Posted: 16 Nov 2011 11:35 AM PST I don’t know if this is just something in my head like the placebo pills or it’s just real, but when I sleep in a bed with nice looking clean and nice smelling sheets I sleep better and have a very refreshing rest. It’s like the bedding makes the perfect environment for a good night’s sleep. Any way, I like choosing colourful bedding, especially when it comes to pillow covers, because they are the first that come into contact with our eyes. I like floral patterns and nice pastel colours, that is why I just love this Pillowcover – Crepe Myrtle. But this pillow cover is very special because it is hand printed and the inks used are hand mixed. Also the cotton used for the base of this pillow cover is totally organic and pre-washed before being printed. This might require special attention when doing the laundry, so it would be a good idea to use cold water and wash it by hand in order to avoid mixing the colours. One such item can be bought from the online shop of Sarah Parker for the price of $40. Posted: 16 Nov 2011 11:13 AM PST When I go to the restaurant I like to try new things and new tastes. But I must admit the exterior design is very much important, too, when it comes to the opinion I make when looking at a certain food. And experienced chefs know that. That is why the best restaurants focus on both fields: the quality of the food cooked and the design of the displayed food. So I guess one of the most important things here is the way the dishes look. A nice looking plate will draw attention on the food it has on and will focus your eyes on the exterior. This Dinner Plate from Le Creuset is perfect to illustrate my words. It is made of stoneware and has a colourful and durable exterior. The design is pretty simple, but delicate with three concentric circles on the edge of the plate and a unique colour on the whole plate. The enamel on the outside protects it from scratches or other marks. The plate is manufactured using very high temperatures and this allows it to be thermal resistant, so it is perfectly safe to use it in the freezer, but also in the microwave oven, broiler and dishwasher. There are more available colours and you can now purchase this item for just $20. Czech Mid-century Coffee Table Posted: 16 Nov 2011 10:11 AM PST I love modern furniture, but somehow I feel that old furniture, at least 50 years old has a certain patina that gives it respectability, style and something that attracts people around it. It that air of nobility that glows around those objects belonging to the royal family, those objects that were inherited from generation to generation. This beautiful Czech Mid-century Coffee Table is a beautiful piece of furniture that will embellish every living room. It is very simple in design, yet it draws attention thanks to the style and elegance. The legs of the table are made of solid beech and look very elegant, thin and graceful even. The table top is an interesting combination of beech trim and white formica that looks great in a modern, but also in a traditional living room. The table is a bit too high for my taste, but some people like it this way. It is authentic and it was made in the Czech Republic some time back, in the middle of the twentieth century. It’s beautiful and draws attention and it is a complete item since it is both useful and functional, but also very decorative. If you like the item and wat it badly, you can purchase it from the web site for $800. Airbnb’s Lovely Headquarters in San Francisco Posted: 16 Nov 2011 07:09 AM PST Airbnb’s San Francisco Headquarters caught our eye and we would like to share this experience with you. Airbnb is a community marketplace for people to list, discover and book unique spaces around the world online or from an iPhone device. Designed by Garcia Tamjidi, this place is amazing. The architect tried to create a space that makes sense in the context of the company’s mission. The most interesting and unique things about it are the meeting rooms which are models of homes that are featured on their site. These rooms try to bring closer to them some designs that could represent what they do, some lovely interiors that could convince everyone of the advantages they would have if they turn to this company.
Their offices are very bright and, as you can see, it facilitates communication between people, an aspect that is extremely important. These spaces are modern and airy. Their headquarters also has an industrial look due to the uncovered pipelines that add to the flavor of the place. Moreover it really is an unique approach that has influences from Berlin, Hong kong, New York City and Aptos, California. All in all, this company invests a lot in its clients and this can also be seen in their headquarters as well. It is an inspiring and beautiful place to work at. Loom small space combining old and modern Posted: 16 Nov 2011 06:19 AM PST Loom is an artist’s studio and it was designed for a client in Aspen. The project was designed by Colorado-based 1 Friday Design Collaborative and it’s a particularly small space with a very distinct design that combines history and modernity. Loom is located in Aspen, Colorado, United States. It was completed in September 2011. the studio covers an area of 500 square feet and designing it wasn’t that simple. The architects first had to take into consideration the environmental factors and the LEED guidelines, as well as the location and the surroundings.
