Wood Grain Bath Rug

Posted: 25 Oct 2011 08:14 AM PDT

When I was a little girl I used to spend a lot of time at my grandparents who lived near the woods. Every once in a while my grandpa would cut a tree and chop it until it was perfect for the fireplace. I was simply fascinated by all the circles inside the tree trunk and I asked my grandpa what they were. I found out that they marked the number of years in the tree’ s age. It seemed so cool! I counted the age of so many trees since then, but I still like the pattern made by all those concentric circles so different in shade and intensity. This Wood Grain Bath Rug is a very well done replica of this pattern and proves to have a great design.

The rug is perfect for the bathroom because it is made of polyester and this material is very good for wet places, as it dries rapidly and does not catch mold easily. Besides, the rug has a latex backing which has anti-slip and anti-skid qualities. This way you will be perfectly safe in the bathroom, even when it is damp. But you cannot use bleachers or very strong detergents, but you can wash it in the washing machine. You can buy it now for $19.99.

Tropical Paradise Residence by SPASM Design

Posted: 25 Oct 2011 06:19 AM PDT

Architects from SPASM Design have created an inspiring, contemporary house in Khadakvasla, near Pune, India: on the leeward side of the Western Ghats. This amazing residence is a tropical paradise, a home that blurs the lines between shelter and nature, blue skies above and water below.

The stunning house takes advantage of a lush tropical environment with a design that is open to its beauty. Arranged in a “u” shaped form, the home is focused on a central veranda with a pool that snakes along its walkways. The Khadakvasla House is lined and accented with dark timber lattice that stretches above the walkways of the veranda.

The private areas of the house are located on one side, while the public parts for entertainment are located on the opposite side. Both open up to the veranda to share the pool and a central living room that can be closed off in heavy weather. Moreover it has huge floor to ceiling windows that flood the house with natural light and offer you superb views. It also features modern furnishings that complete the exterior by giving it a little more flavor.

The Khadakvasla House is an unique home that has a lot to offer. It is a residence that brings the outdoors inside with the help of glass…a real work of art.

The “Bali Ocean” sofa

Posted: 25 Oct 2011 05:31 AM PDT

The first thing you notice about this sofa is probably the name. Called "Bali Ocean", this piece reminds us of the clear waters that we were able to enjoy, either when we were visiting that area or in pictures. Nevertheless, it's easy to see what it was called like that. The Bali Ocean sofa was designed and created by Old Hickory Tannery, a company that was founded more than 30 years ago and it's still a family business.

The sofa features a hardwood frame, durable and strong, and chrome-finished legs. It's a simple piece, with a simple and comfortable design, a reason why it's also very versatile. It's the type of sofa that would look good in both traditional, rustic, modern and contemporary homes.

The dimensions of this cozy sofa are 85″L x 36″D x 38″T with 74″L x 22″D x 18″T seat and 24″T arms. Even though Old Hickory Tannery was originally focused on fine leather upholstery, now the company is equally known for its fabric-covered pieces. It offers a wide range of products, reflecting all kinds of styles. The upholstery is cut and sewn entirely by hand and this is something available for all their products. All springs are hand-tied to the frame and surrounding springs at eight points for lasting comfort and stability. The "Bali Ocean" sofa is no exception. You can buy this beautiful piece of furniture for $4,899.00.

As you've probably noticed, fireplaces don't look like they used to anymore. There have been some remarkable changed in terms of dimensions, designs and shapes. The modern fireplaces don't use wood anymore and they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. One of the most interesting creations in this domain in my opinion is this steel torch/fireplace that has an unusual look.

Napoleon Wall Mounted Outdoor

This is an ultra modern fireplace featuring a slim, torch flame design and it can be mounted on the wall. It comes complete with decorative glass embers and no venting is required. It's definitely an interesting piece. The fireplace is made of durable powder coated stainless steel and porcelain, materials ready to stand up to the toughest conditions. Also because of the materials used, this fireplace is great for both indoor and outdoor areas.

