Rustic doesn't always mean old and ugly. In some cases it's a combination of traditional and vintage elements with a simple and modern-looking design. Beautifully restored Dunkeld farmhouse Posted: 09 Sep 2011 02:38 AM PDT This beautiful restored house currently belongs to Linda Notelovitz Goodall and Miles Goodall. The couple is the head of a commercial-production company in South Africa. Few people are as imaginative and creative as these two and nothing shows it better than their own home, a true royal place. The couple moved there with their daughter Sophia who is now ten-years-old. Also, they brough with them the family dogs, including Irish wolfhounds and tiny yorkie. As you might have imagined, this is not a new house. The couple bought this Dunkeld farmhouse that dates back to 1907 and decided to restore it. They bought the property in 2004 and in just one year the place was renovated and ready to receive its new owners. Even though they are a very creative couple, they still needed the help of an expert, so they collaborated with heritage architect Rocco Bosman. Together they turned the house into a beautiful French-style elegant home.
Several changed had to be made to the structure of the house. For example, the barn was turned into a studio, guest suite, staff cottage and their company’s offices. This way the working spaces are separated from the private areas. The lower level of the house includes a large kitchen and a dining conservatory with beautiful furniture and an elegant décor. Upstairs there’s Sophia’s bedroom, a colorful and fun room with multicolored carpets, a rocking horse and beaded curtains. In contrast, the couple’s bedroom is very elegant, stylish, luxurious and calm.{found on houseandleisure} Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to Beautifully restored Dunkeld farmhouse |
The new Mochen Office by Mochen Architects & Engineers Posted: 09 Sep 2011 12:17 AM PDT One the Beijing Institute of TV Technology, this 1980's office building is now the new location of the Mochen office. The building was redesigned and transformed by Mochen Architects & Engineers in 2005. Located in Beijing, China, on Tong Linge Road, south of Beijing Xicheng District, between Chang'an Street and the Xuanwumen West Street, this building sits on a 3396 sqm area. The surrounding buildings are a chaotic mix of multi-storey residential buildings that date back to the 60s and 70s, high-rise residential apartments built in the late nineties, a large government agency, a church and a vegetable market. You can imagine how different all the styles are and how they look when combined. However, these graduate structures are a part of history and they have been accepted by the locals.
So in the process of renovation, the architects had to be careful not to destroy the original elements and to treat the building like an important section of history. The office is separated by the urban space by a large courtyard that is a sort of transitional space. The building is a combination of traditional and modern elements, but the predominant style is minimalism, and this applies to the interior space as well. The building is still an important part of the Chinese history and there are several elements that have been preserved and that can sustain this affirmation.{found on archdaily} Subscribe to Homedit's Feed to get constant updates of our Awesome Posts!© Homedit- Daily interior design ideas ! | Permalink to The new Mochen Office by Mochen Architects & Engineers |
Artistic three-tier “Castle” Fountain Posted: 08 Sep 2011 11:40 PM PDT Fountains are a great decorative piece for the outdoors in case you have a big house or majestic mansion. Fountains have a very distinguished look and they tend to transmit their sophistication to the surroundings, this including the house. This particular fountain has a very beautiful handcrafted granite finish that perfectly duplicates the granite stone. This is probably the most appreciated benefit from using manmade materials. They have the amazing ability to replicate a variety of natural materials at a significantly lower price. Moreover, they weight up to one fourth the weight of cement of stone and this makes them easy to move around in case the décor changes. Last, but not least, these materials are not susceptible to mold, mildew, or other problems common to natural materials. The "Castle" fountain has a very beautiful antique look that makes it seem sophisticated but also chic. At the base of the fountain there are also four planters measuring 59″Dia. x 62″T. They are perfect for small plants and this details helps the fountain better integrate in places like gardens and open areas. The "Castle" fountain is available at a price of $1,749.90 and professional installation is recommended, due to its size. It's a very beautiful decorative item, suited for large gardens where they would beautifully disappear into the natural décor. The Yallingup Residence in Western Australia Posted: 08 Sep 2011 10:48 PM PDT Yallingup Residence is one of the latest projects of Wright Feldhusen Architects. Located in Yallingup, as its name suggests, in the South West corner of Western Australia, this dream house is surrounded by an extensive landscaped garden. Set on a green coastal spot and offering some spectacular views, this wonderful house is a response to a request for a peaceful, rural, holiday retreat. Combining stone, metal, wood and glass, the Yallingup Residence was created for the enjoyment and relaxation of its inhabitants.
Intended to house the client and his family, the internal layout was designed to be open and airy. As you can see, it has an open floor plan living and dining area with kitchen, and is located in a large glassed pavilion, making the most of the superb views. Moreover the cantilevered roof and the big balcony shelter the house from the intensive sunshine, while the glass walls let in a lot of natural light. A series of external living areas are placed under the large roof overhang. Underneath, a stone bedroom suite is nestled in the hill, next to more bedrooms. Furthermore, as the client was in steel fabrication industry, it seemed natural to use steel in the building’s construction base. He’s a famous actor and he’s also the happy new owner of a new home in Hollywood Hills. He recently bought a Mid-Century Modern with a cozy and inviting look, just what a home should be like. It’s a vintage steel and glass structure with a beautiful architecture and a very clearly defined structure.
The house features 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, so it’s a relatively small house, suited for a small family or a couple. The whole house measures 4000 sq feet. Besides the bedrooms and bathrooms, there’s also a media room with a screen that rolls up to reveal a picture window framing a view of Los Angeles. So there have been made some changes to turn this place into a more modern and fun place. Moreover, the house is filled with top of the line appliances.
