Contemporary Black Facade Schuler Villa in Switzerland

Posted: 09 Nov 2011 05:02 AM PST

Schuler Villa is a beautiful contemporary residence located in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. The villa has been designed by andrea pelati architecte and the team that put their hearts in this project was composed of Andrea Pelati, Raphaël Fromaigeat, Anna Popek-Schmalstieg and Sandy Erlebach. The construction of the house was completed in 2010 and the total project area is around 690 square meters.

The house sits on a narrow plot in the center of the village of Boundry and it's surrounded by houses, a church and an old mansion. The house is a rather unusual presence in that area, with its contemporary design and imposing structure. It's a residence that was designed to favor intimacy so it has a compact structure with rather small windows on the front façade. The public spaces are widely opened on one side in order to benefit from the natural light and the environment.

The residence features 3 levels and the rooms are functionally divided among these areas. The ground floor includes a rental apartment with direct access to the garden. The entrance hall of the apartment also connects to the bedroom's hall and to a staircase that leads to the attic. This area is a day zone. On the south side there's the dining room and a terrace. Because the façade of the villa has different heights, this allows the owners to hide behind these walls and to enjoy intimacy and serenity.{found on archdaiy and pics by Thomas Jantscher}

50 Attic bedroom design ideas

Posted: 09 Nov 2011 03:48 AM PST

Whenever a family is growing the existing house becomes a little too small. It’s the case when a new baby comes along or when someone else from the family decided to join the group. It such situations people usually move out and choose a bigger house. But if you are emotionally attached to your existing home and are too keen to leave it with all the memories inside you could try to restructure the house and make some more room. Also, a very practical idea for houses that have attics would be to use that space to create a new bedroom.

Attics can be very cozy and even though they are sometimes perceived as creepy and cold, they would make a great bedroom. Here are some ideas of how you can transform an attic into a cozy and inviting extra bedroom. Take a look at the pictures and maybe they will inspire you to start your own project.

There’s really no reason why the attic should stay empty. If there’s not any special reason why you need that space for storage then there should be no reason why you couldn’t turn it into a lovely bedroom. There are some basic steps to follow in order to complete such a project. First you would have to remove anything you might have stored there. Then, when the space is empty, apply a new coat of paint on the walls. You should try to brighten up the place. Use colors such as yellow or green for a fresh look.

Next furnish the place. It might be difficult to get the furniture in there so make a plan first and make sure you know where each piece should stay because it’s going to be hard to change anything after that. You don't need much, just a cozy bed and a nightstand, maybe a closet and a table as well.

Finally, add some decorations and you’re done. Since there are exposed beams on the ceiling you can use them to create a romantic project that you would be able to see every night before you go to bed. You can use these pictures as inspiration or come up with your own project.{pics from here}

In case your kids have a tough time studying while they are at home, their computer, Video games, or the TV aren't the ones to blame. Your kids probably have trouble studying because they don't have the right atmosphere for it in their rooms. Have you put up a desk in their room? In case you haven't, and if you don't have a dedicated study where your kids can study and work on their assignments comfortably, why not get them a loft bed with a built-in desk. Most children consider their bedrooms a very private space where they work and play. If you give them a suitable workspace in their room, they'll be happier and they'll actually work harder.
