| Reclaimed wood furniture by manoteca Posted: 21 Nov 2011 06:02 AM PST Manoteca is a design studio located in Bologna, Italy. The studio specializes in reclaimed furniture design. The idea is very interesting and creative. It's actually something more people should do. Here are a few examples of what they've managed to create from reclaimed pieces of furniture.
The interesting table that you see in the pictures was actually made from an old exterior door. The table is called "outdoor", a suggestive name in this case. The new piece of furniture can now be used as a dining table for 8 or it can be opened and used as a desk/work station. The design is very interesting and the result is versatile and beautiful.
Another interesting creation is the a kitchen sink made of an old carpenter's bench. Because the structure is rather big it can be used for storage as well. The wooden shelf underneath is perfect for that. I guess with a little more work you could also add some doors and turn this into a functional storage cabinet or kitchen island. These are just two examples of how old furniture can become new again and turned into something completely different. There are several more examples on the company's website that you can visit whenever you have the time. What they do is actually very inspiring. A lot of these projects could be turned into DIY projects is you think you can handle it.{found on gessato} Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to Reclaimed wood furniture by manoteca |
| Classic upholstered chair with a delicate silhouette Posted: 21 Nov 2011 04:49 AM PST Here's a chair that features a very beautiful and versatile design. It's usually very difficult to find the right chairs for the living room, chairs that would also need to be used in the dining room and maybe even in some other places such as the terrace, deck or maybe office. Well, we found a chair that might do the trick.
This beautiful, curved chair features an elegant, classic design with a very beautiful and rather simple silhouette. It has clean and simple lines and its curved shape make even more interesting and chic. The chair is covered in durable, stain-resistant soft velvet which also makes this item very cozy and comfortable. This glamorous upholstered chair is just what you need in the house. It serves as a dining or accent chair and it can basically be used anywhere.
The chair is crafted with solid wood legs, engineered wood frame, chocolate-stained finish and stain-resistant velvet upholstery. It also has padded sloped arms. The dimensions of this chair are 21″w x 21.5″d x 36″h. It's an elegant and versatile piece of furniture and is also comes in beautiful colors, such as beige or gray. | A Successful Transformation by Adam Richards Architects Posted: 21 Nov 2011 03:29 AM PST Not too many people would think to transform a former Baptist church into a house… But what Adam Richards Architects did, is a great home, which also takes the advantage of the site’s views. Located in Plaistow, West Sussex, England, the house is a two blocks building, the one facing the road being obviously a memory of what used to be the chapel.
The large living space the first floor occupies, contrasts with the sleeping quarters of the ground floor, so dense in details and high quality materials. The entire building is the best example of a complex plan in the most comfortable and private space ever. The windows set between a series of columns provide some spectacular countryside views that do not let you forget about the beautiful part of life. What can be more pleasant than the intimate air created around the fireplace, with the two cabinets, which define the kitchen and the study area?
The interior offers a comfortable space, while the entire house and the garden seem to be a single entity that cannot be separated. Nothing compares to the unique setting of the sustainable 2-storey house, which seems to provide everything a person could dream about a home. Every room is so simple and pleasant that it makes you feel at ease and wonder why you did not think about this possibility so far. I would definitely like to live is such a great house! | Charming Mirrored Acrylic Lamp by Jonas Loenborg Posted: 21 Nov 2011 12:41 AM PST Mirror is an indispensable accessory from any lady's purse. Ladies are addicted to their exterior aspect and they want to have under control this aspect all the time. They are careful to everything that happens to their face and each time they think something is wrong they check it using their precious mirror. Of course, there are exceptions too because not all the women are the same.
If women love mirrors then a mirrored object can become more appreciated in their house. These types of objects imply the idea of reflection, the way the surrounding objects reflect into the mirrored surface and they usually create a nice atmosphere.
Take for example this charming Mirrored Acrylic Lamp by Jonas Loenborg. It is called Mini Pinecone and is a gorgeous pendant lamp that will become the focal point of any space. It has an elegant and bright design which will make you love it from the first sight.
