Two bedroom residence by Skiles Architect

Posted: 02 Oct 2011 08:06 AM PDT

Located in Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA, the Allen Residence was designed and built by Skiles Architect with the help of consultants Gary Kahanak, Home Energy Consultants (Energy Star 5+ certification). It sits on a 1,358 sqf conditioned space, the under roof total space being of 2,596 sqf. The house was completed in 2011.

One of the owners of this house is a Professor and Director of Graduate Studies for Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences. This house is a two-bedroom residence described as "sustainable modern" by its owners. It was built using environmentally aware construction methods, materials and passive solar design. The house features two simple shed roofs at opposite slopes and the result is a wing-like structure that distinguishes itself from the surrounding ranch homes from that area.

The owners wanted to have a sustainable and energy-efficient home. Their wish has come true. The south-facing façade of the house provides passive solar heating. Also, it features a geothermal heat pump with radiant concrete floors, SIP roof panels and a generous screen porch to block the west sun. The large windows let the natural light in. On the exterior, the house uses minimal fiber cement board, galvalume and cedar slates with potential for reuse. The house also has an extension featuring a covered garage. It's a small but very warm and inviting residence.

MOD’s Design Studio in Singapore

Posted: 02 Oct 2011 02:06 AM PDT

Today we would like to present you an interesting office design by Ministry of Design. The space is in fact their own design studio, located at the confluence of Singapore’s Chinatown area and the CBD. Set on a single floor and inhabitating 6 converted shop house units, this space is a statement of innovation and creativity.

The architects wanted to create an open office where people can communicate and the pressure of hierarchy doesn’t exist. The design resembles a barcode, a series of mixed programs are positioned along some “catwalks” and range from gallery space, meeting space, open plan desks, hot desk discussion zones to a library.

Moreover their work areas are black and white, in order to create a white canvas/blackboard effect that will leave everyone express their creativity freely. On the other hand the library is an unfinished timber which provides a more relaxed environment as a counter point to the rest of the space. As you can see their work is wonderful, has an essential concept and a typological relevance.

MOD’s design studio was created on the same principles that govern its approach to design. The space is unique, beautiful and a great environment to work in.

Elegant and Practical ISALA by IKEA

Posted: 01 Oct 2011 12:49 PM PDT

I am one of the persons who remained charmed by Sweden and all the Swedish things. Since the moment I have visited this country I remained impressed by many things like the climate, the landscape and the people. Although their climate is not so welcoming and warm I just adore it. The summer nights are gorgeous! The rocky land that combines with the beauty of the North Sea and the wonderful people make you fall in love with this piece of heaven.

As Swedish people love the quality and practicality this ISALA coffee table cannot be an exception of these things. IKEA, the famous Swedish brand designed this elegant and practical coffee table that seems to be inspired by the early Swedish furniture style. Its round shape, thick legs and the presence of a drawer make it perfect for any modern or classic interior. It is made of plywood and fiberboard and solid pine and beech. This combination of materials makes of it a resistant and elegant piece of furniture that everybody would appreciate it.

For $199, 00 ISALA can be yours and you can enjoy of its elegant presence and practical design! Imagine how stylish your living room will look and the wonderful and peaceful atmosphere it will create while you enjoy a nice cup of coffee with your friends!
