Stunning Residence in Maryland by David Jameson Posted: 15 Nov 2011 12:07 PM PST David Jameson has done it again, this time in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. The architects has managed to create a home that looks like a courtyard inserted between two heavy walls. The Glenbrook Residence is an unique building that will catch your eye. The house was built to create distinct yet connected structures that allows it to be divided spatially into the most public, most private and a living pavilion that can become either or both. The design was thought as being of the earth, so the materials and shapes are heavy, static pieces. The public and private wings act as the backbone that supports the various courtyards, upper canopies and the dynamic living pavilion that sits between.
The center-piece of the house is represented by the living pavilion that is set between the heavy wall elements of the home and houses the cooking, eating and living spaces. Another interesting aspect is that the glass walls that are beneath the canopies create the illusion of a floating roof. Moreover each space has an outdoor terrace or some special connection to the site. But wait, that’s not all, the building is made of all natural materials with a 100-year lifespan and features a underground spring-fed furnace HVAC system. What do you think? Posted: 15 Nov 2011 10:07 AM PST What I knew about the Golden Compass was the fact that it is a very well-known movie that was meant for the kids but most liked by adults and which had less success than expected. Any way, I like Geography and everything connected to it, so no compass will leave me uninterested. So this very name attracted me and I tried to find out more about it. So I realized that the item I am going to describe here is actually a side table. It does resemble an old compass with golden lines, but nothing further. This table is round and pretty small in size, having 18" in diameter x 28"OH. It is supported by one leg that has four other “claws” that keep it in balance on the ground. The leg is made of gold wood and the table top is made of lacquered wood. It looks antique because it is an old item that has been repainted and refurbished. The most interesting part for me is the table top which is brown, but has some golden rays coming out of the center, just like the arms of a compass, showing the way. If you want it you can have it for $325. Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to Golden Compass Side Table |
Butterfly Table Cloth with Matching Napkins by LuLu Dk Posted: 15 Nov 2011 09:37 AM PST Winter is approaching with fast steps and when I get out of my house I can almost smell the coldness. And in these moments I can’t help dreaming about summer and warmth, about leaves of grass and butterflies. I love butterflies and I think they are so delicate and fragile, but also so strong and beautiful, amazing creatures. So what could be more refreshing and inspiring than a nice table cloth covered with dozens of butterflies? Well, I guess the answer is a tablecloth with butterflies and a matching set of table napkins. These items are wonderful and look great together. And they are designed by Lulu Dk. The butterflies are colourful and spread all over the table cloth and the background is totally white which makes them even more conspicuous. The table cloth has a taped scalloped edge and is made of a combination of materials: 30% Cotton/48% Polyester/18% Viscose/4% Linen. This allows it to look great and also to be easily washing in the washing machine without having all the colours mixed up or getting too many wrinkles. You can get one such table cloth starting from $124, depending on the shape and size you want it and also a set of napkins or place mats for about $99. The 106 Carpenter Street Residence in Melbourne, Australia Posted: 15 Nov 2011 07:55 AM PST A great example of impressing contemporary architecture is the 106 Carpenter Street Residence. The property is located in Brighton, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. It features an unusual contemporary design that makes this residence stand out. It's an impressive two-story contemporary home with an intriguing modern architecture. The exterior of the house features full height sliding timber wall panels that function both as practical elements that allow the inhabitants to let in the natural light whenever they want, and as a modern architecture element. The entry door is impressive and it's made of solid oak. The full height door leads to a large hallway. Then you get to the informal, open plan living area that also includes the dining area. The interior design is mostly minimalist, with white walls that contribute to the brightness of this space and minimalist furniture. The general image is hat of a spacious and elegant home.
The living room extends to a private courtyard, equipped with fully fitted outdoor cooking facilities. As for the interior structure, the second floor of the house accommodates three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a guest bedroom and a study. The rest of the rooms, meaning the public areas of the house, are on the ground floor. The division is practical and smart, allowing privacy for those upstairs and plenty of entertainment space for everyone else.{found on freshome} Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to The 106 Carpenter Street Residence in Melbourne, Australia |
The Cantina Mexicana Restaurant Interior Design Posted: 15 Nov 2011 05:39 AM PST Cantina Mexicana is a Mexican food restaurant and it was designed by young architects firm Taller Tiliche. The team working at this project was formed of Alberto Bustamante, Rodrigo Escandón and Manuel Bueno, Jerónimo. The restaurant is located in Mexico City, Mexico and its construction was finished in 2011. The restaurant unveils a new, modern vision and features a contrasting and unusual design. The space has polished concrete floors and a traditional interior design. What's striking is the ceilings that has been left unfinished on purpose. I'm not sure what the main idea behind this decision was but the overall look is unconventional and contrasting, a combination of old and new.
The restaurant has sanded wooden tables and stools, together with shelves located between the walls of the restaurant that are filled with bottles and Mexican traditional products. The kitchen is located in a separate room. The restaurant is a combination of retail, display and production areas, it's a place where you can see what you get and you can either serve it there or take it to go. There's no division between public and private spaces and the pedestrians can take a quick look inside and usually decide to go in. It's an inviting place, a cozy atmosphere and great food, all in one structure.{found on archdaily and pics by Luis Gallardo} Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to The Cantina Mexicana Restaurant Interior Design |
The flexible Giano desk by Egidio Panzera Posted: 15 Nov 2011 03:10 AM PST Desks are a particular type of furniture that needs to follow some rules. For example, a desk must be, first of all, functional and easy to use and to maintain. Also, it should not include too many details and decorations. A desk also needs to be flexible as to allow the user to adapt it to his/her immediate needs. One particular desk design that fulfills all those criteria is Giano. Giano is a flexible desk that was designed by Egidio Panzera for Sacea Industrie. Giano features a deliberately minimalist design meant to simplify as much as possible the actual structure and design and to make the desk more accessible and easy to use. Also, it's a very functional piece of furniture that provides just the right amount of space needed. Moreover, it's a flexible design and it's available in multiple models and shapes. Additional storage units and shelves can also be purchased in case they are needed.