Loom is located in an area filled with historic Victorian houses so that was also a factor in the decision regarding the design of the studio. The architects simplified the Victorian aesthetics and cam up with a simple form for the studio and a neutral color palette. The studio has a 2-story structure and it also features a back yard filled with evergreen trees. When building the studio, the architects used high-performance materials and also took advantage of the solar orientation. As for the interior design, the architects took their inspiration from the building’s name. On the second floor there’s a wall inspired by a traditional weaving loom. The rest of the interior is rather simple and mostly white, with large bookshelves and functional working areas.{found on archdaily} Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to Loom small space combining old and modern |
A showpiece of modern architecture designed for friends Posted: 16 Nov 2011 05:33 AM PST This showpiece of modern architecture is located in Berlin. It's actually the location that dictated the design. It all began in 2002 when, one day, architect Christoph Roedig and Mr. Schop who had recently formed an architecture firm, stumbled upon an empty plot. They need started to form a plan. They wanted to create a showpiece that would illustrate the concepts of their newly firm architecture firm plus they also needed a place to live. The two architects were also aware of the fact that many of their friends were searching for homes so they decided to create a win-win situation and create a co-op building. The plan was to build 10 apartments, each according to the buyer's specifications, with communal areas and shared costs. Just recently I was imagining how It would be like to be able to build a large structure where I could live with all my friends. I guess those guys already know how that feels like.
The construction of the building began in 2004 and was completed a year later for $1,1 million that all the owners shared. The result was a six-story building with 10 apartment units, just like they had planned. The structure is sheathed in fiber concrete and has a light grey color. The building was designed to be a modern structure that also includes communal spaces where everyone can gather and spend time together. It's a building for friends.{found on nytimes} Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to A showpiece of modern architecture designed for friends |
Modern Schindler house remodel in Inglewood Posted: 16 Nov 2011 04:26 AM PST Once upon a time there was a Schindler house in Inglewood. It wasn’t the only one of its kind in that area but it was the one that needed a remodel and need it quickly. Architect Steven Ehrlich was the one that got to restore it. His goal was to restore the old house so that it would become a cozy home for a young family. The almost 1,000 square feet house was not in such bad condition. It was just old and needed to be updated and brought into the 21st century. It took the architect nine month to do that. The house was small: a 2-bedroom, one-bathroom residence. The idea was to remodel the house, to give it a modern look while still preserving the main characteristics that made it a Schindler.
As this types of homes often feature built-in furniture, a built-in desk was also added into the living room. Another challenge was to recreate the original colors that have been used. They had faded out and it was difficult to guess the exact tone. The architect also added a new kitchen and bathroom and this time he used modern materials. He thought that if Schindler was alive today he would be using the materials of our era. Some changes have bee made. Schindler never paid much attention to the kitchen as he considered it a simple utility area. But since nowadays the kitchen has become more of a social area, it was brought up to date. Overall, this Schindler house got an elegant remodel and it’s ready to be used by its new owners.{found on latimesblog} Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to Modern Schindler house remodel in Inglewood |
Contemporarary Ola Kitchen by Snaidero Posted: 16 Nov 2011 03:47 AM PST Snadeiro's Ola Kitchen is a legend and it's been around for over 20 years. It has become a classic and it's been in production since 1990. A while ago the award-winning kitchen finally got a new look. It was the result of the collaboration between Snaidero and the Pininfarina Group. The Ola Kitchen got an update in 2000 when the Pininfarina Studio brought it up to date with new handles, new colors, a new worktop in steel and new wall units. The technical content of the kitchen however remained the same, as well as the well-known curved look. It was a big decision. Now the 20-year old Ola Kitchen is a contemporary design. It has a softer look while also maintaining many of the original features.
Some of the changes that can be mentioned include the doors that got a more minimalist look and integrated handles, the new worktop support that has been introduced for island units and bar units and, of course, the overall highly sculpted design. And this is how the Ola Kitchen got reinvented. Let's hope it will stay on top for 20 more years. However, change is not always bad and one doesn't have to wait so many years to apply it. The classic Ola Kitchen, now modern and elegant, is as appealing as it has always been, just in a different wrapping. Again, this is because it will endure for generations, acceptance you to canyon it down to your accouchement if they one day own a home of their own.
