Eco Set of Four Dishes

Posted: 27 Oct 2011 11:00 AM PDT

We normally use porcelain dishes when we eat every day. Sometimes, when we go for a picnic or something and we use plastic dishes instead. But now there are other options, too, options that are more environmental-friendly. I think it is better to find such solutions and use biodegradable items instead of plastic or even porcelain that degrade after a very long time. This beautiful set of dishes is made of grain husks which is a very ecological material. The set contains four items: a large bowl, a small bowl, a dinner plate and a side plate. All the dishes look great and are lightweight. There is also a possibility to add cocoa nut grounded shell and obtain the darker shade of the bowls.

The dishes in this set are very beautiful, even stylish and that differentiates them from the other carton dishes that are normally used for barbecues and outdoors. These dishes are totally usable in the living room, as nobody can ever tell what they are made of. The material is very natural and the dishes are made in China. This is a family business and you can have the set shipped to you if you order it for $104.

Porcelain Leaf Dish

Posted: 27 Oct 2011 09:57 AM PDT

I admire people who work into handcraft business because they use their skills to produce something unique and personalized, something beautiful, almost like a work of art. Each object is different and the native gift is used for making nice things people around will use. This Porcelain Leaf Dish for example is amazing. It looks almost real and it is inspired from nature, yet used in your home. It looks just like a leaf, a Clerodendrum Leaf to be more precise. It is made of porcelain and after that it is glazed with a blue-grey shade. Actually I think the author used a real leaf and after that covered it with a thin layer of transparent porcelain.

The dish is very delicate and looks incredible, with all the detailed vines and nerves of a natural leaf and it is covered with a totally safe glaze. So you can use it for food, too, even if I would recommend using it for decorative purposes, since it is so nice-looking. As all handcrafted objects it would be better to clean it by hand and not use a dishwasher for cleaning it because it is a bit more fragile than industrial dishes. Any way, I like this dish very much and I think its price ($31) is only fair for the work invested in it.

VEJMON Side Table from IKEA

Posted: 27 Oct 2011 08:54 AM PDT

What I like about IKEA is the fact that they keep things simple. All the things that you can find there are very simple, yet nice-looking and also affordable. They are perfect for any home and will look great both in modern homes and in old-fashioned ones. Let’s take this VEJMON Side Table from IKEA for example. It is a normal, but beautiful side table that is very comfortable to use and handy, but also looks quite elegant. It has a top shelf and a middle shelf that can be used for storing magazines or other similar items when you keep it in the living room. The X on the base makes it pretty stable, so you don’t risk knocking it down when you don’t pay attention and walk past it.

The four legs have some metal tips so that they will not get damaged in time. The round shape of the side table makes it easy to place in any corner of the room and still look like its place was there from the very beginning. This table was designed by Ehlén Johansson and is made of birch veneer. It also has some clear acrylic lacquer on top of it and this makes it shine and look great. The cost is $99, but you can’t presently order it online, but directly in the store.

Matthew Perry’s Los Angeles residence is now on the market

Posted: 27 Oct 2011 07:06 AM PDT

We all know Matthew Perry from the famous TV series "Friends" and also from the recently-cancelled "Mr. Sunshine". Besides the fact that he's a famous actor, we don't really know so much about him, except maybe the fact that he seems to have a thing for modern and simple houses. Today we're going to take a look at his Los Angeles residence that he recently listed on the market for $5.695million. This is only one of his other many properties including a Hollywood Hills home, a Sunset Strip condo and a Malibu beach house.

Matthew Perry's Los Angeles residence

The Los Angeles residence is, as all his other homes, sleek, clean, simple and modern. Matthew Perry originally bought the home in 2008 for $4.475 million. It's a 34 acre property that includes, besides the actual house, a pool and a spa. The house was originally built in 1955 but you would never guess that just by looking at it. The house underwent several serious renovations and it now looks like new.

The residence covers 4.100 square feet of living space and it features three bedrooms, a media room and a modern kitchen. Since it located in such a beautiful area, it was impossible not to have glass walls that would allow panoramic views of Los Angeles. It's simple, modern, chic and elegant and it also has a rich history.{found on realtor}

How to prepare your home for winter

Posted: 27 Oct 2011 06:02 AM PDT

If winter is here, can the preparation to face the season be far behind? It is time to prepare your home for winter. Here are a good number of tips that could be of great use in this direction.

How to prepare your home for winter

Insulation: Adequate Insulation does not let your room temperature to go out. Adding a new layer of insulation to the attic is a must.

State Of Furnace: An annual checkup by a professional is a must. Cleaning of ducts and replacing the filters on monthly basis let your furnace work smoothly. A programmable thermostat is better option than the traditional one. In case of a hot water radiator system, pass out the water by opening the valves a little and close when water appears.

Fireplace: Capping the top of the chimney prevents birds, rats or squirrels to enter. Clean the chimney and ensure that the damper is working properly. Chopped firewood should be stocked in a dry place. If the mortar is old or cracked, it needs to be replaced at once.

Checking the exteriors: Weather stripping around your doors and windows is to be checked and, if needed, they are to be replaced. Inspect any crack around any pipe or electrical fittings in an inward or outward go on the wall. They are to be sealed religiously. In case your house has got old glass windows, it's high time to consider a replacement of those with the insulated glass windows and doors.