Giano is a minimalist, flexible, practical and also chic and stylish desk that would look beautiful in a home office, in a regular office or basically anywhere else it might be needed. The dimensions vary according to the model and shape. The desk is particularly attractive because of its minimalist design. Different colors are available and the storage units and shelves can be combined as desired. The flexible Reflex sectional by Toine van den Heuvel Posted: 15 Nov 2011 02:38 AM PST Nowadays everyone is looking for flexible, versatile and multi-purpose pieces of furniture that allows them to creatively decorate their home. And when the buyers demand something, the designers get to work and make it come true. Here's one of the responses to that problem. It's called Reflex and it's a modular sectional sofa. The piece was designed by Toine van den Heuvel and it's a modern creation that appeared on the market this year (2011). The Reflex sectional sofa is best described by its flexibility. It's a modular sofa with an otherwise pretty simple design. The sectional or sofa is actually a series of fauteuils with or without armrests that can be combined to form the desired shape.
Use them with a pouffe and a coffee table and you get the perfect living room furniture set. The main attraction of this piece and all modular pieces as a matter of fact is that they provide endless possibilities. They can be combined in various ways and this means that you'll never get bored with your furniture and you'll also be able to deal with a large number of situations, such as friends and relatives coming over and other activities. You can also combine colors for a more contrasting look or simply choose the same color for all the elements and create a surprisingly traditional décor, with s surprise twist. The FIU FIU Boutique Interior Design from Warsaw, Poland Posted: 15 Nov 2011 01:23 AM PST BudCud and Marcin Kwietowicz designed the FIU FIU Boutique located in Warsaw, Poland for Fiu Fiu Concept Magdalena Wołosz. The project covers an area of 31 square meters and its construction was competed in 2011. The small dimensions of this project are in contradiction with the architect's dream to design big and imposing projects. However, it was a satisfying project. Fiu Fiu boutique is a small space with a bright décor and a very pleasant atmosphere. All items found in this shop originate from Scandinavia so the atmosphere is a reminder of those areas and of the Scandinavian landscape. The boutique has a long structure and a naive design, more like the kind of houses children usually draw. There's hardly enough room for display, cash desk, fitting rooms and storage space.
As for the interior design, the furniture is simple and it usually has rails for more flexibility. The display areas are simple and cute and so is the atmosphere. There's a certain cozyness in there that can't really be described. The boutique has a wooden structure and when seen from outside it looks like a little wooden house. It has white interiors and raw carpentry. The white walls and ceilings were essential in this case because they help create and bright and light atmosphere and the interior area seems definitely more spacious.{found on archdaily} Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to The FIU FIU Boutique Interior Design from Warsaw, Poland |
The Folsom Street Residential Laboratory Project Posted: 15 Nov 2011 12:49 AM PST The Folsom Street Residential Laboratory was a project developed by Todd Verwers Architects. It's an adaptation of a commercial building's top floor. The loft is located on Folsom Street in San Francisco, California, USA and it's a 5,775 square foot area that occupies the top floor of a 1920's concrete frame structure in San Francisco's Soma neighborhood. The space was adapted to the current owner's needs and it has been turned into a giant toolbox. The owner's urban lifestyle is what determined the architects working at this project to choose this type of interior décor. They used commercial and institutional materials and formed a flexible and creative space.
The kitchen includes laboratory cabinets and functional shelves that can be used for storage. The space is an open-floor area and the rooms, if they can even be called like this, are not separated by walls. A customized computer floor forms the sleeping platform while an aluminum framing forms an adaptable framing system for an electronics laboratory. The décor is unusual but some of these components were actually customized to specific client-requirements. The client has a very active and utilitarian lifestyle that combined different types of activities, just the way this loft combined all those spaces. In this sense, the loft suits the client perfectly. It's not what most of us would want their home to look like but it's what this particular client wanted and is happy with.{foudn on homedsgn} Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to The Folsom Street Residential Laboratory Project |
The best small house of 2011 by Domenic Alvaro Posted: 15 Nov 2011 12:10 AM PST What you see here is the house that received the world architecture festival award for best house of 2011 for ‘small house’. The residence was designed by architect Domenic Alvaro of international practice woods bagot. It's a single-family residence located in Surry Hills, Sydney, Australia. It has a 7 by 6 meter footprint and a compact design. The five-level residence is an impressive structure both seen from outside as well as form the inside. The private areas are placed within a windowless structure at the ground level while the public areas are situated on the upper floors and are filled with natural light. The main entry features a garage as well as a staircase that leads to the master bedroom and bath from the first floor.
There's also a matching open riser stairway that allows access to the living area, the study area and the roof terrace. The roof terrace also features a garden filled with plants and even trees. The structure of this residence is odd at first but it all starts to make sense once you see all the rooms and start to realize why they have been divided in such a way. I particularly like the exterior design of this residence. It's very compact, very simple and very mysterious but once you get inside it gets inviting and cozy.{found on designboom} Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to The best small house of 2011 by Domenic Alvaro |