It also features built-in GFI electrical circuit breaker that allows easy outdoor installation. Porcelain reflective radiant panels are standard. Also, the full stainless steel front and mounting cabinets are included. You can also choose optional accent lights for a special mood. This is definitely an interesting idea for a fireplace. It would look great in a modern or contemporary house and it would also be a great idea for renovations. It will definitely spice up the atmosphere.available for $2024.

Yarra Lane, the Place for your Wishes

Posted: 25 Oct 2011 01:05 AM PDT

Yarra Lane is the work of the Hassell architects, the team that won a 2011 Melbourne Design Award for the result of its work, the precinct and the three new dining venues located in Melbourne, Australia: Mo Oho Noodle, Outpost Dinning Room and Deba Sushi Bar. From the very beginning, the project intended to be characterized by a diverse mix of individual shops – a village high street that encouraged street activation and vibrancy.

The result is the unique identity for the precinct and each of the three new restaurants. All these three instances have shop fronts designed in order to reflect the nature of the dining character. Mo Pho Noodle was designed to respond to the chef’s Asian culinary style, with elements of a hawker’s bazaar with different regional influences on food. The place provides not only a dining experience, but also a life philosophy.

Outpost Dining Room is a real celebration of food, starting from the chef and the owner’s desire of serving fresh ingredients in a simple way, with simple aesthetic and a restaurant offering the most authentic home-style dishes, a common but pleasant experience. The details express another philosophy, which says “nothing to hide”.

Deba Sushi Bar is, as the name suggests it, a sushi bar at the entry of Yarra Lane, a quiet and contemplative space designed for strength and precision, as the Japanese carving knife. It is an expression of intricacy, intimacy and beautiful crafted objects. Each of the three places has its own philosophy, its own style and charm that makes you feel at ease.

Contemporary Atlantic Ocean-side Residence by SAOTA

Posted: 25 Oct 2011 12:20 AM PDT

One of the most luxurious and opulent things one can own is a home close to the ocean. This beautiful property is one of them. The home sits on the Atlantic shore overlooking the expansive ocean. It's yet another one of Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects' (SAOTA) creations and it's one of the most impressive projects that the Cape Town-based studio has developed.

Villa Sow House is a two-storey contemporary residence and it's situated on a cliff-top in Dakar, Senegal. As you can see for yourselves, the first impression is very striking. The exterior architecture is contemporary featuring sleek and luxurious finishes and details. Also among the exterior features, there's an incredibly large swimming pool with a terrace/garden-like area. It's a miniature ocean right there. The artificial grass, palm trees and boulder complete the image.

As for the interior, all the rooms are very spacious. There's a vast main living area that offers both privacy and entertainment. From there you can access a balcony overlooking the swimming pool terrace and offering beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surroundings.

The kitchen is stylish and spacious and so are the rest of the rooms. This is a very inspiring home. It's a unique property and it would be hard to replicate something like this, not just because of the dimensions but also because of the specific style.

So if you're having problems with space, here's a very cute and ingenious bookcase design that might help. This bi-level rotating bookcase reminds me of those rotating panels with sunglasses and all sorts of little accessories you see in stores.

The bookcase rotated 360 degrees and provides easy access to all the books stored in there. It's a very functional and ingenious solution. It would be a great choice for those who like to read before going to sleep. You can place this little bookcase by the bed and get your favorite book without even having to get out of bed.

This rotating bookcase is also very practical as it can hold up twice as many books as traditional bookshelves having the same dimensions. The piece features two 11″-tall circular shelves that accommodate paperback novels or unabridged dictionaries. Each shelf has eight separate quadrants that help you keep your books organized. It's a very compact piece that takes little space and yet it's so functional. The bookcases measures only 27″ H x 23 3/4″ Diam. (52 lbs.) and it's made of birch veneer with a walnut finish.
