Before and After: Transforming an old slipper chair into an elegant one Posted: 03 Nov 2011 08:12 AM PDT Kayla is a self- confessed DIY-aholic who made a remarkable thing with an old little chair that she found in a garage. Her DIY project reminded me of the multitude of things that I found in my mother-in-law's garage who has decided to remove all things out and sell it. I was impressed of how many things she could store there and which were of no use to her right now. Hardly could she give up all those things which proved to be more useful to some of her relatives who were living in the country side. Perhaps there is a moment when we come to an age and we are not able to give up many things that were useful sometimes. The same thing happened to Kayla although the reason might be her passion for DIY projects. She managed to restore and reconditioned an old slipper chair which had awful stained upholstery and transformed it into a nice and elegant slipper chair. Some graphic black and white fabric and a can of paint proved to be the necessary materials for such a nice DIY project.
She began with the painting of the legs of the chair in red and then she continued with stripping the chair down to the frame. The rest of the work was real simple and the result proved to be amazing.{found on confessionsofadiyaholic} Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to Before and After: Transforming an old slipper chair into an elegant one |
Posted: 03 Nov 2011 07:26 AM PDT This particular bench looks so authentic that it's hard not to stop and contemplate it. It's part of a larger line of sustainable outdoor furniture and it's a product handmade on order. The bench is made of locally sourced catalpa wood and steel. It features a design that's both rugged and beautiful, that combines durability and style. Since the bench is made on order, it can be customized. You can choose the dimensions and the type of wood you want for your bench and you can make these choices depending on the type of environment and décor you plan to use it for. If it's going to be an outdoor bench you can choose durable and more resistant materials as well as larger dimensions as opposed to a smaller bench meant for indoor use only.
The price for each bench depends on the dimensions you choose and on the type of wood. A bench measuring approximately 4′ long, 30″ wide (at widest point), 40″ tall (at back) made of salvaged catalpa would cost you $1.500. Every product is hand made and thus unique. The items are crafted in a small studio in Woodstock, NY. They are made using only locally and sustainably harvested or salvaged American hardwoods, and natural, organic, food safe finishes. You can also take a look at some of the other elements from the same collection. The stylish Harper leather sectional sofa Posted: 03 Nov 2011 04:00 AM PDT The Harper sectional is one of the most stylish and chic pieces of furniture I've seen lately. This sectional sofa is a modern piece of furniture and it was handcrafted of maple. The frame also features a hand-applied coffee-bean finish. In order to make it even more elegant and also for a chic contrast of colors, the sofa has been upholstered using white leather. The shape of the sectional is rather simple. It's the diamond-tufted back that makes this piece stand out. As for the dimensions, the Harper sectional sofa measures 100.5″L x 129″W. the sofa is produced in the USA by Old Hickory Tannery. The company was founded more than 30 years ago and it's still a family business, owned and operated in Hickory, North Carolina. The company originally focused on fine leather upholstery but with time it started to be equally known for its fabric-covered creations. The Harper sofa is a fine example of leather furniture. With such a simple and yet such a gracious and stylish design, the Harper sofa would integrate very beautifully into a spacious living room, one with a modern décor but not necessarily. The sectional would look equally good in a more traditional home, as long as it looks good in the décor. You can buy this beautiful piece of furniture for $11,379.00. Combining Old with New by Simon Couchman Architects Posted: 03 Nov 2011 01:00 AM PDT Simon Couchman Architects have designed a gorgeous contemporary house in Australia. The Elsternwick House is a two-story building set to the rear of an existing cottage clad, in order to draw a line between old and new. Although it looks like two separate houses, in fact they represent only one unique structure. The exterior of the new part of the house hovers over the old roof separated by a band of glazing that wraps around it. The upper floor houses a loft-style children’s bedroom, fully enclosed balconies and access to a storage area within the existing roof space. On the first level you can find the master bedroom, laundry, an open plan kitchen, dining and living area and a deck that leads to a beautiful urban garden.
This modern residence is simple, thus focusing on the contrast that appears between the two buildings. Furthermore, throughout the entire place you can see white walls, an aspect that makes the rooms fell more airy. Also the attention is drawn by gorgeous light fixtures or interesting carpets. The Elternwick House is the kind of place that tries to take advantage of everything, the old, the new, and turns it into something beautiful and unexpected. All we can say is that it looks like a warm and welcoming place to land, don’t you agree? The Cyril Stool collection by UM Project Posted: 03 Nov 2011 12:20 AM PDT Any time you need an extra seat for your guests, a stool comes in very handy. Stools are one of the most versatile pieces of furniture. They can be used basically anywhere and with any occasion. They are not the most comfortable seat you could find but they are relatively small so they take little space and they are easy to hide underneath a table for example. The Cyril stools have a very interesting shape. They are basically very simple featuring a geometrical shape and this makes them sturdy and durable. Moreover, they are one of the few almost child-friendly stool designs and I would know that because a few years ago one my stools caused a little boy to break his leg. The Cyril stools are great as occasional seats, for times when there are too many guests in your home and it would be rude to make them sit on the ground or on their feet. As for the design, the stools have a timeless shape that would beautifully integrate in any type of décor, whether it's rustic, traditional, modern or contemporary. Moreover, the Cyril stools are also eco-friendly. They are mostly made of reclaimed materials and locally grown wood for the base. It features an American walnut base. The dimensions of the Cyril stools are 16.5″ x 10″ x 10″. You can buy them separately for $550.00 per piece.
