 AM PDT

Brazil is one of the most beautiful locations on Earth. There is the place where you can find both sea and mountains in the same place. Because of this thing, the local architects have to compete with each other to design the most beautiful homes in the most interesting places they can find. For example, architects from Nitsche Arquitetos Associados have designed in Praia Preta, Sao Sebastiao, São Paolo, Brazil a 715 square meters property located on a piece of land between a relaxing sea landscape and spectacular mountain views.

To enjoy every moment spent in this place, the house was designed to communicate as much as possible with the exterior, with that beautiful landscaped garden filled with various local plants and trees.  The owners preferred a one-story house because they wanted to incorporate it in the natural environment, without disturbing too much the views and the ecosystem.

To avoid having a house too warm due to the local climate, the floors were covered with natural marble which is cooler than other materials. The bedrooms are placed in the left side of the building, which is more private and quiet. Every room has its own bathroom and beautiful views to the sea side.

The interior was redesigned a few years ago, so we can see that in the public area, where there is the living room, dining room and the kitchen, most of the walls were demolished and replaced with some wooden poles not to lose the structural strength of the construction, and the roof was raised higher than it was originally, to let more natural light in.

This house stands out thanks to its verandas which almost surround the building. For those who want to enjoy the sun and look at the sea side, there is the bigger veranda in front of the house, and for those who prefer more private and relaxing moments, there is the second one in the back of the house, facing the beautiful interior garden and also the mountain landscape.{found on archdaily}.

Add a touch of light to your library

Posted: 04 May 2012 04:30 AM PDT

Mr. Ed is a creation of Roderick Vos. It's a simple and multifunctional piece and the idea for it came to the designer while he was analyzing his library. At one point, he realized that a series of small lights would be a great addition to the library. The light would showcase the books and would also be very helpful for the readers as well.

As a result, he came up with the design for Mr. Ed. It's a light bulb held in place by two vertical pieces with a shape that resembles a book. This way Mr. Ed. Easily integrates into the décor of the library. Moreover, the two book-like shapes that keep the light bulb in place have another very useful function. They allow this piece to be used as a book-end. So whether you use Mr. Ed. In the library, in between books, or in your bedroom on the nightstand, it will also have a double function.

Mr. Ed. is strong enough to act as a book-end while also serving as a small lamp. It's a very useful piece for reading corners as well. The lamp/book-end can use any 40-watt bulb. However, an incandescent bulb would be the best choice, mostly because of the warm light it diffuses. The piece is made of cast aluminum and it only comes in black. You can purchase it at the price of 169.00 euros. As you might have figured it out by now, Mr. Ed. got its name after the inventor of the incandescent light bulb, Thomas Edison.

Antique Louis XVI coffee table

Posted: 04 May 2012 03:38 AM PDT

If you're an antique lover then this coffee table is exactly the type of thing you'd like. It's an antique coffee table with a very distinguished look and with lots of unique details. It features a classic French and European style. The vintage table will surely add warmth and style to any home. It's more than just an ordinary coffee table. It's also a very beautiful and unique decoration and a very precious accessory.

The table, the same as the vintage Louis XVI chair we have presented you in another one of our articles, features an original patina that's been aged and distressed from years of everyday use. The coffee table has been very well preserved and it's in great condition. All the little details are very visible and they contribute to the overall unique look. The table was crafted with a very beautiful wooden base and an inset marble top with a distressed gilt finish. The base features intricate beaded details that make this piece a one-of-a-kind item.

The overall dimensions of the coffee table are 46″W x 19″D x 19″H. It can be purchased at the price of $1,430.00. It's a very interesting piece of furniture that dates back to the 1940s. Because of it's particularly unique design and its antique look, it's difficult to match the table with other pieces of furniture. But if you're creative, you can mix it with all sorts of designs and styles. Even a contemporary décor would be suited for this table in the right conditions.

5 Ways to Decorate With Collages

Posted: 04 May 2012 12:16 AM PDT

Yesterday we showed off some different items that, used correctly, would make for some very stylish collages.  Whether your choose mirrors to make a room look bigger or doilies to make a room look more vintage it doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to decorate with the end result you create! So, today we decided to fill you in on some different ways to use and decorate with those very stylish collages. Whether made with paper, bottles, music records, frames or even photos; collages are just another great way to bring some life into your home, no matter what room you choose to liven up.

1. Use one as your bed’s headboard.

Give your bedroom a quick face lift with this very easy solution. Gather up some of your favorite frames, photos or artwork (again, anything you want!) ….. and have fun designing your arrangement. This project can be easily made to look like a chic ensemble, an eclectic mess or even a very pretty piece of creative genius.{picture from source}.

2. Use it behind your sofa.

Just like with your bedroom, using a collage behind your living room or great room sofa, gives the space an instant face lift (an instant pop!). It brings out the life in your walls and your furniture! And just like with your headboard, it doesn’t matter what you use as long as your use your imagination.{picture source}.

3. Use one on or over your kitchen table.

Kitchens are an ideal room to use and decorate with bright colors. And what better way to bring in those bright colors than with a collage full of all of them!? Try a collage over your breakfast table or even on the table using some glass bottles or vases filled flowers!{picture found on source}.

4. Use it on your stairwell wall.

A personal favorite of mine, collages make for a great transitional piece from room to room (or level to level). As you walk up or down the stairs, it’ll be like your artsy project is leading the way. A great place to use your family photos collage (so everyone can take a peek) or even something really creative like music records!{picture source}.

5. Use one above your desk.

This is a good place to decorate with inspirational pieces; a collage above your workplace will be a nice area to remind yourself to work hard but still take a break when needed. A mix of photos, fun pieces and phrases will suit your home office just right.

Nautica Sutter Creek

Posted: 03 May 2012 09:14 PM PDT

Any plaid pattern on any cloth reminds me of the kilts the Scots wear so proudly and this bedding is no exception. But it is a pattern I like and admire, so I would love bringing it to my bedroom, too. Besides, all the mix of colours and the checkers are pretty playful and give your bedroom a comforting look. This Nautica Sutter Creek bedding set is perfect for any bedroom and it comes in five pieces, available in King or Queen size, depending on your wish or on your bed size.

As incredible it may sound, the plaid pattern goes very well with the stripes of the pillow cases and the bed sheet. Any  way, the bedding design is important, but I think that the fabric is more important than that , if you want to have a nice and comfortable rest for the night. That is why I should mention that this bedding is entirely made of cotton, with 200 thread count sheets , so it is perfect for the hot summer about to come. It is OK to clean it in the washing machine and you will love having a bedding set that combines comfort, quality and good looks. The item is now available for $229.99.