Mini Pinecone is made of 152 parts, has the widest point of 30cm and a height of 40 cm.If you love just its design you may know that Mini Pinecone has other variants which probably can satisfy your tastes in case the mirrored variant does not seem so attractive to you. | Laurie Simmons’ brick Georgian in northwestern Connecticut Posted: 20 Nov 2011 11:48 PM PST Artist Laurie Simmons never thought that a brick Georgian would ever be her dream house. Nevertheless, when in the fall of 2000 she was asked to design a house from the ground up and she ended up with a brick Georgian in northwestern Connecticut, all her prior ideas disappeared.
When she first entered the door she immediately fell in love with the house. The house was built around the turn of the last century and had been used until recently, serving as the administration building for the Marvelwood School, a private boarding school. The property also includes an adjacent barn housing a cafeteria, science labs, music rehearsal rooms and a half basketball court.
Simmons was already mesmerized by this place and she managed to convince her husband to buy it. Now the barn has been turned into a painting studio and the basement is dedicated to art storage. When they bought the house, it was only an empty shell. They managed to turn it into their dream home, to make it inviting and cozy and everything they ever wanted.
Simmons even came up with the idea of naming each room. It seems that dream can change after all and this is the living proof. The new owners are very happy with their new home, even though if asked a few years ago they would have said this couldn't possibly happen. | Posted: 20 Nov 2011 11:09 PM PST Bookcases are very useful, especially when your living room is small and not fit for a normal bookcase, so bookshelves are preferred. Besides, bookshelves can also be used for storing different things or for decorative purposes like displaying flowers, ornaments and so on. This Network 33w Bookcase is pretty special because it has just the right size for a little living room and it looks pretty modern and great. The bookcase is meant to be hung on the wall, but you can also place it directly on the floor, as a side table or room divider.
This bookshelf is made of bamboo timber with ebony stain and brings something of the Chinese refinement and delicacy. You can use all the compartments, each of them for a different purpose. You can use it as an organizer in order to store all the trifles in a room in a single place and also as a space saver. The design is a bit asymmetrical, which makes it pretty modern and the dark brown makes it fit any room, no matter what the colour of the furniture or carpet is. It is available now for online purchasing for just $499. I like it and its simplicity. | Interview: Passion for Furniture and Lighting Systems with David Trubridge Posted: 20 Nov 2011 10:00 PM PST David Trubridge has been making and selling furniture and lighting systems for several years. In the last few years he has exhibited at 100% Design in London, nine times at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, and four times at ICFF in New York.
Q: Were you always interested in design? Tell us about the moment when you decided this is the way to go. I was always interested in making things from my earliest days of childhood. design only came later once i had mastered the craft of making wooden furniture and started to want to imbue the things i made with a bit more of me and my time.
Q:Where do you look for an obscure source of inspiration? I derive my ‘inspiration’ from nature, but the patterns and structures i design contain the forms and vocabulary that i create through my own art process. Q:What’s your current colour obsession? For a range of fabrics that we have just launched, i went to my large collection of close-up detail photographs that i have taken in the many areas of wilderness where i have hiked. These give me unlikely, but perfectly natural, colour combinations. Then we name the colour set after the landscape from which it was derived: Antarctica, Australia, Iceland, California . . .
Q:What do you consider to be the most iconic design piece of the past century? That’s really hard!! The best i can do is one of Brancusi’s ‘Bird in Space’. No-one has had more influence on 3D form in the 20th century than Brancusi, from the largest sculpture and building to the simplest shampoo bottle. He is like a signpost standing at the start of the modernist era, a radical point of transition between it and the previous age of rampant surface decoration.
Q:What do you think is the easiest way to update a room? Adding a piece of furniture does little to a room, but you can transform it just by hanging one of our lights, mostly because you are adding emotion which fills the room. This may be the primal feel of something like late afternoon sun filtering through spring foliage, or firelight flickering on a cave ceiling. Plus it uses the space below the ceiling which is usually empty, so nothing needs to be moved.
Q:What is your favourite interior style? Warm, personal, simple, timeless Q:What is your favourite book/magazine on design? ‘Cradle to Cradle’ by McDonagh and Braungart.
