The Utopian Quinta da Baronesa

Posted: 11 Nov 2011 10:15 AM PST

This piece of paradise seems almost too good to be true. It's rare to find such a beautiful location, with extensive natural landscape and beautiful vegetation, not to mention the uninterrupted and panoramic views. It's exactly how Quinta da Baronesa could be best described.

This is an exquisite residence and it's located in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The beautiful grass slopes hide the residence from the street and they provide beautiful views for the inhabitants. The house resembles an emerging wooden block and it's actually made from organic sustainable Cumaru and old brick from a former demolition. So it's not just beautiful but also sustainable and environment-friendly.

The house was designed by Studio Arthur Casas and their intention was to create a house that would go unnoticed from the street perspective. I think they've done more than that. The slopes carefully conceal the house and the organic materials used to build it are a reward for nature's kindness.

The residence features a network of interconnected open areas including a horizontal pergola, an endless lap pool and a lush golf course. Quinta da Baronesa is a great family home. It's the type of home most people dream of. Even though I prefer apartment and I would never accept to move into a house, I have to say that I'm beginning to have second thoughts.{pics made by Leonardo Finotti}

Beautiful Farmhouse Dining Room Transformation

Posted: 11 Nov 2011 07:07 AM PST

This dark and outdated farmhouse dining room got an upgrade fit for a king. With a lot of hardwork and passion this scary room is now the perfect gathering spot for family and friends.

As you can see this dining room didn’t need a lot of tampering with. A fresh, clean coat of paint made all the difference. With this new look the room is bright and feels more airy than it was before. The next step was to stain the floors and then to clear coat them, a task that made them look new. Another thing they did was to remove the old chandelier and replace it with a more modern light pendant.

Now, all that was left to be done was to decorate the room. They chose a rather big table that could house a lot of people, but to keep things interesting they played a little with the chairs, choosing different types to give it a playful look. A cabinet was placed in the space in order to provide storage and a hint of color. The carpet is also a great element because it is made out of wool and brightens the place up. The most interesting thing was that they didn’t need curtains because the house is tucked back off the road and very private.

The results of this renovation are amazing. They managed to lighten and brighten the room with an eclectic flair.{found on curbly}

Contemporary Two-Level Private House by Weinstein Vaadia Architects

Posted: 11 Nov 2011 04:44 AM PST

This lovely two-level family residence is located in Sharon Area, Israel. It covers a total surface of 300 square meters and it was a project by Weinstein Vaadia Architects. The construction of the house was completed in 2007. The requirements coming from the clients were very clear. They had to build a private house with two levels and with separate gardens for each level. The house also needed to have a very clearly distinguished internal structure.

One of the levels would be used by the parents while the other belongs to the children. This way they won't interfere in each other's lives more than it's necessary and they will all have a sense of privacy. The children occupy the lower level and the parents use the upper level that also provides views to the nearby sea. The house is separate from the street by a grassy slope that hides almost entirely the residence from the unwanted views.

The parent's level includes a loft space divided into living, kitchen, sleeping and dining areas. There are no separating walls and the different spaces are divided by furniture. The upper level that belongs to the parents also provides shade for the children's level. Each level has a private garden and they are connected by the slope of grass that surrounds the house.{found on archdaily and pics by Amit Geron}

The chalkboard menu : simple and fun

Posted: 11 Nov 2011 03:41 AM PST

Are you looking for a way to impress your guests during Thanksgiving dinner or for any other occasion for that matter? While searching on the internet we came across a very ingenious project: the chalkboard menu. You know those menus sometimes written on a board outside restaurants or shops? They don't seem that fun or interesting but that changes when you take them inside.

diy chalkboard menu

The idea is basically the same. This project shows you how to have a chalkboard menu in your own home. You can include it in the kitchen, in the dining room or living room, and the idea can be expanded and adapted for other purposes as well. Here's how you can manage to do that. If you have an armoire or tall cabinet that doesn't really make a statement in your home than maybe it's time for a makeover.

diy chalkboard menu

First wash the side you'll be using for this project in order to prepare it for the paint. Then tape off the section that you're planning to sue as a work space. Now all you have to do is start painting. You can use black chalkboard paint and a small smooth surface roller. Now the hard part: the waiting.