Roof: Any damaged shingles play havoc during winter months. Hence, roof inspection becomes an integral part. In the event of damaged or missing shingles, they are to be replaced.

Gutters: Blocked gutters can cause flooding of basement at the time of melting of snow. Hence, it should be cleaned.

Equipments: Weather specific equipments are to be kept in a ready- to-use manner. Snow blowers are to be tuned. Ice choppers and ice bag are to be kept ready.

Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Carbon monoxide detectors should be near your furnace or water heater. It is to be checked whether smoke or carbon monoxide detectors are in running condition.

Freezing Pipe: If you are on a vacation during winter, leave the heat on to avoid pipe cracks due to freezing.

Outdoors: Sensitive potted plants to be shifted under a shade, to save them from freezing temperatures. Trim the trees outside.{pics from here}

The cozy Curves Button Back Slipper Chair

Posted: 27 Oct 2011 05:07 AM PDT

This cute-looking chair is a very odd combination of styles. It seems to be a mixture between rustic, traditional and even antique elements but with a modern twist. The Curves Button Back Slipper Chair is available is three colors: chocolate, coffee and spring green. IT was made with a kiln-dried hardwood frame so it’s sturdy, strong and durable and you’ll be able to enjoy it for many years to come. In spite of the mixture of styles, the chair has a very simple design. It’s this aspect that also makes it a very versatile piece of furniture that could be successfully included in living rooms, kitchen,s dining rooms, bedrooms, offices, reading corners, covered porches or terraces and basically any other space that needs a chair.

Curves Button Back Slipper Chair

The dimensions of the Curves Button Back Slipper Chair are 25.5W x 27.5D x 31H inches so it’s a medium-sized piece, easy to integrate just about anywhere. Moreover, the shape is very friendly and now, that I think about it, it would be a great choice for the kids’ room. It would have been better if there were more bright colors available but let’s keep in mind that this was a chair designed for living rooms and other public spaces.

This simple chair is also a very comfortable piece, another reason why it’s so attractive. I would envisage this chair in a living room where it would look great near a wooden coffee table and in a cozy and yet stylish décor. You can now purchase this cute chair for the special price of $149.98.

A simple and beautiful Japanese house

Posted: 27 Oct 2011 04:00 AM PDT

When you see the House of Ujna for the first time, you have the impression of finding yourself in front of a miniature house. Located in Hiroshima,Japan, this building is the image of the typical Japanese simplicity, with a normal pitched roof.  The same material used for the roof also covers the exterior wall, providing privacy in a crowded area, ensuring the intimacy we all feel the need to have.

Natural lighting is essential and closely linked to the roof, the open space in the house being opposite the exclusive view and following the same pattern of privacy. There are not only windows for lighting, but also windows for ventilation; the use of wood offers that cozy feeling that we all yearn for, the warm tones provide the impression of a wider space, a pleasant atmosphere, simple and modern at the same time.

The furniture in the kitchen for example is simple and modern, in the same tone with the rest of the house and this natural aspect makes you feel good and want to spend time here. What Maker succeeded to do was to build a very nice house using the space as well as possible, in order to feel comfortable and at ease given the crowded area. A simple and beautiful home provides everything you could require from a house.{found on archdaily and designed by Maker}

Analyzing the shape and the design, we realize that this is a very simple chair that doesn't really stand out.Still, sometimes this could be an advantage. In this case, for example, with the simplicity also comes versatility. The Shine armchair is a very functional item, also very comfortable and because of its simple design it can be successfully integrated in a variety of different spaces.

For example it would be a great addition to the dining room. Unlike many other dining chairs, this one is actually comfortable and it would allow you to enjoy a pleasant dinner with your family. The Shine armchair can also be used in the home office as it would be great for the desk. You can also use it in the library or in the reading corner, if you have one. The chair is available with either leather or fabric covers. So despite its shy look, this chair manages to shine on other levels, like versatility and functionality. Don't be quick to judge it just by its looks. Give it a chance and see how comfortable this chair really is.

Brad Pitt has listed his Malibu beach house for $13.75 million

Posted: 27 Oct 2011 02:42 AM PDT

In case you were wondering what our celebrities are up to, you’ll be surprised to find out that Brad Pitt decided to give up his Malibu beach house. The property was listed for $13.75 million. We now have pictures of the property we can share. This beauty is a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom home located on the Encinal Bluffs facing Point Mugu State Park on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. It’s a dream home for most of us and it seems odd that someone would decide to give up something like this.

Now it’s time for this glamorous house to find a new owner. The residence covers a surface of 4.088 square feet. It incorporates a Mid-Century main volume that has been recently renovated. This part features a modern stainless steel kitchen with top of the line appliances, bamboo flooring and glass walls that provide panoramic and spectacular ocean views.

Two of the four bedrooms are currently being used as offices but this is just temporarily and can be changed. The property also includes a private beach, 3 fireplaces, a tennis court and, of course, security system. And just in case that’s not enough for some of you, the property also has Planning and Coastal approval for an additional storey designed by Chris Serenson. You have to admit that this is a s spectacular property and it would still be if the owner wasn’t Brad Pitt.{found on realtor}