Q:How about your favourite site? Designboom Q:What you recommend for next year ? Learn to enjoy and live with what you have — don’t treat your home like an ephemeral fad that needs constantly updating. Don’t listen to the stylemongerers who want us to buy more stuff, not because we need it but because they, and the whole economy on whose behalf they speak, need us to buy it. We can’t go on doing that to the planet any more! Q:What advice do you have for young designers or architects reading this interview? Don’t follow fads and trends. Learn to speak from your own heart with integrity and stick with that. Ultimately you will be more respected and that will keep you there for the long haul; the weak and superficial followers will be exposed for what they are and will fade away.
Q:What are your plans for the future? To produce more experience and culture and less material ‘stuff’. To be able to put into the practice of my business more of my environmental and political beliefs. I do believe that humans need culture simply because we have always made art since we lived in caves. It defines who we are. But we have to find ways to fulfil that need sustainably. Q:What do you think of our site? It is great to get people thinking about how they live in their homes because it is so important in how it makes us feel. But i do think you should include more about making responsible choices — choices that consider the world that our grandchildren will inherit from us. | The Perfection of a Canadian Apartment Posted: 20 Nov 2011 08:23 PM PST An apartment can be changed into a modern and more appropriate place in which space can be better used that you always have the feeling that all the others are better than your own in so many ways. The way in which the flat in the picture was changed is obviously a very good solution, the result being a large home that separates the public space from the private space, thing wanted by all of us. It can be included in the modern, urban living, so appreciated these days when everything changes too fast.
The continuous floor-to ceiling wall of cabinetry had the role of providing more space and gaining amount of storage. The ellipse form was used in order to create enclosures, the nuanced delineations of the sleeping area, dining area and living area being the most appropriate in this context.
The white porcelain tile was definitely used to unify the interior, its reflective properties contributing to a luminous space, while the whiteness of the walls and of some furniture pieces, just like the wide glass windows give the impression of a even larger space. All sorts of colorful spots and decorative objects animate the entire atmosphere: the red chair in the desk, the brown sofa, the religious corner, the art objects that reveal the personality of the owner. Everything is so bright, modern and elegant in the whiteness of this open space that makes you feel comfortable and at ease!Forget to say that this apartment was design by Kariouk Associates. | The minimalist Terra dining table Posted: 20 Nov 2011 08:00 PM PST Today's furniture is mostly minimalist. We now perceive as elegant something simple rather than something with lots and lots of decorations and details. In my opinion this is better because in the end it's the core, the inner structure that matters and not all the embellishments.
The Terra dining table is a beautiful example of modern, minimalist furniture. The table is made of durable wood certified as sustainably harvested by the nonprofit Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC). The table has then been finished with water-based stain and recycled-aluminum hardware. It's a strong and simple piece of furniture that would make a great addition to any dining room. /because of its simple structure, the table can also be used as a desk or work surface.
The toxin-free water-based stains and glues, the recycled aluminum hardware and the FSC-certified engineered wood make this an eco-friendly product. This 73'' dining table is able to accommodate up to eight people while the 90'' dining table seats up to 10 people. The overall dimensions are 72″w x 36″d x 30″h/ 90″w x 36″d x 30″h and the price varies between EUR393.73 – EUR472.64. Simple assembly is required. No special care is required. Just wide with a soft, dry cloth and avoid the use of chemicals and household cleaners in order to protect the finish. | Posted: 20 Nov 2011 07:10 PM PST One of my favorite colors is blue. I just adore this color which makes me feel great and comfortable. Blue clothes, blue accessories, a blue car or anything else are things that will always be on my favorite list. Even the day I said "yes" in front of my future husband was marked by this color. I wore a light blue suit, my jewelry was also light blue and my husband's suit was dark blue too.
Blue is a color that can you associate it with a light blue sky or the blue water of a river or sea that fascinates our sights. In Chicago it has appeared Radisson Blu hotel, in a building that is called the Aqua Tower. The moment you see the structure of this building you will know why it was called like that. Its exterior design imitates the wavy surface of water while its rooms are dominated by the blue accents.
It is a place where you can relax spending some moments at the fitness centre, enjoying a great meal in the Italian restaurant or taking advantage of the large bar or other offers that you cannot refuse.
You will be amazed by the lobby design which will impress you with its wall made of gold metal discs, the huge white floor lamps or the gallery art of the hotel. Everything seems glamorous, even in the bathroom there is a black tile flecked with sparkles.