After applying three coats of paint let it dry for three days. Then remove the tape and you're almost done. You can also cut some vinyl lettering and apply them before seasoning the chalkboard. Now, to season it, take a piece of chalk and gently color the entire surface of the board. Then erase it and you're done.{found on whipperberry}

The nostalgic Home of Charlotte Adrian

Posted: 11 Nov 2011 02:51 AM PST

This beautiful retro residence belongs to senior designer Charlotte Adrian who is working for Royal Copenhagen. As you can imagine even without seeing the actual pictures taken inside the house, a designer's home would have to be stylish and very well planned. After all, it's a very personal project and when it's coming from a senior designer it's expected to be impressive. Now let's take a closer look at this nostalgic residence.

The nostalgic Home of Charlotte Adrian

The interior design is rather simple with few but strong decorative pieces. A remarkable element would be the amount of porcelain items that can be seen throughout the house. It's clear that the designer and in this case also the owner has a special affinity for that particular type of decorations. Among other particular elements and pieces of furniture we can mention the rosewood Cadovious wall unit from the dining room. This piece integrates naturally into that particular room and it's also an important component of the décor.

Another interesting element is the large dining table that seems to be the center of attention in that particular room. Also, the classic Eames DWR chairs that complement the image. The furniture throughout the house is mostly vintage but there are also some modern Danish pieces. The overall décor is clean and simple and the existing details and decorations are carefully placed and carefully chosen. It's a particularly stylish home, elegant but also cozy.{found on bobedre}

The colorful Chevron House in West London

Posted: 11 Nov 2011 12:00 AM PST

What you see here looks more like an office or a headquarters of some sort but it's actually a private residence. It's not just any residence but a very colorful one with an extremely energetic and dynamic interior design. The Chevron House is located in West London and it was designed by award winning design firm Andy Martin Architects. It's a modern home, inspired by the architecture of most contemporary homes out there but with exaggerated proportions and details.

Colorful Chevron House in West London

This is a house that was designed to impress. This is also a little exaggerated in my opinion, since one's home should be designed to respond to the inhabitants' needs, to be cozy and inviting, the place where you want to be when you're having a bad day. But if this is what the owners of this place see as a perfect home then who are we to judge them? Let's take a closer look at this property.

The walls from the interior have been removed thus resulting in an open floor plan. Each of the three levels shares the same characteristics and the décor is very dynamic and eye-catching. The ground floor houses the public spaces of the house and the different areas are divided only by the use of color and material. The second and third floors include the private areas with bedrooms and bathrooms.

The kitchen and the living areas have been extended into the garden as to benefit from the natural light. As for the interior design, notice how the ceilings and the walls and light in color and it's only the furniture and the accessories that feature vibrant colors. This creates a fresh and energetic atmosphere.

Stunning House in Texas by Bercy Chen Studio

Posted: 10 Nov 2011 10:58 PM PST

Cascading Creek House is a single-family residence designed by Bercy Chen Studio. Located in rural Texas, USA, this amazing house was recently completed. Siting on a 11,796sqf plot, this modern home is also an eco-friendly one, featuring photovoltaics, rainwater collection and hydronic heating and cooling.

The most striking element of this project’s architecture is the roof, especially designed to collect rainwater and then some of it is poured into a basin giving the feel of a waterfall. The water, electricity and heat which are harvested on the roof tie into an extensive climate conditioning system to supply both the heating and cooling for the residence.

The form and siting of the house addresses the social issues of American suburbia. The low profile of the building offers an alternative to the morphology of massive suburban homes in Texas. Moreover this unique house embraces nature, presenting itself towards the wilderness below. It has huge windows that flood the house with natural light. Also, the color palette is neutral thus creating a bright, airy space. It presents modern furnishings, interesting light fixtures and upscale stainless steel appliances, making it a luxurious place.

Cascading Creek House is a warm and welcoming place to land, a home that presents a stunning exterior and a gorgeous interior. It really is a great place to retreat to!{found on homedsgn}

Here's an example of a kitchen makeover created with a small budget and not even a lot of effort.

Practical DIY Kitchen Makeover

This kitchen used to look old and boring. It was still functional but it needed a makeover. The kitchen was remodeled using only a few lasting and practical solutions. In order to transform the kitchen and bring it to the present state as in the after picture you can see here, several stages and steps had to be followed. First, the kitchen needed a new color palette. The yellow and brown tones it used to have weren't really what the owners wanted. They needed something fresh and more modern so white was a good option.

The new color palette if fresh and calm and the new kitchen is simple but chic and elegant. It's a new kitchen that got a creative makeover with a small budget and lasting changes.
